Salazar-Lagunas -- Salazar- Jenny Salazar-Lagunas went to the arms of the Lord on Thursday, August 5, 1999 at the age of 60. She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary; Unit 100 President, 1993-1996; Trophies and Awards Department Chairman, 1993-1994; Ann Ellis Department Chairman, 1995-1996; District 9 Secretary/Treasurer, 1995-1996; District 9 Vice-President, 1996-1997. She was at present a member of Unit 13 in which she served as Unit President, 1997-1999, Constitution & Bylaws Department Chairman, 1999-Present. She was also very active with the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Martinez and husband, Arthur; her sons, George Anthony Salazar and wife, Bernice, Gilbert Salazar and Robert Salazar; her sister, Josie Gonzales and husband, Romeo, her brothers, Andy Chavez and Toby Chavez; grandchildren, Eric, Vanessa, Nichole, Sarka and Bo Martinez, David and Bennie Salazar, Valerie, Shantae and Elijah Salazar, and Robert Jr; great-grandchildren, Daisia Martinez and Querida Salazar; mother-in-law, Julia Lopez. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Ernesto Lagunas; her sister-in-law, Suzie Chavez; and her mother, Lupe Chavez. Rosary will be held Tuesday, August 10, at 7:30 p.m. and Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, August 11 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 300 Mildred Ave NW. Gurule -- Ricky Gurule, 34, a resident of Belen, passed away on August 1, 1999. He participated in Toys for Tots, the Motorcycle Run in Albuquerque and Los Lunas, as well as the Monster Truck festivals, entering his monster truck and jeep. Ricky was a very kind hearted person who was always ready to help his friends. He was known for his mantanzas, which he always had for his family and friends for Christmas. Ricky always did things for a good cause; he will be greatly missed by all of this friends and family. Ricky was preceded in death by his aunt, Mabel Gallegos in 1998; his uncles, Dennis in 1998 and David Gallegos in 1999. He is survived by his fiancee, Dorothy Sanchez; his loving parents, Martin and Sally Gurule; his three brothers, John and his wife, Donna, Tommy and his wife, Valerie, Marty and his wife, Lisa; one sister, Gloria Gonzales and her husband, Jason. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews; as well as his very special friends, Jeon, Ray and Shirley Sanchez, and Frank Torres. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., at the San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. also at the San Clemente Catholic Church. Montano -- Connie Montano passed away peacefully on July 31, 1999 at home with her family after a long battle with cancer at the age of 46. Her memory will be cherished by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Eloy Montano; and her son, Eloy Montano Jr.; her father, Santiago Chavez and mother, Faviola Chavez; her father and mother-in-law, Juan and Nicki Montano; her sister, Cathy Gonzales and husband, Ralph; her brother, James Chavez and wife, Lori; her sister, Marlene Zamora and husband, George; many nieces, nephews, and in-laws who loved her very much. The Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Garcia Mortuary on the corner of 8th and Iron. Mrs. Montano will lie in state today, from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning, time and place to be announced. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Albert Montano, James Chavez Jr., Gabriel Padilla, Gilbert Montano, George Zamora, Ralph Gonzales. Honorary bearers will be David Montes and Richard Cordova. Marquez -- Florencio Marquez, 71, a beloved father, grandfather, companion, brother and friend, was called home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 27, 1999 in Palm Springs, CA. Florencio was born in Marquez, NM; he was a well-known hair stylist and make-up artist for many years, established his shop on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, CA in April 1963; he quickly drew patrons from the motion picture and television industries; over the past 36 years his clientele included many male models, along with actors and business executives. Florencio, a former United States Marine, was a member of the Sierra Club and a long-time devoted member of the Miracle Mile Lions Club; an active hiker and horse rider. He is survived by his loving daughter, Loretta Nesting-Glass and husband, Robert Glass of Yuba City, CA; two precious grandsons, Wesley and Matthew Nesting; three brothers, Alex Marquez, Leo Marquez, both of Albuquerque, Toby Marquez of North Hollywood, CA; and two sisters, Virginia Chavez and husband, Paul of Albuquerque and Lolita LeBlanc and husband, Billy of Erath, LA; and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Visitations will be held today, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary, where a Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, 9:00 a.m., at St. Therese Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Albuquerque. Casket bearers will be First Lt. Chris Marquez, Michael Chavez, Alex Marquez, Toby Marquez, Leo Marquez, and Danny Armijo. Honorary bearers will be Wesley Nesting, Matthew Nesting, Paul Chavez, Charles Gonzales, Horace Vigil, Eulogio Serrano, Joe N. Vigil, Uvaldo Armijo, Norman Perea, Patrick O'Bryan, James Robinson, Robert Tilden and Steven O'Bryan. Military honors will be accorded by the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter III. Chavez -- Eva Marie"Chubs" Chavez, 19, of Bernalillo, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 1999. She was preceded in death by her brother, Herman Jr. She is survived by her parents, Gloria Gonzales and husband, Ralph of Bernalillo, Herman Chavez Sr. and wife, Reyna De Lara; three brothers, Raymond Chavez and wife, Dominique, Carlos Chavez, and James Gonzales; three sisters, Loretta Chavez and fiance, Rick Lucero, Filia Chavez and fiance, Anthony Hernandez, and Christine Gonzales; grandparents, Lorraine Garduno and Rupe Perea; great-grandmother, Frances Garduno. Eva will be greatly missed by her loving family. She graduated from Bernalillo High School in 1998, she had a 3.8 GPA. While in high school she lettered in basketball, baseball, and in soccer twice. She also played girls softball. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church where she was President of the youth group and also an Alter Server. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this morning, July 28, 1999, at Our lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Gutierrez, Jason Garcia, Cory Parks, Brandie Poolaw, Erlinda Farfan, and Anthony Garduno. Tafoya -- Piedad Compos Tafoya, born April 5th, 1905, passed away in her sleep, July 22, 1999. A lifetime resident of New Mexico, she has left a legacy of 8 children: Louise Gonzales, Tony Tafoya, Don Tafoya, Ema Armijo, MaryAna Fernandez, Alfonso Tafoya, Larry Tafoya and Raymond Tafoya. With those 8 children she left 56 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great grandchildren. She will be loved and missed very deeply. May God keep her always. Thomasula -- Michael Thomasula, 38, a resident of Albuquerque for 13 years, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999. He is survived by his mother, Margo Thomasula of Albuquerque; father, Frank Thomasula of New York; sister, Shelly Homer and husband, J.R. and their son, Aaron, all of Los Lunas; grandmothers, Esther Thomasula and Eleanor Greene, both of New York; and many aunts, uncles and cousins of Albuquerque and Buffalo, NY. Michael loved to eat at Garcia's Kitchen on Juan Tabo and enjoyed a good game of chess. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving for two years. Michael brought much love and joy to many and will be missed deeply by all his friends and family. Services will be held Monday, 3:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Deacon bob Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be J.R. Homer, Diego Duran, Danny Maez, Randy Dillard, Leo Gonzales and John Greene.
