Urban -- Patrick James Urban, MD, 39, a resident of Albuquerque, died on March 14, 2003, while climbing in the vicinity of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. He is survived by his wife, Denise Coleman, MD; daughters, Samantha 4, and Jessica 2; his parents, Jim and Roberta"Robbi"; sisters, Betsy and Holly; and brother, Scott. He was born in Deols, France and grew up in Denver, Colorado. He attended Cherry Creek High School and graduated from the University of Colorado and the St Louis University Medical School. He completed his residency at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in 1993, at which time he joined as an obstetrician and gynecologist the Women's Specialists of New Mexico. He was President of the New Mexico Chapter of the American College of Gynecology. Pat had a passion for mountaineering. In spring 2001 he achieved a lifelong goal of climbing the 54 highest peaks in Colorado; in December 2002, he summitted Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa. Pat will be remembered for his good humor, appreciation for good wine and his zest for life. He lived his life to the fullest and was always ready for the next adventure. At the end of every climb he would say,"That was great!! Now I want to go home and see my (three) girls!" He was approximately 3 hours into his all-day trek, and attempting his second peak when he was overcome by an avalanche. His body was recovered by Banff Park wardens the following day under 2.5 meters of snow. Services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. at the Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Rd., NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to the Rio Grande Division of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2021 Girard SE.
