Obituary for Padilla

Mr. Gilbert R. Padilla, 62, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Santa Rosa was born on April 13, 1939 and went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2001. Mr. Padilla is survived by his beloved wife of forty-two years, Cecilia; his adoring son, Rick Padilla and wife, Patty; three daughters, Vicky Serrano and husband, Orlando, Angel Sandoval and boyfriend, Lawrence Garcia and Linda Lopez and husband, Richard; his parents, Alfonso and Nora Padilla; his ten brothers and sisters, Floyd Padilla and wife, Helen, Orlando Padillla, Victor Padilla and wife, Margaret, Larry Padilla and wife, Barbara; Rayne Padilla and wife, Linda, Flora Garcia and husband, Raul, Agneda Casaus and husband, Gilbert, Vera Estrada and husband, David, Marie Villanueva and husband, Joe and Judy Myklack and husband, Bob; his ten grandchildren, Paige Fisher Padilla, Mario and Jessica, Angelo, Janice and Cecilia Serrano, Estevan and Alexa Sandoval, Tiana, Ricardo and Andre Lopez; two great-grandchildren, Chantel and Victoria Serrano; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Padilla was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Enrique Padillla. Mr. Padilla was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather and he left this earth peacefully with his loving family all around him, as he had wished. Mr. Padilla was a member of the Catholic Church and participated in several prayer groups. He was the prayer group leader, Eucharist Minister and created the"Feeding the Poor" program at Holy Family Catholic Church. He sharded his love of the Lord through music, and serving others. Gilbert was an outstanding athlete. During his years at Santa Rosa High School (1954-1958), he earned the titles of New Mexico State track star, state champion football and basketball player and state champion golden gloves boxer. In later years he loved to golf with his son, nephews, brothers, brothers-in-law and many friends. Gilbert was the owner of Valle Del Sol Construction. Through his kind demeanor and undying dedication to his family he will long be remembered and greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Visitation will be Monday evening in the Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Santos Abeyta. Final visitation will be Tuesday afternoon in the Church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. by Father Manuel Viera. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Pallbearers will be George Chavez Jr., Richard Lopez, Orlando Serrano, Rayne Padilla, Larry Padilla and Lawrence Garcia. Honorary Pallbearers will be all his grandchildren. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW in charge of arrangements.
