Alloy -- Frank J. Alloy, 83, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, March 16, 2003. He is survived by his son, Joseph B. Alloy of Albuquerque; daughters, Angela Pickerel and husband, Gary of Albuquerque, Celeste T. Alloy of Portales, New Mexico; and grandson, Joseph Gibbons. He was a beloved husband, loving father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Baker -- Harold Knight was born in Temple, OK August 12, 1929. During his last days here, he was surrounded by his family. He left this world peacefully to be with Jesus March 15, 2003. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Zeb and Bertha Baker. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanette; brother, Ron and wife Celina of Albuquerque; daughters, Judy and husband, Lynn of Aztec, NM, Kathi and husband, Ron of Idaho, Eileen and husband, Bob of Albuquerque; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; niece, Debbie and precious cat, Belay. Harold moved to New Mexico at the age of 16 and has resided in Albuquerque since 1948. He worked for Sandia Auto Electric for 53 years. His quick-wit and sense of humor always brought smiles and laughter to his family. Harold's greatest joy was his family; he will be missed tremendously. Memorial Services will be held at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 4601 Juan Tabo NE, on Tuesday, March 17, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Lust officiating. Duran -- Floran M. Duran, a lifetime resident of Alameda in Albuquerque, was gracefully embraced by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 14, 2003, at the age of 78. Preceded in death by his mother and father Meliton and Nora Duran. He is survived by four daughters, Debbie Sandburg and husband Marc, Sandra Diaz, Elenor Key and husband Denny, and Sally Bryant and husband Larry; brothers, Romeo and wife Betty and Charlie Duran and wife Lillian; sisters, Lala Lucero, Ruth Santillanes and husband Elifas, Marcella Lucero and husband Placido, and Ocariz West and husband George; Sixteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion Post 118 and American Legion Post 69. He was founder of the Alameda Riders and President for 32 years until his retirement. His riding club participated in many parades in Albuquerque and around the state as well as participating in grande entries at the New Mexico State Fair and other rodeos. His club was the recipient of many trophies and awards through the years. He was very proud of his riding club and dedicated to its success. Friends may visit French Mortuary on Monday, March 17, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at French Mortuary. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. also at French Mortuary, with Pastors Ron Mansdoerfer and Marvin Capehart officiating. Pallbearers are Kevin Salazar, Julian Mares, Dominic Trujillo, Gregory Thompson, Alex Portillo, and Johnny Bryant. Eskew -- Pauline Eskew, 94, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1993, died Saturday, March 15, 2003. She is survived by her son, Paul Eskew Jr. and his wife, Lurlyne of Corrales, NM; 3 grandchildren, Paul Eskew, III and wife, Shelly, Robert Osborne and wife, Patrice and Katie A. Eskew; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Paul V. Eskew, Sr.; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters. She was a member of Corrales Seventh-day Adventist Church. Service will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Corrales Seventh-day Adventist Church, 20 Academy Dr, Corrales with Pastor Nehemias Basit, officiating. Reception to follow service in the Fellowship Hall. Gabaldon -- Mr. Gregory (Greg) Eugene Gabaldon Sr., 42, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico, formerly of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away on March 14, 2003 with his loving family at his side. Greg is survived by his beloved wife Christine Gabaldon; his children, Erika, Ashley, D'Ana, and Gregory Jr.; his mother, Mary Lou Gabaldon; his sisters, Elizabeth (Liz) Gabaldon and Dorothy Gabaldon; his brothers, Tom Gabaldon and wife Terri, Rick Gabaldon and girlfriend Josie Salazar, and Walter Gabaldon Sr. and wife Lisa; father in law Vick Luera and wife Rowena; sister in law, Corina Cook and husband Charles; brother in law, Adam Luera and wife Bliss; nieces and nephews, Christopher Gabaldon and wife Andrea, Joseph (Bert) Gabaldon and wife Natasha, Diana Gabaldon and husband David Sanchez Jr., Karen Martinez and husband Jack, Carol Gabaldon, Camille Rodriguez and husband Ray, Rick Jr. (Chachi), Greg Padilla, Walter Gabaldon Jr., Candace Gabaldon, Amber and Nikki Cooke; great nieces and nephews, Rachel, Chris Jr., Jazmine, Sarai, David Gregory I I I, Jazmine, Kristina, Katherine, Jazmine, Dominic, Marianna, and Alycia; his beloved Godchildren who he loved dearly, Joseph (Bert), and David Gregory I I I. Greg was preceeded in death by his father, Norbert (Bert) P. Gabaldon (1987). Greg was a member of the Catholic Church, a"PROUD" owner and operator of Gabaldon Mortuary, a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the New Mexico Funeral Service Association. He attended the University of New Mexico and the University of Albuquerque. He also attended the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science where he graduated and after successfully passing the National and State Boards became a licenced Funeral Service Practioner. Greg had a great love for the outdoors whether it was hunting up North or down South, going fishing with his family and buddies, or cruising on his motorcycle. Greg took his nieces and nephews under his wing and he loved them all dearly, and he was also a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Visitation was Sunday afternoon at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW, from 1:30pm until 2:00pm , a Rosary was recited at 2:00pm. Final Visitation will be Monday morning from 10:30am until 11:00am with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00am at the Church. Interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christopher Gabaldon, Joseph Gabaldon, Rick Gabaldon Jr., David Sanchez Jr., Walter Gabaldon Jr., Jack Martinez, Ray Rodriguez, and Greg Padilla. Jaramillo -- Antonio L. Jaramillo, 82, a resident of Bernalillo passed away Thursday in a local hospital. He is survived by eight daughters, Barbara Armijo and husband, Martin, of Pena Blanca, Lorraine Jaramillo of California, Margaret Jaramillo, Gloria Jaramillo, both of Bernalillo, Beatrice Jaramillo of Albuquerque, Stacy Louthan and husband, William, of Kansas, Jennifer Jaramillo of North Carolina, and Katherine Jaramillo of Bernalillo; three sons, David Jaramillo and wife, Ronda, of Albuquerque, Fernando Jaramillo, and Randy Jaramillo, both of Bernalillo. Also surviving is one sister Edwina Jaramillo of Albuquerque; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited Monday evening at 7:30 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. also at the Church. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Fabian Jaramillo, Ronnie Belleau, Tony Tapia, Julian Garcia, Anthony Everage, and Martin Armijo. Landis -- W. Calvin Landis, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1935, died Friday, March 14, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Bessie Mae Landis of Albuquerque; sons, Calvin Landis of Martinez, CA, Dr. Kerby Landis of Walnut Creek, CA and Troy Pults and wife, Phyllis of Yukon, OK; daughters, Donna K. Clayton of Glendale, AZ, and Reba Renner of Bremerton, WA; sister, Bessie L. Johnson of Albuquerque; brother, John B. Landis of Sacramento, CA; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Mr. Landis was born on a homestead ranch in Fields, NM Territory, which is 35 miles NW of Clovis. He traveled by covered wagon to Clovis three or four times a year to buy staples. He moved closer to Clovis and finished school there in 1931. Mr. Landis was a manager of Safeway stores before the war and worked as a railroad brakeman and conductor in Belen, NM, during the war years. He was an earthmoving contractor since 1966 retiring when he was 86 years old. Mr. Landis was a founding member of FFA of America and longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church having served in various offices in the church. Mitchell -- Nicholas James"Nick" Mitchell passed away on Monday, February 3, 2003 in Fresno, CA at the age of 79. Nick was born on June 19, 1923 in Terre Haute, IN. His father, James Metsopolos of Argos, Greece and his mother, Efthemeia Pappas of Sparta, Greece were immigrants to the United States and settled in Indiana. Nicholas served his country in Troop C, 38th Calvary Reconnaissance Squad in World War II, in the French Campaign, where he was wounded. He received a Purple Heart, a Battle Star, and an Eastern Theatre Ribbon for his service. Nick and family moved to Albuquerque in 1952 where he worked for the Civil Service at Kirtland Air Force Base until he retired in 1990. Nicholas and wife, Joan moved to Fresno, CA in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Joan Mitchell of Coarse Gold, CA; son, Robert Mitchell and wife, Judith of Rio Rancho, NM; daughter, Carolyn Bent of Rio Rancho, NM; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials Services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. till noon at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 308 High Street, SE, Albuquerque, NM. Romero -- J. Mike, 91, a long-time New Mexico educator, passed away at his home in Albuquerque. Mike is survived by his wife of 62 years, Celia Griego Romero. Born in El Valle, NM, a village in the Las Trampas Land Grant, he came to Albuquerque to attend Menaul School when he was 12. After graduating from Menaul High School in 1932, he attended the University of New Mexico, graduating with a degree in Education in 1938. He continued his education at the University of Southern California and Highlands University, where he earned a Masters Degree in Education Administration. Mike began his teaching career in his home village of El Valle at the one-room school. During World War II, the U.S. War Food Administration hired him to set up and operate Mexican form labor camps in Idaho and the Northwest. He stayed in Idaho for five years after the war, working for the Census Bureau and later for the Idaho Growers Association. Mike returned to New Mexico and to his career in education in 1950. During his 35-year career as a teacher and administrator, he taught at La Joya High School and Belen Junior High and served as Principal at Pecos High School, Cuba High School and Los Lunas Junior High School. He also served as Director of Instruction for the West Las Vegas School System. He retired from the Los Lunas Public Schools in 1977. Active in civic affairs, Mike was a member of the National Education Association, The Los Lunas Retired Teachers Association, The March of Dimes, and the Lions Club, serving as President of the Los Lunas Club. Ever grateful to Menaul for the opportunities the school opened for him, he was an active member of the Menaul Alumni Association and loyal supporter of the school. Mike is survived by his wife, Celia Griego Romero, and their four children; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Surviving children are Leo M. Romero and wife, Robin of Albuquerque, Patricia Romero of Laguna Beach, CA, Nancy Romero of Albuquerque, and Ray Romero and wife, Rosie of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren are L. Michael Romero and wife, Gauri of Boston, Gregory A. Romero and wife, Iliana of Los Angeles, CA, Melissa Cova of Maui, HI; Nick Cova of Berkeley, CA, Bianca Romero of Mt. Holyoke College, MA, and Paloma Romero of San Antonio, TX; great-grandchild, Ariela Sofia Romero of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by his sisters, Cande Aguilar of El Valle, Corde Aguilar and husband, Abe of Penasco; and brother, Celestino Romero and wife, Dulcie of Taos. Mike was preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. Porfirio Romero of Taos and Nelson Romero of Silver City; and parents, Amador and Leonardita Romero of El Valle. Prayer meeting will be held Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 20, at 2:00 p.m., at Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith NE, corner of Lomas and Edith NE.
