Besse -- Johann"Hans" W. Besse, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on May 16, 2001, on his 43rd wedding anniversary. His devoted wife, Ursula Besse and only child, Barbara Besse-Brewer were there to surround him in love and comfort him in his final moments. He is further survived by his two grandsons, Cooper and Spencer Besse-Brewer; son-in-law, Matthew Besse-Brewer; sister, Elisabet Speck and niece, Karin Schaefer (both of Germany). Hans, born on September 30, 1931 in Gladbeck, Germany was the son of Johann Besse and Maria Schmelzer Besse. His strong will enabled him to fight his illnesses with hope, grace and dignity. His beautiful blue eyes, humor and loving spirit will be greatly missed. As a brother of the masons, his Memorial Service will be held in Mesa Lodge #68 located at 538 Dallas SE, on Monday, May 21, 2001 at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Johann Besse Memorial Fund c/o The American Lung Association, 216 Truman NE, 87108.

Brown -- Earl F. Brown, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, died on Wednesday, May 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen V. Brown of Albuquerque; daughter, Nancy Hayden and husband, Floyd of Sturgis, Michigan; grandchildren, Jonathan Hayden and wife, Candace of St. Joseph, MI, Matthew Hayden and wife, Kris of White Pigeon, MI, and William R. Gerhardstein of Sturgis, MI; and five great-grandchildren. Earl was chosen to be a part of the Henry Ford Trade School in Detroit, Michigan where he received his secondary education, an opportunity he was very proud to have had. Service will be held Monday, May 21, 2001, 2:00p.m. at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 7500 Paseo del Norte NE, with Deacon James Baca, officiating. Entombment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Cooper -- Mary Cooper, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2001. She was born August 4, 1912 in Pryor, Oklahoma and as a young child made the journey with her late parents, Oscar and Clara Mae Bassett, to homestead in Venus, NM, now known as Edgewood. Mary will be remembered as a loving, kind, and caring lady, more concerned for everyone else's well being than her own. The eldest of six children, she took on many family responsibilities, including caring for their widowed mother for many years. Throughout her life as long as she was able, she continued the role of caregiver. If she couldn't offer her home or her time, she used the telephone to check on loved ones that concerned her, including her two dear close brothers, Elmer and George Bassett, who both preceded her in death. Surviving are sisters, Linnie Malott of San Dimas, California, Eunice King of Amarillo, Texas; brother, Carl Bassett of Edgewood; sisters-in-law, Loyce Fullingim of Albuquerque and Iona Patton of Morgan Hill, California. Buster, her beloved husband of 66 years, preceded her in death three years prior, but in the same month and day, May 16, 1998. Their son, Ray preceded her in death on May 27, 2000. Surviving are daughters; Vivian and husband, Ron Ohnleiter of Albuquerque, Beverly and husband, Doug Davis of Ft. Worth, TX; and daughter-in-law, Janie Cooper of Albuquerque. She was a loving and devoted Grandmother to seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Mary was also Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She captured many hearts and was loved by everyone involved in her care. Many new wonderful people came into her life during her illness, and her daughters wish to express their gratitude for the loving care given Mary, and for the compassion and support shown to them during this difficult time. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2001, 1:30p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd N.E. with, Pastor George Morris, officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul N.E.

Fullam -- Lucille G. Fullam, 81, a long time resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2001. Lu was born December 12, 1919 the daughter of Frank and Gesualda Pierre Luzzi in Brooklyn, New York. She was a devoted member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Lu was preceded in death by her husband, Brandon A. Fullam, Sr. in 1993. She is survived by four children, Brandon A. Fullam, Jr. and wife, Ann of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Robert M. Fullam of Sandia Park, NM, Thomas P. Fullam and wife Geraldine of Rio Rancho, and Gregory L.Fullam of Rio Rancho, and three grandchildren. There will be visitation on Saturday, May 19, 2001 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, and Sunday, May 20, 2001 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary. Geck -- Col. Charles Geck, USA (Ret.), 86, peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by his children on Wednesday, May 16, 2001. He is survived by his sons, Randolph F. Geck and wife, Carol; Howard C. Geck; daughter, Florence R. Geck; granddaughter, Alicia; brother, Harry Geck; and his former wife, Florence V. Krick-Jimenez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos Conrad and Romana Benavides Geck; wife, Nettie Faye Geck; sisters, Margie Apodaca, Mary Stella Chavez, and Tiela Lopez; and great uncle, Albert Benavides. Charles was born on March 29, 1915 in La Mesa, NM. He lived most of his dynamic life in New Mexico, joining the US Navy in 1936 and the US Army in 1942 to serve his country in both WWII and the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor and the coveted Combat Infantryman Badge, both earned in battle. Charles returned to Albuquerque to successfully complete careers in the Department of Defense Civil Service and the New Mexico Army National Guard, retiring at the rank of Colonel. During this time, he was active in the Elk's Lodge and completed his Bachelor's Degree in Business from the University of Albuquerque and a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of New Mexico. He continued to serve his fellow New Mexicans as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of New Mexico and advisor for the Social Security Commission, and as a longtime volunteer for the Service Core of Retired Executives (SCORE) and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). He was also a member of the Kirtland Air Force Base Officer¯s Club. Charles was deeply involved with, supported by, and owed much gratitude to the Veteran's Administration Hospital, including the Cancer Support Group, Mental Health, and the 6th Floor ¯Chemo Club. Rosary will be recited Sunday, May 20, 2001, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Monday, May 21, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at Kirtland Air Force Base, Wyoming Blvd. East Chapel (please refer to this announcement to the Gate Guards for admission). Marrable -- Jean Evelyn Macmillan Marrable, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 14, 2001. She was born March 6, 1923 in El Dorado, AR, and she was the daughter of Alfred Macmillan and Vera Terry Macmillan. She had one sister, Alice Ann Macmillan DeRossitt who preceded her in death in 1989. Jean graduated from Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA from 1938-1941. She then attended Baylor University in Waco, TX (1941¯1942), as well as the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ (1943-1944) where she received her Liberal Arts degree. Jean married Walter Edwin Marrable of El Dorado, AR on September 7, 1947. In 1949 they settled in Albuquerque, NM. Jean had two daughters, Susie Lyn Marrable Haron and husband, Larry of Mesquite, TX and Mollie Jean Terry Marrable Yankie and husband, Wayne of Antioch, TN; one son, Walter Edwin Marrable Jr. and wife, Lynn of Denison, TX; ten grandchildren, James Lawrence Haron, Angela Price Haron, Walter Edwin Marrable III (Trey), James Castle Robinson Marrable, Lauren Jean Macmillan Marrable, Bethany Macmillan Yankie, Briana Franklin Yankie, Mariah McClain Yankie, Kaitlin Anderson Yankie and Summer Whitfield Yankie; a nephew, James P. DeRossit; and a niece, Alice Price DeRossitt. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in El Dorado, AR and First Baptist Church, First Methodist Church and Central United Methodist Church of Albuquerque, NM. She lived in the Vermont Manor Home since September 1994 where she had wonderful care from Angela Johnson and her staff. Services will be held Saturday, May 19th, 1:00 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church Chapel, 1615 Cooper NE, with Rev. Lawrence I. Haron and Dr. Charles Crutchfield officiating. Martinez -- Agneda"Gramita" Delgado Martinez, 104 years old, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2001, leaving five generations of her family to say goodbye. Gramita was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Sostenes and Emily Moore-Delgado and she was so fortunate to have lived in three centuries. Mrs. Martinez was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilberto and three of her children, Gilbert Jr., Robert and Emily. She is also survived by three living Children, Louie and wife, Lorraine, Carlos Hector and wife, Aurora and daughter, Mary A.Garza along with daughter-in-law, Lenore Martinez and son-in-law, Jim Bonney. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; half sisters, Pita Montoya and Marygrace Salas; and half brothers, Phil and Alberto Delgado. Agneda lived a wonderful full life and was known to all as"Gramita"¯ a name she loved. She played piano even after her 100th birthday and taught most of her grandchildren to play. Funeral Services for Mrs. Martinez will be held on Monday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Martinez, Jim D. Bonney, George Bonney, Carl Martinez, Bob Martinez Jr. and Randy Bonney. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Wells, David Garza, David Martinez, Don Delgado, Mark Martinez, Rick Miera and Floyd Buzzy Hursh. Visitation for Mrs. Martinez will be held on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Salazar & Sons Mortuary Chapel. Ness -- Richard Henry Ness, 80, passed away May 3, 2001, in Boise, ID. A Private Funeral Service was held on May 4, 2001 by his surviving children, Kevin Ness of Boise, ID, Laura Ness of Boise, ID, and Carla Ness Ranum of Bermunda. Richard (Dick) was born December 9, 1920 in Detroit, MI to Henry and Mildred Ness. He grew up in Chicago, with his beloved sister, Bonnie Mae, until he joined the Navy during WWII. As a Captain, Richard was stationed in both England and Scotland. Later he served in the Reserves. Richard received a BA in English Literature from the University of New Mexico and an MA in Literature from the University of Wisconsin. He married Mildred Dorothy Morrow of Albuquerque and fathered a son and two daughters. He was employed by APS for 30+ years, teaching English Literature, Composition, and History at Highland HS. Richard was genuinely an inspired teacher and earned the respect and adoration of both students and colleagues alike, many former students became lifetime friends. Most of all, he was a Renaissance man, placing his faith in human reason and art, Aristotle and Shakespeare. He lived a life balanced between thinking and action and he is deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, and friends. The following is an excerpt from Wallace Stevens' Sunday Morning, one of my father's favorite poems,"We live in an old chaos of the sun/ Or old dependency of day and night/ Or island solitude, unsponsored free/ Of that wide water, inescapable/ Deer walk upon our mountains, and the quail/ Whistle about us their spontaneous cries/ Sweet berries ripen in the wilderness/ and in the isolation of the sky/ At evening, casual flocks of pigeons make/ Ambiguous undulations as they sink/ Downward to darkness, on extended wings." Otero -- Mrs. Angelita T. Otero, 76, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family on May 17, 2001. Mrs. Otero is survived by three daughters, Dolores Candelaria, Margaret Otero and Charlotte Otero-Tafoya and husband Tom; one son, Joseph V. Otero; one sister Dolores Pena; two grandchildren, Tomas and Tatiana Tafoya; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vivian Otero; her parents, Sylvestre and Julianita Tafoya; a brother, Clory Tafoya; Sister in law, Ne Tafoya; brother in law, Manuel Pena and a son-in-law, Ismael Candelaria Jr. Mrs. Otero was a member of the Catholic Church, Eucharist Minister, Member of the Alter Society, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Otero -- Rumaldo (Rudy) Otero Jr., age 64, and a life long resident of New Mexico died Thursday, May 17, 2001 following an accident. Rudy is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Otero of Albuquerque; one son, Randall Otero and his wife, Monica of Albuquerque; one daughter, Sharon Minichiello and her husband, Wayne of Boulder, CO; his mother, Louisa Otero of Albuquerque; two sisters, Mela Perea of Los Lunas, and Lucy LaPort of CA. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Randi Nicole and Bradley Rey Otero, Alexandra, Michael, and Carly Minichiello. Mr. Otero was a member of the church of the risen Savior. He was a manager for Walgreen's for 21 years, and was also a Supervisor for the City of Albuquerque Parks & Recreation Community center division. Rudy devoted his life to his children, grandchildren and the children of Albuquerque. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, May 20, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at the Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Romero -- Michael M. Romero Esq. 43, was called home on May 16, 2001."Big Mike" was a practicing Attorney in Las Cruces, NM for 15 years and an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and camping. His family is his source of joy and love and this was evident in all that he had accomplished in his short life. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Redolfo Romero, paternal grandparents, Marcos A. and Angelica M. Romero and maternal grandfather, Ignacio Ramirez. He is survived by his mother, Annie Romero of Corrales; his children, Robert Dylan and Micah Lee Romero of Highland Park, CO; two brothers, Greg Romero of Corrales, Thomas Romero and wife Bonnie of Albuquerque; one sister, Kathryn A. Romero-Chavez and husband, Andy of Albuquerque; three nephews, Rudy and Jesse Chavez and Victor Romero all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his companion, Oralio Miranda of Las Cruces, Ron Garcia of Corrales, and maternal grandmother Mela Ramirez of Albuquerque. Also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins from Albuquerque to California to Las Cruces. Senior was preceded in death by his wife, Adela Advincula Senior; his sons, Eguardo and James; and his daughter, Victoria Ortiz. White -- Ruth Heishman White, 91, formerly of Vickery, OH and Sarasota, FL, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Mary. She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Coyne and husband, Walter, of Los Angeles, CA, Mary Jones and Doris Roycraft and husband, Gary, all of Albuquerque; sister, Lillian H. Hetrick and husband, Russell of Bellevue, OH; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter White; son, Keith; daughter, Patricia; son-in-law, Samuel Johns; parents, Seymour C. and Gettie Reed Heishman; sisters, Myrtle Martin, Edna Atwood, Ethel Deal; brothers, Henry, Glenn, Russell, and Robert. Mrs. White and her husband operated a farm in Vickery, OH from the time of their marriage in 1930 to 1957, when they retired to Sarasota, FL. They lived there until his death in 1966. She moved to Albuquerque in 1994. Mrs. White was an excellent seamstress and cook, 4-H Leader, Farm Bureau Member, longtime PTA member of Townsend School, and was employed at Rockwell Springs Trout Club in Clyde, OH. Services will be held Sunday, May 20, 2001, 6:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Bishop James Jeppson officiating. Interment will take place in Palms Memorial Park in Sarasota, FL. Williams -- Charles R. Williams, 86, a resident of Los Lunas passed away Thursday, May 17, 2001. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Albuquerque Moose Lodge. He retired from the AT & SF Railroad with over twenty years of dedicated service. He was a casual walker and always looked forward to his morning walks. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred R.Williams in 1996. He is survived by his three children, Larry A. and his wife, Mary Ann of Bartlett, IL; Teresa J. Lister and her husband, Kenny of Texas City, TX and Ronald L. and his wife Maureen of Los Lunas, NM.; his loving sister-in-law, Ruby Pucillo of Eugene, OR; one brother, Morris and his wife, Lois of Merritt Island, FL; one sister, Clarabell Hemp of OH; his loving and caring nephew, Charlie Bass of Littleton, CO; eight grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren. Private Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 21, at 2:00PM at Romero Funeral Home Chapel.
