Lucero -- Richard G. Lucero, 84, passed on into the loving arms of our Lord after a battle with cancer on April 16, 2000. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, he is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lumina; daughters, Dora Knee Brandt and husband, Joseph, Sylvia Lucero, Linda Lucero Martinez, Rita Lucero; and son, Joseph Lucero and wife, Joyce, all of Albuquerque. He is also survived nine grandchildren, Steve Knee and wife, Helen, Dan Knee and wife, Sarah, Sandra Knee Novak and husband, Mike, Monica Martinez Carmignani and husband, Tony, Stephanie Lucero Porras, Denice Lucero, John Lucero, Deborah Lucero Maestas and husband, David; 15 great-grandchildren, Peter, Danielle, Nicholas, Amanda, Ciara, Kristiana, Jordan and Collin Knee, Taylor Novak, Tony and Marissa Carmignani, Alexis Porras and Gilbert, Damian and Alyssa Maestas. His brothers who also survive him are Henry, Santiago, and Ross and his wife, Ida Lucero. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Isidro Lucero; a son, Dick; a sister, Stella; sons-in-law, Pete Knee, Gilbert Lucero and Peter Martinez. A veteran of WWII, he served in the US Navy as a Seabee during 1943-1945. He worked as a glazier and retired in 1978. Richard was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an Usher. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, 7:00 p.m., at Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Cremation has taken place and private services will follow. Memorial Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper Ave. NW, 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2000 with Reverend Richard W. McGowan officiating. A Celebration of Life reception will be held at the Catholic Charismatic Center, 1412 5th Street NW following the Mass. Honorary pallbearers will be John and Jacob Lucero, Stephen and Daniel Knee, Michael Novak, David Maestas and Tony Carmignani. Should friends and family desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Quality Continuum Hospice, 2625 Pennsylvania St. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
