Mr. Adams, 75, was born March 15, 1929 in Harrisonburg, VA, to Stella Miller Adams and Franklin Adams. He lived in Staunton, VA, until he joined the Air Force in 1948. Mr. Adams was stationed in San Antonio, TX, Cheyenne, WY, and New York. His overseas assignments from 1949 to 1954 were in Tripoli, Libya; the American Embassy in Rome, Italy; and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) Paris, France. Mr. Adams worked for General Narstod and his wife, Juanita (Fay), at SHAPE where she too was in the military. After SHAPE, he was assigned to the Pentagon and worked for the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1954 to 1958. Mr. Adams was married to Fay while stationed at the Pentagon. They were married in Stanton, VA, in December of 1954. In 1958, he was transferred to Sandia Base. In the summer of 1961, he went to Izmir, Turkey and worked for NATO where his wife and oldest son joined him. From Izmir, Turkey, he came back to Sandia Base. Mr. Adams was First Sergeant of the Air Force Squadron. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years in 1968. Mr. Adams went to work at Sandia Base Federal Credit Union days after his Air Force retirement. He was a loan officer, then president/CEO at the SAFCU until 1994 when he retired at age 65. Hal enjoyed being a little league coach where he coached both sons in the Roadrunner League. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 49 years, Fay and two sons; Martin H. and William F. He is also survived by sisters; Dorothy Heffington and husband Linwood and family of Virginia Beach, VA, Betty and Bob Thompson of Bridgewater, VA; brother Larry and Isabel Adams and family of Staunton, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving Hal are his sisters-in-law, Lita and Ernest Vigil and family of Santa Fe, Elsie Brown and family of Austin, TX, Margie and Ruben Mares and family of Albuquerque, many nieces and nephews and a dear childhood friend, Philip Stanley, of Staunton, VA. There are also many dear cousins in the Sanandoa Valley and Washington, D.C. areas. Mr. Adams shied away from mentioning the fact that one of his ancestors was John Quincy Adams. Hal was a descendant of the Adams who first settled in Virginia (mostly farmers) and Maryland area. He was distantly related to the politician, Sherman Adams, who was from the Maryland Adamses. To his wife and sons, he was the wind beneath our wings. He was our Rock of Gibraltar. Our love for him goes beyond words. He told us he was going to heaven and would be waiting for us. Our most sincere thanks go to the Presbyterian Hospice personnel who were so helpful and kind: nurses Cathy and Jan, caregivers Mary, Rebecca, and Vera, Chaplain Pat and Sister Norma. Thanks also to the Presbyterian Hospital staff at SAC on the 4th floor. The care they gave was outstanding. Thank you, Dr. Klager.
