Barry -- Helen Barry, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1941, died in Seattle, WA, Monday, March 17, 2003 where she lived with her son's family since 1991. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Pecha and husband, James of Albuquerque, son, Robert Barry and wife, Nancy of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Alex and Elizabeth Barry; and sister, Angela Williams of Ruston, LA. Mrs. Barry was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 40 years, Robert Barry in 1981. She was born May 22, 1913 in Ruston, LA. She was a 4th grade teacher at Bel Air, Tomasita and Sombre del Monte Elementary Schools in Albuquerque for over 35 years. Mrs. Barry was a Charter Member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church. All who knew her were touched by her gentle compassion and we all are better people for having known her. Urban -- Patrick James, MD, 39, a resident of Albuquerque, died on March 14, 2003, while climbing in the vicinity of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. He is survived by his wife, Denise Coleman, MD; daughters, Samantha 4, and Jessica 2; his parents, Jim and Roberta"Robbi"; sisters, Betsy and Holly; and brother, Scott. He was born in Deols, France and grew up in Denver, Colorado. He attended Cherry Creek High School and graduated from the University of Colorado and the St Louis University Medical School. He completed his residency at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in 1993, at which time he joined as an obstetrician and gynecologist the Women's Specialists of New Mexico. He was President of the New Mexico Chapter of the American College of Gynecology. Pat had a passion for mountaineering. In spring 2001 he achieved a lifelong goal of climbing the 54 highest peaks in Colorado; in December 2002, he summitted Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa. Pat will be remembered for his good humor, appreciation for good wine and his zest for life. He lived his life to the fullest and was always ready for the next adventure. At the end of every climb he would say,"That was great!! Now I want to go home and see my (three) girls!" He was approximately 3 hours into his all-day trek, and attempting his second peak when he was overcome by an avalanche. His body was recovered by Banff Park wardens the following day under 2.5 meters of snow. Services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. at the Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Rd., NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to the Rio Grande Division of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2021 Girard SE.

Gibanica -- Evelyn Gibanica, age 84, died Thursday March 13, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Samuel Gibanica on May 6, 2000. Evelyn was a delightful woman who loved to be around people and laugh. She was a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her daughter, Diane Deflon-Ray and husband, James; her son, Stephen Gibanica and wife, Judy; grandson, Eric Deflon; granddaughter, Stacy Jackson; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Victoria Deflon survive her. Her sisters, Kathleen Bellingar and husband, Lee and Johnnie Mae Wesson; nieces, nephews, friends, also survive Evelyn and a faithful Basset Hound named Rumbles. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Reception will be held at Aspen Funeral Alternatives, 1935 Juan Tabo NE, on Thursday March 20th at 11:00 a.m.. Private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Templeton -- Frank Templeton, 98, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2003. He was born on June 5, 1904 to Frank and Amanda Banks Templeton in Range County, TX. As a young boy, he moved with his parents by covered wagon to New Mexico where his parents and 12 siblings homesteaded in the Taos-Carson area. Frank joined the Marines at 18 and was assigned to the USS Maryland in the Cuba-Panama area. He always participated with the Marine Corps Rifle Team and was honored to win the"Navy E" for his shooting ability. Later he worked with the Calvary and thus started a lifelong love of horses and animals. Frank was active in his church and was nicknamed"the Candy Man" by all of the children. He loved to serve in the temple each week and did so up until his death. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; son, Renae; and grandson, Rodney. Survivors include his daughter, Mary; granddaughters, Kathy Bishop and husband, Myron and Cheri Johnson and husband, Jeff; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be Thursday, March 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS Church at 12701 Indian School Road NE with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rick Wadley, Steve Wadley, Ryan Bishop, Nathan Bishop, Don LaFond, Michael Gardner, Roger Thompson and James Witt. Anderson -- Virginia Anderson, 75, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, March 15, 2003. She was a member of the San Clemente Catholic Church, Alter Society, PTA of Los Lunas, and the Valencia County Extension Club. She worked at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School as a secretary for many years. Virginia enjoyed her many friendships made while participating in the activities at the Los Lunas Senior Citizens Center. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, James"Jim" in 2000; her son, Philip Eamon in 1958; parents, Ralph and Tillie Bocell; and her two brothers, Stanley and Gilbert Bocell. She is survived by her eight children, Catherine Anderson of Albuquerque; Stephen Anderson and his wife, Linda of Woodland Park, CO; Helen Anderson of Anton Chico, NM; Maurine Davis and her husband, Michael of Rio Rancho; Loraine Sanchez and her husband, Donald of Los Lunas; Paul S. Anderson and his wife, Wanda of Albuquerque, Mary Anderson of Albuquerque; and Dolores Yarosz and her husband, Ted of Troy, TX; 13 loving grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews."Sister" is also survived by her brother, Robert Bocell of TX. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home on Monday, March 17, 2003 at 5:30pm followed by a Rosary at 6:00pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at the San Clemente Catholic Church at 10:00am with interment following at the Los Lentes Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Andrea and Estevan Sanchez, Amanda, Michael Paul, and Corey Davis, Jacy Morey, Eric Anderson and Adam Anderson. Mitchell -- Nicholas James"Nick" Mitchell passed away on Monday, February 3, 2003 in Fresno, CA at the age of 79. Nick was born on June 19, 1923 in Terre Haute, IN. His father, James Metsopolos of Argos, Greece and his mother, Efthemeia Pappas of Sparta, Greece were immigrants to the United States and settled in Indiana. Nicholas served his country in Troop C, 38th Calvary Reconnaissance Squad in World War II, in the French Campaign, where he was wounded. He received a Purple Heart, a Battle Star, and an Eastern Theatre Ribbon for his service. Nick and family moved to Albuquerque in 1952 where he worked for the Civil Service at Kirtland Air Force Base until he retired in 1990. Nicholas and wife, Joan moved to Fresno, CA in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Joan Mitchell of Coarse Gold, CA; son, Robert Mitchell and wife, Judith of Rio Rancho, NM; daughter, Carolyn Bent of Rio Rancho, NM; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials Services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. till noon at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 308 High Street, SE, Albuquerque, NM. Family and friends are invited to attend. Service conducted by Father Mario Giannolpolos.

Bowers -- Roger L. Bowers, 85, passed away Friday, March 7, 2003 at Presbyterian Hospice. Son of Charles Jacob and Grace Bowers, he was born in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was preceded in death by Bessie, his wife of 48 years. Roger had a love of flying and began at an early age offering 25 cent rides and thrills in his open cockpit plane to adventurous residents of small farming communities along the east coast. During World War II, he supervised work on commercial and military passenger and cargo aircraft in Canada and Alaska. Following the war, he served as a private pilot and Designated Maintenance Inspector for the Federal Aviation Authority of the eastern Nevada territory. As the aviation industry grew, so did Roger's contributions. He became Chief Inspector for F89, B45 and B50 aircraft and guidance systems; testing of experimental jet engines for the F2H, A3D and F7U; testing the Supersonic Ejection System for the F106 with live subjects; testing the prototype models of the F102, F106, 340 Airliner and the B36D Bomber. Years spent in aviation moved him from quality control supervision of small aircraft to airliners, carriers to missiles, and eventually to the Apollo Mission project. Roger and Bessie opened an antique shop in La Mesilla, New Mexico in 1969 and became owner/operators of El Mirasol Picture Frames in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Clovis. Roger lived in Albuquerque since 1978 and will be missed by his daughter, Peggy Elliott and husband, Gene of Las Cruces; granddaughter, Dunri Breedon and husband, Dan of Chico ,California; grandson, Clay Elliott and wife, Minda of Moreno Valley, California; and much-adored great-grandchildren, Jacob and Annalysia Elliott and Garrett Breedon. Roger was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Wade, Genevieve Cook, Geraldine Berry, Delores Steortz, Gene Dietrick; and brothers, Charles, Kenneth and James. Cremation has taken place at his request. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The family thanks the outpatient and hospital nurses and caregivers of Presbyterian Hospice and Dr.James Liebmann for their compassionate care.
