Archibeque -- Dorothy Archibeque, 77, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, was called home to be with the Lord, Monday, April 17, 2000. Mrs. Archibeque was born in Algodones, NM; and was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She is survived by three daughters, Pauline Baldonado of Albuquerque, Margie Rivera and son-in-law, Ben of Algodones, Erlinda Lovato and husband, Anistacio of Albuquerque; two sons, Norbert R. Baldonado Sr. and wife, Patricia (Patsy) of Alameda, Gilbert Baldonado and wife, Mona of Los Lunas; Goddaughter, Betty Montiel and husband, Anthony of Albuquerque 17 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Emilia Garcia and husband, Pete of Algodones. Visitations will be held this morning, from 11:00 a.m. till the time of Rosary at 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 Stover Ave. SW., with Fr. James Moore as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Anthony Montiel, Norbert (Ray) Baldonado Jr., Gilbert Baldonado, Steve Lovato, Anistacio Lovato and Michael Doiel. Catone -- Katherine E. Catone, 28, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, was called home to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 16, 2000. Kat was born on May 23, 1971 in Santa Ana, CA; she was a graduate of Parkland High School and TVI here in Albuquerque; and worked as a registered nurse at Presbyterian Hospital and University of New Mexico Medical Center; Kat was a resident of of Albuquerque for nine years; and made many good and loyal friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Scott Catone; infant daughter, Bailey Mackenzie Catone; her mother, Alicia S. Turner; father, Joseph M. Turner; one brother, Carlos J. Alvarez; a large extended family in Texas, California and Arizona; and a host of friends. She will be greatly missed. On behalf of Kat's husband and extended family they wish to thank all her friends who have offered their support and assistance. Gibson -- Marjorie Gibson, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1942, died Monday, April 17, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Sherman Gibson of Albuquerque; daughters, Bonnie Wood and husband, LeRoy of Clayton, NM and Sharon Jones and husband, John F."Jack" of Washington, DC; grandchildren, Robyn Wood, Wade Wood and wife, Lisa, all of Clayton, Wesley Wood and wife, Brenda of Amarillo, TX, Christopher Chaney of Albuquerque, and Lauren Jones of Washington, DC; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Neiderman of Albuquerque and Benny Snow of Moriarty; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gibson was dedicated and loved by her family and church. Hunter -- Donnie M. Hunter, 69, a resident of Albuquerque since 1973, died. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Taeko Jean Hunter of Albuquerque; daughters, Linda J. Atkinson and husband, Richard, Nancy Hunter Ellison and husband, Marc, and Amy K. Hunter, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Bryan, Michelle, Justin, Tammy; brother, Tom Hunter and wife, Ginger of Tulsa, OK; sister, Wilma Sparks and Jerry of Oklahoma; and many other family and friends. Huntsman -- William T. (Bill) Huntsman III, age 71, a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, died Saturday in a local hospital. He is survived by his wife, Marie T. Huntsman; five sons, William T. Huntsman IV and wife, Julie, Robert I. Huntsman and wife, Jackie, both of Albuquerque, Peter F. Kelley and wife, Kathy of Albuquerque, Matthew W. Kelley and wife, Cheri of Laramie, WY, Sean E. Kelley and wife, Patty of Benicia, CA; three daughters, Molly Bency and husband, Douglas of Tijeras, Maura Lewiecki and husband, E. Michael of Albuquerque, Kathleen Floyd of Atlanta, GA; 15 grandchildren. A loving and beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of the Elks Club, Kiwanis Club, Boy Scouts of America, and Memded Hearts, Inc. A Veteran of WWII and Korea, attended Our Lady of Fatima Church, has worked with French-Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Sandia National Laboratory, Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, and Plasco Sales. Kern -- Robert Kern, 65, a resident of Albuquerque, a professor of History at the University of New Mexico, died of cancer on Saturday, April 15, 2000. He had taught at UNM for over thirty years. Kern, born in St. Louis, MO, spent some of his childhood living in Europe with his mother, an operatic singer and music teacher. He graduated with a B.A. from Antioch College, Yellow Springs, OH, and after a year in law school obtained a M.A. and Ph.D in history from the University of Chicago, where he studied under William Hardy McNeil and Bernardo Blanco Gonzalez. After a postdoctoral scholarship to the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley, he taught at the University of California, Riverside, and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, before coming to UNM in 1968. While at the university, he served for more than a decade on the Faculty Senate and as chair of the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Committee, as well as spending eight years as president of the local chapter of the American Association of University Professors. On the national level, he was a founding member and former office-holder of the Society of Spanish and Portuguese Historical Studies and of the Southwestern Labor Studies Association. Of Kern's ten books, his dissertation provided the material for two of the earliest, both of which dealt with the problems connected with the modernization of political structures in the Spanish-speaking world. He later created and co-edited The Historical Dictionary of Modern Spanish History and The Regions of Spain: A Historical and Cultural Guide. His study of the Spanish Civil War, Red Years/Black Years: A Political History of the Spanish Anarchists, 1909-1937, was particularly well known. In addition, Kern wrote about New Mexico, and his Labor History of New Mexico was published by the UNM Press. He co-edited with Jane Slaughter one of the first collections to deal with women in radical politics, European Women on the Left. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Kern. Mr. Kern is survived by his sons, Jonathan of Studio City, CA and Joshua and his wife, Katie of Denver; and by his wife of the past eleven years, Susan Brake. Adios Jon, Josh, and Susie, all of whom he loved very much, because he wrote this obit, wanting to write and edit right down to the final moment of life. Cremation has taken place and memorial services to celebrate his life and work will be held on Friday, April 21st, 2:30 p.m., in the Alumni Chapel at the University of New Mexico. Lewis -- Donald G. Lewis, 69, passed away at home April 14, 2000. He came to New Mexico in 1975 from Racine, Wisconsin. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce; three children, Pam and husband, Robert of Racine, WS, Jeffery and wife, Kathy of Rio Rancho; seven grandchildren, Justin (deceased) of Pocatel, ID, Cari, Heidi and Katy of Racine, WS, Jennifer, Nicole and James of Rio Rancho; one great-granddaughter, Christina of Racine, WS; sister, Sally and husband, Warren of SunCity, AZ; brother, James and wife, Julie of Lake Ridge, VA. David served in Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the B.P.O.E., Lodge #2500. Lucero -- Richard G. Lucero, 84, passed on into the loving arms of our Lord after a battle with cancer on April 16, 2000. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, he is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lumina; daughters, Dora Knee Brandt and husband, Joseph, Sylvia Lucero, Linda Lucero Martinez, Rita Lucero; and son, Joseph Lucero and wife, Joyce, all of Albuquerque. He is also survived nine grandchildren, Steve Knee and wife, Helen, Dan Knee and wife, Sarah, Sandra Knee Novak and husband, Mike, Monica Martinez Carmignani and husband, Tony, Stephanie Lucero Porras, Denice Lucero, John Lucero, Deborah Lucero Maestas and husband, David; 15 great-grandchildren, Peter, Danielle, Nicholas, Amanda, Ciara, Kristiana, Jordan and Collin Knee, Taylor Novak, Tony and Marissa Carmignani, Alexis Porras and Gilbert, Damian and Alyssa Maestas. His brothers who also survive him are Henry, Santiago, and Ross and his wife, Ida Lucero. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Isidro Lucero; a son, Dick; a sister, Stella; sons-in-law, Pete Knee, Gilbert Lucero and Peter Martinez. A veteran of WWII, he served in the US Navy as a Seabee during 1943-1945. He worked as a glazier and retired in 1978. Richard was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an Usher. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, 7:00 p.m., at Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Cremation has taken place and private services will follow. Ramsey -- Arthur Benjamin Ramsey, 85, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lyle Osborne Ramsey; sons, Phillip Ramsey of Palm Beach, FL, David Ramsey and wife, Susan of Lake Jackson, TX, Hal Ramsey and wife, Debbie of Plano, TX, Rev. Benjamin Ramsey and wife, Ann of Gainsville, TX, Jeff Ramsey and wife, Rebecca of Corrales, NM; grandchildren, Douglas, Elizabeth, Allana, and Alexandria Ramsey; step-mother, Mary Fiers Ramsey of Scottsdale, AZ; sister, Marie Maril of Oklahoma City, OK. Mr. Ramsey was born on November 27, 1915 in Oklahoma City, OK to Walter Roy and Anna Virginia Ramsey. Arthur was destined to live a special life. At the age of 13 he began his career as a newsreel cameraman by filming the President of the United States at Yellowstone National Park. During the decade of the 1930's, he filmed all of the events and people of a depression-era Oklahoma. He was an aviator in the late 1920's flying his own Stearman biplane. When WWII started, he joined the production people of Hollywood in a special combat film unit in the Signal Corps. After the war he was President of the Empire State Building. His father, a titan in the oil business, passed away in 1946. Arthur returned to Oklahoma and started an oil business of his own. He moved to Albuquerque in 1969, running his oil business from here until his death. He loved life to the fullest. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held for his friends at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2000 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles, officiating. Private interment of the cremains will take place at a later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Richards -- Donald R. Richards, 68, a resident of Belen for 27 years, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2000 after a short illness. He was born on October 10, 1931 in Omaha, Nebraska. Don retired from the US Airforce after 21 years of distinguished service. He serviced throughout the world, including Vietnam. After receiving an honorable discharge, Don, his wife, Lela, and children moved to Belen where he lived the remainder of his life. Don had many outside interests, which included being an officer and active member of the Moose Lodge #1680, VFW Post 32387, and the American Legion Post 358. Unfortunately, Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lela (Liz) after 45 years of marriage; his son, Walter (Dick) Richards in 1994. He is survived by his loving children, Ernest Richards of Gillette, WY, Sheryl Mobbley and her husband, John of Belen, Cindy Hultgren of Albuquerque, and Charles Richards of Los Lunas; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be sadly and greatly missed by his many family and friends. Cremation has taken place. No services will be held at Don's request. Shirley -- Lillie M. Shirley "Granny" February 16, 1923 - April 15, 2000Granny, your life hasn't ended, you've just gone on to greener pastures, to be with the Lord and relish in the place He has prepared for you. You have left us to go on alone, but not without the wisdom you have given us. We will always remember you for your kindness and the willingness to give. You have touched so many lives, strangers, as well as family and friends. Your contribution to all will be remembered forever. Granny, it will be hard to go on without you. When we long to hear your words of encouragement, we need only to listen to our hearts, for you have filled them with many fond memories and great wisdom. We will go on with the strength that you have passed on to us. You were always there to love us with your unconditional love, a love that passed no judgment, but nudged us down the right path. Stromberg -- Thomas Daniel Stromberg, born May 5, 1953, in Albuquerque, died April 17 in a traffic accident in San Mateo, CA. Tom attended St. Pius X High School and the University of New Mexico. Tom developed information management systems for the city of Seattle from 1876 to 1980. Tom and Louise Whiley were married August 25, 1982 in Seattle. From 1980 to 1984 Tom managed a retail conversation project for Seattle First National Bank. From 1984 to 1991, Tom was the technology general manager for Bank of America in San Francisco. As vice-president of information technology of the Gap Inc. from 1991 to 1999, Tom managed information and technology for the Gap during these years of critical growth. Tom was the chief information officer for the Old Navy Division of the Gap. Tom had just started a working group as CIO for Wal-Mart.com to develop their internet retail enterprise. Tom was known for his playful and spirited approach to business and life. Well known to all the children in his neighborhood, Tom was loved for the many adventures and fun he provided to his children and their friends at St. Matthew's Episcopal Day School and at Serra High School. No child was without a playmate if Tom was nearby. His home was always open to friends and visitors and was a constant center of activity, games, sports and play for everyone. Tom is survived by his wife, Louise; his sons, John and Michael; and his daughter, Katherine. Also survived by his parents, Patricia and Robert; sisters, Mary, Ann and Marcella (Albuquerque); brother, Mark (Carmel Valley, CA), Peter and James (Albuquerque), Paul (Portland); and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and John. Funeral will be held on Monday, April 24 at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Burlingame at 10:00 a.m. with a celebration of his life to follow at the parish hall. Burial will be in Albuquerque. A children's educational fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank.

Swope -- Ellen Pearl Swope, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2000 in Albuquerque. She was born in Johnson County, MO on November 27, 1911, the daughter of Earl and Effie Boosinger. She was married on December 1, 1933 to William O. Swope, who preceded her death in 1964. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Veda Black and Earline Lipton; brother, Robert Boosinger, all of Johnson County, MO; and one daughter, Helen Joann Swope of Lawton, OK and Albuquerque. Mrs. Swope is survived by four children, Carol Jean Ele, William E. Swope, both of Albuquerque, Jerry Swope and Terry Swope, both of Independence, MO. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is survived by a brother, Raymond Boosinger and sister, Dorthy Chappell of Johnson County, MO. She was a teacher in Johnson County, MO before moving to Independence, MO in 1957 to finish her teaching career at Ott, Randall and Benton Elementary Schools. Her education was received from Central Missouri State University from which she received a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters of Science in Education. She was a member of Carlisle Baptist Church in Independence, a member of Missouri State Teachers Association and AARP. She was a past member of the American Association of University Women. Mrs. Swope was an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and students with her patience, kindness and strength, and will be greatly missed by all who loved her. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, April 20, 2000, 2:00 p.m., at the Northdale Baptist Church, 123 Osuna NW. Graveside services will take place in Warrensburg, MO on Saturday, April 22, 2000.

Tracy -- Gertrude (Trudy) Tracy, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1961, died Saturday, April 15, 2000. She is survived by her son, Robert J. Tracy and wife, Ellen O'Conner of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Julie, Michael, and Steven. Mrs. Tracy married Edward Garfield Tracy in 1948 in Milwaukee, WI. He preceded her in death in 1972. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. She retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center as an occupational therapist. After her retirement, she volunteered at the downtown public library. Cremation has taken place and a memorial scripture service will be held Thursday, April 20, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Deacon James Baca officiating. Private interment of cremated remains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Zimmerman -- Ellsworth Willard, (E.W.) Zimmerman, 91, also known as"Zim" to friends and relatives, a resident of Albuquerque since 1981, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 15, 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Pauline Kelley Zimmerman in 1998; two brothers, Orville and Oakley, and a sister, Marie. He is survived by a son, Roger and wife, Betty of Albuquerque; grandsons, Paul of Seattle, WA and Michael and wife, Anita of Elephant Butte, NM; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jacqueline. Zim was born in a farmhouse near Waldron, MI on November 11, 1908 to Willard and Minnie Graham Zimmerman. He attended schools in Waldron and business college in Ft. Wayne, IN. In 1929 he came to McGaffey, NM to serve as a bookkeeper at the general store, where his brother, Orville was already employed. He was joined months later by his fiancee, Pauline, and they were married at the Congregational Church in Gallup, NM on January 7, 1930. Later that year they moved in Zuni, NM where he was employed at the Kelsey Trading Company. He learned the trading business under the tutorship of Mr. Charles Kelsey, and at the same learned to speak Zuni. In 1936, Zim and Pauline purchased the Mariano Lake Trading Post on the Navajo Reservation and remained there until 1943. He learned to speak Navajo with the help of Clarence Warner, a Navajo who lived nearby and was his main employee. The memoirs of their early lives in New Mexico are title"Our Story on Trials and Tribulations of Adjusting to the Wild West" and can be found in the Gallup Public Library. Zim served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the latter stages of WWII. After the war, Zim was cited by President Truman for his help in recruiting Navajos to work on the construction of the Fort Wingate Ordinance Depot. In April of 1946, Zim and Pauline moved to Gallup, NM where they purchased the Popular Dry Goods. This later became Zimmerman's and, after retirement, was purchased by long term employee Arnold Hudgeons. During his years in Gallup, he served as President of the Gallup Rotary Club and the Gallup Chamber of Commerce. He was active on the Board of Directors of the Intertribal Indian Ceremonial for many years. He belonged to the Ballut Abyad Temple and continually supported the Shriner's Children's Projects. In 1967, Zim and Pauline moved to Scottsdale, AZ for semi-retirement. Summers were spent near Osseo, MI, where they had a cottage on Bird Lake. He was a devoted dad and grandfather. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and hunting and relished the time that he could spend with family and friends in these activities. He enjoyed music, having learned to play the trombone in school and, in his early years, he played in dance bands. He taught himself to play the piano while at Mariano Lake and later learned to play the organ. Zim was a businessman throughout his adult life and lamented on the dramatic loss in the stock market the day before his passing. Services will be held Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Dr. Charles Crutchfield officiating. Pallbearers will be Matthew Zimmerman, Arnold Hudgeons, Jay Christensen, Jerry Hall, Roger Cox, and Paul McCollum. Honorary pallbearer will be longtime friend and fellow trader, Dan Christensen. In lieu of flowers, Zim had pre-requested that contributions be made to Futures for Children, 9600 Tennyson NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
