PINO -- Alice Chavez Pino born October 21, 1913 in Polvadera, NM to Pedro N. and Maria B. Chavez expired at the home of her daughter in Tome, NM. She resided in Albuquerque for several years and was a member of Holy Ghost Parish. She and her husband, Antonio, were one of the founders of Holy Ghost Parish. She is survived by her three children Mary Ann Baca and husband, Oswald, David Pino and wife, Barbara and Boleslo Pino. She had nine grandchildren: Tom Griego, Carole Rutten, John Griego, Licia Pino, Nicholas Pino and Candace Pino (deceased), Monica Pino, Michelle Pino, and Aaron Pino and five great grandsons Carl and Jacob Rutten, Anthony and Joshua Griego, and Luke Griego. She is also survived by her sister Betty Silva and husband, Mike and five sisters-in-laws who were also her best friends, Flora Padilla and husband, Johnny, Nica Chavez and husband, Polo, Pat Ciddio, Rosa Chavez, and Enedina Chavez as well as her brother-in-law Placido Rivera. A very special thank you to Helena Harringon and Pam Mares from Lovelace Hospice for their loving care. Alice was a special aunt and great-aunt to all of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was known as Auntie Alice to a lot of people. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Antonio, her beautiful granddaughter, Candace, her parents Pedro and Maria Chavez, her brothers Seferino 1, Beltran, Seferino 2, Amadeo and Henry Chavez and her sister, Ida Rivera. Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday May 13, 2004 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday May 14, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. in Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Eduardo Soto, Don Daigle, Michael Silva, Philip Silva, Zack Romero and Danny Padilla will serve as casket bearers. "We'll love you forever, we'll like you for always. ADAMS -- Miller Harold (Hal) Adams went to his creator April 15, 2004 at 10:58 a.m after a long three year illness. Mr. Adams, 75, was born March 15, 1929 in Harrisonburg, VA, to Stella Miller Adams and Franklin Adams. He lived in Staunton, VA, until he joined the Air Force in 1948. Mr. Adams was stationed in San Antonio, TX, Cheyenne, WY, and New York. His overseas assignments from 1949 to 1954 were in Tripoli, Libya; the American Embassy in Rome, Italy; and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) Paris, France. Mr. Adams worked for General Narstod and his wife, Juanita (Fay), at SHAPE where she too was in the military. After SHAPE, he was assigned to the Pentagon and worked for the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1954 to 1958. Mr. Adams was married to Fay while stationed at the Pentagon. They were married in Stanton, VA, in December of 1954. In 1958, he was transferred to Sandia Base. In the summer of 1961, he went to Izmir, Turkey and worked for NATO where his wife and oldest son joined him. From Izmir, Turkey, he came back to Sandia Base. Mr. Adams was First Sergeant of the Air Force Squadron. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years in 1968. Mr. Adams went to work at Sandia Base Federal Credit Union days after his Air Force retirement. He was a loan officer, then president/CEO at the SAFCU until 1994 when he retired at age 65. Hal enjoyed being a little league coach where he coached both sons in the Roadrunner League. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 49 years, Fay and two sons; Martin H. and William F. He is also survived by sisters; Dorothy Heffington and husband Linwood and family of Virginia Beach, VA, Betty and Bob Thompson of Bridgewater, VA; brother Larry and Isabel Adams and family of Staunton, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving Hal are his sisters-in-law, Lita and Ernest Vigil and family of Santa Fe, Elsie Brown and family of Austin, TX, Margie and Ruben Mares and family of Albuquerque, many nieces and nephews and a dear childhood friend, Philip Stanley, of Staunton, VA. There are also many dear cousins in the Sanandoa Valley and Washington, D.C. areas. Mr. Adams shied away from mentioning the fact that one of his ancestors was John Quincy Adams. Hal was a descendant of the Adams who first settled in Virginia (mostly farmers) and Maryland area. He was distantly related to the politician, Sherman Adams, who was from the Maryland Adamses. To his wife and sons, he was the wind beneath our wings. He was our Rock of Gibraltar. Our love for him goes beyond words. He told us he was going to heaven and would be waiting for us. Our most sincere thanks go to the Presbyterian Hospice personnel who were so helpful and kind: nurses Cathy and Jan, caregivers Mary, Rebecca, and Vera, Chaplain Pat and Sister Norma. Thanks also to the Presbyterian Hospital staff at SAC on the 4th floor. The care they gave was outstanding. Thank you, Dr. Klager. MARES -- Robert Mares, 72, after a long illness, peacefully passed away in his home in Los Lunas Tuesday, April 13, 2004. He was born on July 14, 1931, in Santa Fe to Robert and Sophia Mares. Bobby was born and resided in Santa Fe until 1982. He married Jeanette Fay Brewer in Santa Fe on May 9, 1949 and they had nine children together. He worked until retirement as a correctional officer at the State Penitentiary in Santa Fe and Los Lunas. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and wood crafting. His daughter, Deborah Lynn Mares, preceded his death on October 11, 2003. He is survived by Fay, his faithful wife of 55 years; eight loving children, Elizabeth Olmstead, Jim Mares, Ed Mares, Linda Ruth Mares, Audrey Olson, Brian Mares, Barbie Garcia and Joe Mares; 28 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; brothers, Arthur and Michael Mares; sisters, Tessie Ortiz, Tillie Rodriguez, Dolores Dalton and Jenny Mares; many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Santa Fe. Memorial services will be performed by Pastor Mike Sams on Friday, April 16, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Los Lunas, 914 Los Lentes Road SE, Los Lunas.

BATTAT -- Aurora Mares Battat, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Anita Battat, of Albuquerque; sons, Kenneth Battat of Albuquerque and David Battat of Boston, MA; grandchildren, Thaddeus Jude Battat Beeley of Farmington, Margaret Summer Battat and Daniel Alexander Battat, both of Boston, MA; sisters, Carolina Hall and Eleanor Myers of Albuquerque, Celina Salazar and Elvira Archuleta both of Taos, NM, Tonita Negrette of San Francisco, CA; brothers, Belisandro Mares of Albuquerque, Orlando Mares of Belen, and Carlos Mares of Taos, NM. She was preceded in death by her sister, Flora Martinez and brothers, Andres Mares, Robert (Isaiah) Mares, and Eugene Mares. Aurora was born in the mountains of northern New Mexico in Blacklake on January 11, 1921 and moved to Taos while still a young girl. The sky, mountains, and people she grew up with shaped her view of life, which she kept until the end of her days. She married and moved to St. Louis, MO, then to Los Alamos, NM, in the late nineteen forties. She devoted her life in Los Alamos to raising her children and unselfishly supporting her husband, family and friends. It has been said that Los Alamos was a town where friends become family-everyone there was from somewhere else, a community of immigrants. She was fortunate to be geographically close to her family in Taos, and perhaps this is why she so successfully and continuously made strangers into friends and friends into family. She was a Charter member of Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, serving in many capacities, and always made time to help the less fortunate. She created and organized the Shop on the Corner, which clothed many needy Northern New Mexico residents. She moved to Albuquerque with her husband in 1977 and then to the Courtyard Dementia Unit at the Albuquerque Woodmark in 1999 where she spent her last years surrounded by family and strangers who became friends who became family who all remember her smile and voice and h er love for the earth and all its creatures. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 02, 2004, 3:30 p.m. French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE with Lay Minister to the Holy Orders Randy Lutz officiating. GRIEGO -- Cresenciano "Chris" Griego Jr. died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 in Albuquerque at the age of 56. Mr. Griego was a member of the U.S. Marines and served in during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for combat bravery. He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Anaya; ex-wife, Rita Griego; sons, Donnie Mares, Christopher Griego and wife, Joann, and Dominic Griego; brothers, Mac, Elias, Toby and Ralph; sisters, Dorothy and Barbara; and eight grandchildren. A Rosary for Mr. Griego will be recited on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. Funeral Services for Mr. Griego will be held on Saturday at St. Anne's Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Carnuel Cemetery. SAIS -- Mary Sais, age 83, passed away on March 4, 2004. She is survived by her loving husband, Greg Sais; her children, David Sais and wife, Terri of Cheyenne, WY, Barbara Mares and husband, Frank of Albuquerque, NM; Dolores Sais-Miera and husband, Joe Miera of Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Clara White; her grandchildren, Annette Sais-Suloff, Cristina Mares, Andrea Mares, Arianna Miera, Michael Greg Miera, and Raquel Miera; and two nieces, Mary Tafoya and Pat Abeyta. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law, and a gentle and caring person who always thought of others. She loved to cook, sew, and work in her garden. SAIS -- Mary Sais, age 83, passed away on March 4, 2004. She is survived by her loving husband, Greg Sais; her children, David and wife Terri Sais of Cheyenne, WY; Barbara and husband Frank Mares, Alb, NM; Dolores and Joe Sais-Miera, Alb, NM, one sister, Clara White; and her grandchildren, Annette Sais-Suloff, Cristina Mares, Andrea Mares, Arianne Miera, Michael Greg Miera and Raquel Miera. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She loved to cook, sew and do her gardening. She was a gentle and caring person who always thought of others. MARES -- Beatriz D. Mares of Albuquerque passed into eternal grace on Tuesday, February 17,2004 surrounded by her family. She was born in Puerta de Luna, NM to Willie and Pelagia Delgado. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Carmel Mares; and a daughter, Cecilia Mares. Also surviving are her sisters Cris O'Grady and husband, Barry, of Rio Rancho; Maria E. Delgado of Munds Park, AZ; brothers Willie Delgado and wife, Yvonne; Alfredo Delgado and wife, Ana; Phillip Delgado, all of Albuquerque; and many other family members. Bea was a registered nurse, graduate of St. Anthony's in Amarillo, TX. Her soft smile and good humor will be forever missed. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, February 20, 2004 at 7:00 PM at Sunrise Funeral Options, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE. A Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 8:30 a.m. Cremation will follow and Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
