Baca -- Erlinda Baca passed away at the age of 42 on Sunday, May 20, 2001. Mrs. Baca was preceded in death by her loving husband of 27 years, Lawrence Baca; her grandson, Lawrence Baca III; and her mother Antonia Vigil. Erlinda is survived by her loving five children; two daughters, Maryann Baca and husband, Michael Sosa and Rose Baca and husband, Vance Chino; three sons, Lawrence Baca, Jr. and fiancČe Danielle, Maragrito Baca and Seymour Baca; five wonderful grandchildren who she loved very much, Gabriel Baca, Martin Chino, Marisol Sosa, Michael Chino, and Angel Baca; five brothers; one sister; and many nieces and nephews. Chavez -- Alice P. Chavez, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1941, passed away Friday, May 18, 2001, at a local hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Seledon N. Chavez; parents, Nicolas and Rumaldita Pacheco; and brothers, Florenio and Juan Pacheco. She is survived by her daughter, Louisa and husband, Rev. Jesus G. Bermudez of Albuquerque; sisters, Beatrice and husband, Florentino Lopez of Bosque, NM, Libby Pacheco of Albuquerque, Lily and husband, Jerry Jaramillo of Lancaster, CA and Betty Barela of Belen; brother, Gilly B. Pacheco of Albuquerque; and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church and an active member of United Methodist Women. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church, 700 Granite NW, with Rev. Jesus Bermudez officiating. Padilla -- Mr. Gilbert R. Padilla, 62, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Santa Rosa was born on April 13, 1939 and went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2001. Mr. Padilla is survived by his beloved wife of forty-two years, Cecilia; his adoring son, Rick Padilla and wife, Patty; three daughters, Vicky Serrano and husband, Orlando, Angel Sandoval and boyfriend, Lawrence Garcia and Linda Lopez and husband, Richard; his parents, Alfonso and Nora Padilla; his ten brothers and sisters, Floyd Padilla and wife, Helen, Orlando Padillla, Victor Padilla and wife, Margaret, Larry Padilla and wife, Barbara; Rayne Padilla and wife, Linda, Flora Garcia and husband, Raul, Agneda Casaus and husband, Gilbert, Vera Estrada and husband, David, Marie Villanueva and husband, Joe and Judy Myklack and husband, Bob; his ten grandchildren, Paige Fisher Padilla, Mario and Jessica, Angelo, Janice and Cecilia Serrano, Estevan and Alexa Sandoval, Tiana, Ricardo and Andre Lopez; two great-grandchildren, Chantel and Victoria Serrano; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Padilla was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Enrique Padillla. Mr. Padilla was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather and he left this earth peacefully with his loving family all around him, as he had wished. Mr. Padilla was a member of the Catholic Church and participated in several prayer groups. He was the prayer group leader, Eucharist Minister and created the"Feeding the Poor" program at Holy Family Catholic Church. He sharded his love of the Lord through music, and serving others. Gilbert was an outstanding athlete. During his years at Santa Rosa High School (1954-1958), he earned the titles of New Mexico State track star, state champion football and basketball player and state champion golden gloves boxer. In later years he loved to golf with his son, nephews, brothers, brothers-in-law and many friends. Gilbert was the owner of Valle Del Sol Construction. Through his kind demeanor and undying dedication to his family he will long be remembered and greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Visitation will be Monday evening in the Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Santos Abeyta. Final visitation will be Tuesday afternoon in the Church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. by Father Manuel Viera. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Pallbearers will be George Chavez Jr., Richard Lopez, Orlando Serrano, Rayne Padilla, Larry Padilla and Lawrence Garcia. Honorary Pallbearers will be all his grandchildren. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW in charge of arrangements.

Geck -- Col. Charles Geck, USA (Ret.), 86, peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by his children on Wednesday, May 16, 2001. He is survived by his sons, Randolph F. Geck and wife, Carol; Howard C. Geck; daughter, Florence R. Geck; granddaughter, Alicia; brother, Harry Geck; and his former wife, Florence V. Krick-Jimenez. He was preceded in death by his parents Carlos Conrad and Romana Benavides Geck; wife, Nettie Faye Geck; sisters, Margie Apodaca, Mary Stella Chavez, and Tiela Lopez; and great uncle, Albert Benavides. Charles was born on March 29, 1915 in La Mesa, NM. He lived most of his dynamic life in New Mexico, joining the US Navy in 1936 and the US Army in 1942 to serve his country in both WWII and the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor and the coveted Combat Infantryman Badge, both earned in battle. Charles returned to Albuquerque to successfully complete careers in the Department of Defense Civil Service and the New Mexico Army National Guard, retiring at the rank of Colonel. During this time, he was active in the Elk's Lodge and completed his Bachelor's Degree in Business from the University of Albuquerque and a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of New Mexico. He continued to serve his fellow New Mexicans as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of New Mexico and advisor for the Social Security Commission, and as a longtime volunteer for the Service Core of Retired Executives (SCORE) and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). He was also a member of the Kirtland Air Force Base Officer's Club. Charles was deeply involved with, supported by, and owed much gratitude to the Veteran's Administration Hospital, including the Cancer Support Group, Mental Health, and the 6th Floor"Chemo Club." Rosary will be recited Sunday, May 20, 2001, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Monday, May 21, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at Kirtland Air Force Base, Wyoming Blvd. East Chapel (please refer to this announcement to the Gate Guards for admission). Romero -- Michael M. Romero Esq. 43, was called home on May 16, 2001. "Big Mike" was a practicing attorney in Las Cruces, NM for 15 years and an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and camping. His family is his source of joy and love and this was evident in all that he had accomplished in his short life. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Redolfo Romero, paternal grandparents, Marcos A. and Angelica M. Romero and maternal grandfather, Ignacio Ramirez. He is survived by his mother, Annie Romero of Corrales; his children, Robert Dylan and Micah Lee Romero of Highland Park, CO; two brothers, Greg Romero of Corrales, Thomas Romero and wife Bonnie of Albuquerque; one sister, Kathryn A. Romero-Chavez and husband, Andy of Albuquerque; three nephews, Rudy and Jesse Chavez and Victor Romero all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his companion, Oralia Miranda of Las Cruces, Ron Garcia of Corrales, and maternal grandmother Mela Ramirez of Albuquerque. Also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins from Albuquerque to California to Las Cruces.
