Castle -- Everett W."Ed" Castle died on Saturday, July 24, 1999. He was born in Rockford, IL, on February 10, 1924, the second son of Clarence W. and Garnet Atkins Castle. Mr. Castle was preceded in death by his wife, Leanne Brookings Castle; his parents; and brother, Vince. He is survived by his son, Todd and wife, Gretchen; sister, Betty Ann Almond and husband, Chuck; best friend, Elizabeth Wills; and many wonderful nieces and nephews in Illinois and Minnesota. Remember, Tasha and Shyanne, Grandpa Ed loved you! Mr. Castle had a profound love for America. Shortly after his graduation from East Rockford High School, class of 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Castle served with the 5th Marine Division on Iwo Jima and later served during the war in Korea. In his later years, he was greatly saddened when young American men and women, boys and girls could kill each other with no provocation. Yes, Mr. Castle loved America. He traveled every American state except Alaska. Mr. Castle found great beauty in all of America and he found it easy to understand why each person had so much pride in his own state. Perhaps the years he spent in the Marine Corps brought out this urge to see the world, and he did indeed see a lot of it. Mr. Castle loved Canada and Canadians, because they thought, looked and sometimes acted like Americans. He later visited most of the Western European countries, South America, the Bahamas and many Pacific Islands. He loved to sail and had he been rich, we are certain he would have sailed the seven seas. This was not meant to sound like a travel story; it is an obituary, but Dad wanted to convey a message to his loving family and friends that he had a full and happy life. His childhood was full of love, he had the opportunity to serve his country, he had employment and he enjoyed many years of good health. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Wednesday, 9:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with The Rev. David E. Cruson, St. Luke Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment of cremains will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery with Chaplain Col. Lemuel M. Boyles officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim and Barbara Halsten and Richard and Carol Traeger. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Albuquerque Christian Children's Home, 5700 Winter Haven Rd. NW 87120. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
