Markowitz -- Sanford (Sandy) S. Markowitz, 63 years old, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 15, 2000. He was a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1959, and a former resident of Albany, New York. He is survived by his parents, Jack and Ida Markowitz of Albany, New York; his brother, Sid Markowitz and wife, Eileen of New Jersey; his sister, Helene Blanc of California; his son, Wess Markowitz and wife, Donna of Indiana; his son, David Markowitz, MD and Beatrice Mete of Albany, New York; two grandchildren, Jessica and Jennifer Markowitz of Indiana, and his long time companion, Beth Coe of Albuquerque, along with many other friends and relatives. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him. Sandy was a graduate of Albany High School, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War era, an officer of the Paradise Hills Volunteer Fire Department, and was a district representative of the Duke City Singles. He was also a member of the AOK Aeromodelers of Kirtland and an active member of the Albuquerque ROMEOs. He retired from Sandia Corporation after thirty-four years of service. Cremation has taken place. Please contact Sandy's home for information regarding a memorial gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the cancer charity of your choice.

Ramsey -- Arthur Benjamin Ramsey, 85, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lyle Osborne Ramsey; sons, Phillip Ramsey of Palm Beach, FL, David Ramsey and wife, Susan of Lake Jackson, TX, Hal Ramsey and wife, Debbie of Plano, TX, Rev. Benjamin Ramsey and wife, Ann of Gainsville, TX, Jeff Ramsey and wife, Rebecca of Corrales, NM; grandchildren, Douglas, Elizabeth, Allana, and Alexandria Ramsey; step-mother, Mary Fiers Ramsey of Scottsdale, AZ; sister, Marie Maril of Oklahoma City, OK. Mr. Ramsey was born on November 27, 1915 in Oklahoma City, OK to Walter Roy and Anna Virginia Ramsey. Arthur was destined to live a special life. At the age of 13 he began his career as a newsreel cameraman by filming the President of the United States at Yellowstone National Park. During the decade of the 1930's, he filmed all of the events and people of a depression-era Oklahoma. He was an aviator in the late 1920's flying his own Stearman biplane. When WWII started, he joined the production people of Hollywood in a special combat film unit in the Signal Corps. After the war he was President of the Empire State Building. His father, a titan in the oil business, passed away in 1946. Arthur returned to Oklahoma and started an oil business of his own. He moved to Albuquerque in 1969, running his oil business from here until his death. He loved life to the fullest. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held for his friends at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2000 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles, officiating. Private interment of the cremains will take place at a later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Sanchez -- QUERINA SANCHEZ 12-31-124-18-00 ON APRIL 18, 2000 QUERINA SANCHEZ WENT TO BE WITH THE LORD AND HER BELOVED HUSBAND, HERMAN SANCHEZ, WHO PRECEDED HER IN DEATH. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF SAN JOSE PARISH AND A MEMBER OF THE SACRED HEART SOCIETY. SHE BELONGED TO THE CHOIR. SHE WAS AN UPSTANDING MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY. Gibson -- Marjorie Gibson, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1942, died Monday, April 17, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Sherman Gibson of Albuquerque; daughters, Bonnie Wood and husband, LeRoy of Clayton, NM and Sharon Jones and husband, John F."Jack" of Washington, DC; grandchildren, Robyn Wood, Wade Wood and wife, Lisa, all of Clayton, Wesley Wood and wife, Brenda of Amarillo, TX, Christopher Chaney of Albuquerque, and Lauren Jones of Washington, DC; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Neiderman of Albuquerque and Benny Snow of Moriarty; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gibson was dedicated and loved by her family and church. Services will be held Thursday, April 20, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Jim Price officiating. Lewis -- Donald G. Lewis, 69, passed away at home April 14, 2000. He came to New Mexico in 1975 from Racine, Wisconsin. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce; three children, Pam and husband, Robert of Racine, WS, Jeffery and wife, Kathy of Rio Rancho; seven grandchildren, Justin (deceased) of Pocatel, ID, Cari, Heidi and Katy of Racine, WS, Jennifer, Nicole and James of Rio Rancho; one great-granddaughter, Christina of Racine, WS; sister, Sally and husband, Warren of SunCity, AZ; brother, James and wife, Julie of Lake Ridge, VA. David served in Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the B.P.O.E., Lodge #2500. There will be celebration of David's life Thursday, April 20, 2000, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Elks Lodge, 1530 Barbara Loop, Rio Rancho for family and friends. Lucero -- Richard G. Lucero, 84, passed on into the loving arms of our Lord after a battle with cancer on April 16, 2000. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, he is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lumina; daughters, Dora Knee Brandt and husband, Joseph, Sylvia Lucero, Linda Lucero Martinez, Rita Lucero; and son, Joseph Lucero and wife, Joyce, all of Albuquerque. He is also survived nine grandchildren, Steve Knee and wife, Helen, Dan Knee and wife, Sarah, Sandra Knee Novak and husband, Mike, Monica Martinez Carmignani and husband, Tony, Stephanie Lucero Porras, Denice Lucero, John Lucero, Deborah Lucero Maestas and husband, David; 15 great-grandchildren, Peter, Danielle, Nicholas, Amanda, Ciara, Kristiana, Jordan and Collin Knee, Taylor Novak, Tony and Marissa Carmignani, Alexis Porras and Gilbert, Damian and Alyssa Maestas. His brothers who also survive him are Henry, Santiago, and Ross and his wife, Ida Lucero. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Isidro Lucero; a son, Dick; a sister, Stella; sons-in-law, Pete Knee, Gilbert Lucero and Peter Martinez. A veteran of WWII, he served in the US Navy as a Seabee during 1943-1945. He worked as a glazier and retired in 1978. Richard was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an Usher. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, 7:00 p.m., at Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Cremation has taken place and private services will follow. Memorial Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper Ave. NW, 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2000 with Reverend Richard W. McGowan officiating. A Celebration of Life reception will be held at the Catholic Charismatic Center, 1412 5th Street NW following the Mass. Saavedra -- Mrs. Mary Saavedra, 71, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on April 15, 2000. Mrs. Saavedra was the beloved wife of 53 years to Mr. Felipe Saavedra. She is also survived by one daughter, Lorrey Saavedra; two sons, Felipe Saavedra and wife, Elizabeth, and Eugene Saavedra; two sisters, Tommie Rosas and husband, Ray and Lydia Gonzales and husband, Peter; six brothers, Julian Mendoza, Epitacio Mendoza and wife, Katie, Victor Mendoza and wife, Lita, Pilar Mendoza and wife, Lucy, Pedro Mendoza and wife, Mary, and Ralph Mendoza; 12 grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eloy and Ignacita Mendoza; and her son, Albert Saavedra. Mrs. Saavedra was a member of the Catholic Church, retired from A.P.S., devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and loved being with her family. A Rosary was recited Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at the Ascension Catholic Church, 2150 Raymac SW, at 9:00 a.m. with visitation after 8:30 a.m. Father Sivila, Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Pajarito Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gabriel Saavedra, Luis Saavedra, Albert Saavedra Jr., Ignacio Saavedra, Arthuro Torres III and David Torres. Slaughter -- Edwin Ray Slaughter, age 68, died on April 8, 2000 at home in Oxnard, CA and has gone to be with the Lord. Ed was born on September 26, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana and grew up in Indianapolis with his family. Ed retired from the US Army as an illustrator and then became an insurance adjuster in Albuquerque. Ed and his wife moved to California in 1978 where Ed continued to work in insurance as well as give art lessons. Ed and his wife located to Oxnard, CA in 1998. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Helen Marie (Mickey) Slaughter; his children, Susan Burlison and husband, Tom of Albuquerque and Jeffery Slaughter of Fair Oaks, CA; grandchildren, Christine Burlison of Albuquerque, and Brett Slaughter of Fair Oaks, CA; and brothers and sisters, Christina Riordan and husband, Frank of Niangua, MO, David Slaughter and wife, Sherry of Jupiter, FL, Earl Slaughter and wife, Barbara of Indianapolis, IN, Juanita Bryant and husband, Carol of Indianapolis, IN and Nina Mayes and husband, Larry of Monrovia, IN. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Harvey; as well as brother, Harvey Slaughter (survived by wife, Sally), of Carmel, IN and Paul Slaughter (survived by wife, Teresa) of Indianapolis, IN; and sisters, Gertrude Smith of W. Dennis, MA and Virginia Gorbett of Las Vegas, NV. A Memorial celebration of Ed's life will be held April 21, 2000, 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM 87501.
