Briggs -- Emile Thomas"Tom" Briggs, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Sunday, March 7, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of the family home; sons, Tom and wife, Diane of Las Vegas, NM, Tim, Jim and wife, Ginger, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Amanda, Alicia, Alexis, Shane, all of Las Vegas, NM and Wyatt of Albuquerque; and sisters, Anna Thornton and husband, Jack of Houston, TX, Edwina Becker of Glendive, MT and Shirley Lord of Ashford, CT. Tom was born on March 11, 1930 in Limestone, Maine. While growing up in Limestone, he found his love for the outdoors. In 1950, he joined the Air Force where he began pursuing his interest in photography. He married Sylvia Sirois on November 19, 1955. In 1959, the family moved to Albuquerque where he continued working for the civil service until retirement as a photographer in 1985. Upon retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife, family and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed sports, hunting, coaching Little League, fishing, and visiting with the many friends he met along the way. Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 11, 1999, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Deacon Al McLane officiating. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice. French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.

Greatbatch -- Harry Greatbatch, 82, born April 16, 1916, went home to the Lord on March 8, 1999. Harry retired in 1966 from the New York City Police Dept., 48th Precinct and moved from Croton Falls, NY in 1974 to Rio Rancho. He was a WWII Veteran, having served in the Army in the Aleutians. He was preceded in death by his wife, Letitia (Quinn) Greatbatch, February 2, 1996; and grandson, Tommy Campbell, September 14, 1989. He is survived by his daughter, Eileen and husband, Tom Campbell; granddaughter, Kelly Campbell and husband, Ron Schorr; great-grandchildren, Ryan Thomas Schorr, Alexis Schorr; son, Harry W. Greatbatch and wife, Marilyn; grandson, Harry W. Greatbatch Jr., Sean Greatbatch; great-granddaughters, Auzra Greatbatch, Frances Greatbatch; son, John Greatbatch and wife, Carolyn Rae; grandson, William Greatbatch; brothers, Edwin Greatbatch, Russell Purdy of New York and Harold Purdy of Arizona. Ore -- "Chris" Christopher Milton, 40, was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on March 5, 1999. He operated Chris's Upholstery Shop in Albuquerque since 1989. He was born on November 21, 1958 in Pullman, Washington. He was a graduate of Pocatello High School in Pocatello, Idaho, and the upholstery program at Idaho State University Technical-Vocational Institute. He loved doing upholstery and was enjoying upholstering some chairs the day he was struck. He is survived by his two children, Barry Christopher Ore and Kelly Jean Ore, and their mother, Lin Craft; his father and step-mother, Tom and Pat Lewis Ore; his mother and step-father, Lois and Joseph Thompson; his brother, Douglas Henry Ore; step-brothers, Scott Thompson and Les Thompson; step-sisters, Melanie Thompson, Kate Miller and Julie Miller; five nephews; four nieces; and his special friend and companion, Donna Diane Dean. He was a skilled craftsman and natural athlete. He especially enjoyed skiing and riding his bicycle. He was very kind-hearted, fun-loving, generous, and caring. He is greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service for Chris will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa Avenue NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 881-9626, at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, 1999.

Sanchez -- Julian (Pocho) Mr. Sanchez, a former resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, March 5, at Desert Hot Springs, California. Surviving are his wife, Eva and Ching-Gau; a brother, Tom and his wife, Irene; several nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be said Thursday, March 11, 6:15 p.m., at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming NE.

Losh -- Richard Losh, age 82, a resident of Denver, CO, born April 3, 1916 in Manhattan, KS, died Saturday, February 27, 1999. He is survived by two sons, Richard C. Losh Jr. of Denver, CO and Daniel S. Losh of San Antonio, TX; and a brother, Tom Losh of Las Vegas, NV. Mr. Losh was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Christner Losh who died in 1983. He graduated Classen High School in Oklahoma City, OK in 1933, obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Mexico in 1939 and Juris Doctor cum laude, Boston University in 1947. He was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in 1947 and had a private law practice from 1947 to 1974. He was also the Administrative Law Judge for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 1974 to 1984, and retired November 2, 1984. Mr. Losh served his country in WWII in the U.S. Marine Corps and in the Reserve from 1941 to 1948, U.S. Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General Corps from 1948 to 1964 and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church, Albuquerque, Board of Sessions (Elder) 1983 to 1985, and also attended Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Albuquerque. During his retirement, he pursued drama and played the role of judge in"Anatomy of a Murder" also a supporting role in Agatha Christie's"Ten Little Indians" when presented by Albuquerque Little Theater in the 1980's. Mr. Losh was a member of Sigma Chi, Tau Kappa Alpha, Theta Alpha Phi, Phi Delta Phi, State Bar of New Mexico, American Bar Association, Conference of Administrative Law Judges of the ABA, Scribes, National Association of Legal Writers, Professional Registered Parliamentarian in the National Association of Parliamentarians, B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #461, Albuquerque, and Past Commander of American Legion. Visitation will be held Monday, March 8, 1999, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 8, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. in Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd. SE, with Rev. Don Wales officiating. Newby -- Martha R. Newby, 91, a resident of the Albuquerque area since 1951, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999. She is survived by her grandson, Bob Ferguson and wife, Carolyn of Los Lunas; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Newby came from a large family in which she was one of 23 children. Numerous brothers and sisters still survive including her sister, Eva Tipton of Morongo Valley, CA. Mrs. Newby was preceded in death by her husband, E.A. Newby in 1983; and by her daughter, Hazel Francis; stepson, Roy Newby; and stepdaughter, Helen Newberry, all in 1987. Mrs. Newby was employed at Sandia National Laboratories for 15 years. Garrett -- 1943-1999 Kathleen"Kathy" Garrett, 55, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Marks and her husband, Kevin of Las Cruces; her sons, Tom Garrett and his companion, Donna of Jarales, and Patrick Garrett, also of Jarales; her grandchildren, Jordan and Jared Marks of Las Cruces, and John Mares of Jarales; and her brothers, Lenn McCorry and his wife, Joy of Los Lunas, Larry McCorry and wife, Mary of Alamogordo, and Tim McCorry and wife, Polly of Los Lunas. Services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 1999, 10:00 a.m., at Riverside Funeral Home Chapel with Mike McHugh officiating. Burial will follow in Terrace Grove Cemetery. Herry -- Cale C. Herry, Major (Ret), USAF, 69, an Albuquerque resident since 1957, died Friday, February 26, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ann Herry of the family home; daughter, Deborah Lynn Chavez and husband, Tom, of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Cynthia and Carla Chavez, both of Albuquerque; brother, Don F. Herry of Lyndonville, NY; and several nieces and nephews in New York. He served in the USAF as a pilot and completed 100 combat missions in Korea flying F-84 and F-86 aircraft. During the Vietnam conflict, he flew 146 missions in the RB57 aircraft. After 20 years service, Mr. Herry retired from the Air Force at the rank of Major in 1969 at Kirtland AFB. Major Herry earned his masters degree in Public Administration at the University of New Mexico. He worked for the State of New Mexico Water Quality Department in Santa Fe and was later Director of Public Utilities for the State of Alaska in Anchorage. After returning to New Mexico, he enjoyed a retirement of hunting and fishing in the company of many of his fellow military retirees in Central New Mexico. His hobbies included travel, photography and his lifelong love of flying. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Santa Fe National Cemetery with Chaplain Colonel Lemuel Boyles, USAF (Ret), officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Kirtland AFB Honor Guard. Lonz -- Thomas F. Lonz, 77, a resident of Albuquerque for 51 years, passed away Friday evening, February 26, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Maureen O'Rourke Lonz, of Albuquerque; sons, Steve, Thomas J. and wife, Gina and Gary, all of Albuquerque; daughters, Loretta Lonz of Lafayette, IN and Christine Gibson and husband, Alan of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Michelle, Timothy, and Patrick Lonz, and Craig, Christopher, Cameron and Elizabeth Gibson; several in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Michael. Mr. Lonz was born September 4, 1921, to Clarence A. and Loretto C. Lonz and raised in Kokomo, IN. He was the first person to graduate from Purdue University in full military uniform. He also attended a specialized school of Military Intelligence at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Mr. Lonz did graduate work at Catholic University and Johns Hopkins University. In World War II, he served as an interpreter for the 97th Infantry Division in Europe and as an instructor during the Pacific Campaign and the American occupation of Japan. As a member of the Catholic Church, he was a past president of the Holy Name Society and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1982 after 28 years of service. Tom and Maureen were planning to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on April 19. The Rosary will be recited on Monday, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10550 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Deacon Sandy Hall reciting. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, March 2, 1999, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Father Michael Cimino, Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Timothy Lonz, Patrick Lonz, Alan Gibson, Ferrell O'Rourke, Tim Dillon and Kevin O'Rourke. Honorary Pallbearers will be James V. O'Rourke, Art Brown, Steve Watkins, Carl Stratman, Carolyn Dillon, Patricia Lundgren, Mike Streich, Craig Gibson and Bruce Budagher. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
