ABOUSLEMAN -- Thomas M. Abousleman, age 90, a lifelong resident of Jemez Springs, NM, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2009, 39 days short of his 91st birthday. He was a World War II veteran, a rancher, a home-builder and together with his brothers, the original owners of the Los Ojos bar in Jemez Springs. Tom loved to fly fish, collect old guns and gamble at the casinos. Born to Moses and Edna Abousleman, Tom was the youngest of eight children. Tom is survived by nieces Marian Sotel, Connie Ryan, and husband Jack, Sharon Ryan, Ann Marie Rolfes, and Helen Flower; nephews Freddie Abousleman and wife Debbie, Greg Ryan and wife Andrea, David Ryan, Johnnie Merhege and wife Ida, and Billy Merhege and wife Barbara; sister-in-law Margaret Abousleman and many loving friends who live in Jemez Springs and the Albuquerque area. Tom bragged that he was born in the same house he lived in. A Rosary will be recited at Mary, Mother of Priests Catholic Church in Jemez Springs, NM on September 3, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on September 4, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in Jemez Springs at Mary, Mother of Priests Catholic Church with Fr. ALEXANDER -- Michael " Mickey " Frank Alexander, 41, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Beverly; his children, daughter Ashley Kay and son, Travis Michael Alexander; his mom, Arlene Williams and his stepdad, Roy Williams; five brothers and sisters, Jenny Blair and husband Floyd, Bob Alexander and wife Lynn, Tom Alexander and wife Betty, Penny Cherry, and Danny Alexander and wife Le Ann; four step brothers and sisters, Linda, Mark, Lynn, and Lane; father -in-law Manuel F. Gonsalves, who they called "poppy" ; his brother -in- law, David Sanchez and wife Cindy; sister -in- law, Adline Leard and husband Ken; numerous nieces and nephews along with friends and family members from Washington, California, Nebraska, Tennessee, Oregon, and Alaska. He was born and raised in Edgewood, NM and attended Moriarity High School. Michael had a great love for flying. His career as an Aviation Technician began when he entered the United States Navy in 1985. Following his Navy service he worked for Goodrich Corporation in Everett, Washington and continuing his career at Eclipse Aviation in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Michael also had a great love for sports, especially baseball, his favorite team was the Seattle Mariners. He enjoyed watching football with his cousin Walter Sandoval. During the last few months he enjoyed keeping in touch with his family and friends via text messaging, even teaching his mother how so he could be in touch with her. Mickey loved spending time joking around with his nieces and nephews, they all loved him dearly. Michael and Bev enjoyed spending time and traveling with Walter and Louise Sandoval. His siblings, friends and family will always hold fond memories of the times spent with Mickey. BOGAROSH -- Peter Leonard passed away at his home in Albuquerque, NM on August 30, 2009. He was born in Bath, PA on January 2, 1921 and raised in Phillipsburg, NJ where he graduated from high school and was a star athlete. He went on to graduate with a pharmacy degree from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Sciences and received a Master's Degree in Pharmacology from Purdue University in Lafayette, IN. It was there that he met Novella McGlothlin and they married on September 3, 1947. They raised 2 children - son, Chris, and daughter, Barbara Ann. Peter taught Pharmacology at the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY and at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA before joining the U.S. Public Health Service in 1955. Over the years the family lived in Aberdeen, SD, Albuquerque, NM and Norman, OK as Peter rose to a rank of Captain (USN). In 1969 Peter left the Indian Health Service and joined the Food and Drug Administration in Rockville, MD until his retirement in 1981 and subsequent move back to Albuquerque. Peter is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Novella Bogarosh, and by his sister, Catherine Ballard of Colorado Springs, CO. He is survived by his son, Chris Bogarosh and his wife, Lorna, of Spokane, his daughter, Barbara Ann Boga-Rosh of Middletown, MD, and his four grandchildren, Nichole Bogarosh of Norman, OK, Tyler, Brad, and Spencer Bogarosh, all of Spokane, WA. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 4, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. at French Mortuary Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. HAMILTON -- Gordon Lee Hamilton, 68, born in Fort Wayne, IN, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009, after a long valiant battle with different illnesses stemming from diabetes. He lived in Albuquerque since 1980 with his wife of 44 years, Judy Ann Hamilton; his daughter, Jennifer Novicki and husband, Thomas; son, Michael Hamilton and wife, Lori; and five beautiful grandchildren, Thomas and Joseph Novicki and Mike, Alyssa and Aaron Hamilton. He is also survived by his sister, Paula Hope of Flagstaff, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Margaret Hamilton. Gordon was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather. He will always be remembered for his incredible sense of humor, laughter and his love for others. HATCH -- Sean Eugene Hatch, 36, of Avondale, AZ died after a long illness on August 28, 2009, at Promise Hospital in Phoenix AZ. Sean was born January 15, 1973, in Albuquerque, NM, to Teresha and Rodney Hatch II. He graduated from Belen High School and later attended New Mexico Tech where he received Bachelor degrees in Mathematics and Physics in 1995. He went on to receive a Masters in Mathematics in 1996. Sean achieved a 4.0 GPA throughout his academic years. Sean was employed by Lockheed Martin in Goodyear, AZ as a Research Scientist. Sean enjoyed reading technical books, solving impossible math problems and playing with the latest electronic gadgets. Sean could also be found shooting and hiking with his friends from work. Sean will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Tamara Hernandez; two sons Allan Sebastian, age 4 and Evan Vincent, age 2; his parents Teresha and Rodney Hatch II of Belen, NM; his sister Darhla (Hatch) Gilson, brother-in-law James and their children Joseph and Virginia of Albuquerque, NM; and his grandparents June and Rodney Hatch, Sr. of Albuquerque, NM. Martin was preceded in death by his sons, Oliver Martinez, David Martinez; and wife Lena. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Garcia and husband Jr., Cruzita Gonzales and husband Joe, Perta Martinez and husband Perfecto and Libby Martinez; sons, Johnny Martinez and wife Cynthia, Joe Martinez and wife Mary, Dragon Martinez, Michael Martinez and wife Michelle and Jessie Martinez; brother, Simon Martinez; grandchildren, Angel Martinez and Frankie Romero who loved him very much and will miss him dearly; 36 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. MARTINEZ -- Mercie S. Martinez, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2009 surrounded by his family. Mr. Martinez was a veteran of the US Army and served during World War II. He was also a sales manager for Montgomery Wards for 30 years. Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Marie Martinez. He is survived by his children, Leonard Martinez, Martin Martinez and wife, Victoria, and Evelyn Vasquez and husband, Donald; grandchildren, Teresa Martinez, Sean Martinez, Sheyenne Martinez and Angelica Vasquez; great-grandson, Isaiah Jospeh Martinez; sister, Betty Castro; and many nieces and nephews. ONEAL -- Peggy Oneal, age 61, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away on August 30, 2009. Peggy graduated in 1966 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and eventually married her high school sweetheart, John. Her life was light and bright and she was a world traveler and had her very own DooWop band. Peggy celebrated her life and loved her cats, memorabilia and music from the 50's. OVERHOLSER -- Elyzabeth Moore Overholser, age 48, passed away suddenly August 28, 2009. PEDERSON -- Richard ("Dick") Pederson, a life long resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 30, 2009. He was born to Clarence E. Pederson and Mary Katherine Suffolk Pederson on March 1, 1930. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1947 and attended the University of Colorado and the University of New Mexico. He enlisted in the Army during the Korean conflict, attended OCS and was commissioned in Ordnance Corps in 1952. He owned and managed Pete's Safety Lane until retirement in 1983. As a young man Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was active in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, serving as exalted ruler in 1967-1968. He was the current chairman of the 1947 Albuquerque High School Reunion Committee and a member of American Legion Post 49. He also was a member of the Chaparral Motor Home Club and enjoyed traveling throughout the country. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sue Mullings Pederson; one daughter Lea O'Hanlan and husband Edward (Ted) O'Hanlan; one grandson Edward (Teddy) O'Hanlan; one niece; two nephews; and many cousins. A Memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution NE, on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church. RANDOLPH -- Jacqueline Randolph, 72, affectionally known as "Spook", born on October 30, 1936, passed from this life quietly and peacefully in her sleep at home on August 19, 2009. She is surived by her husband of 50 years, William Randolph, Jr.; her children, Leslee Randolph (Steve Corenblith) and William Randolph III (Sara) and her grandchildren, Caitlin, Elisabeth, Alyssa and JacLyn; her sister Lesley Sudders (Eduardo Cervino); her nieces, nephews and their children; also numerous beloved friends. SAMPSON -- Lucille C. Sampson The Spirit of Lucille Sampson departed from this earth on August 19, 2009. Lucille was a life long resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico and was born in Des Moines, New Mexico on November 13, 1914. She was married to James C. Sampson who died in 1981. Lucille is survived by her son Jim Sampson and wife Jan of Albuquerque; and two granddaughters, Sarah Holder and husband Jim of Englewood, Colorado and Catherine Brannon and husband Wes of Albuquerque. Lucille attended and graduated from New Mexico Normal University/New Mexico Highlands where she received her B.A. and Master degrees. She retired from New Mexico Highlands in 1977 where she taught in the Business Education Department and touched the lives of a large number of students including many current and retired high school business teachers. She participated in Senior Olympics and other outdoor activities. She loved the view of the mountains, the view of the valley from the top of the mountain, the rain, the snow, clouds, and flowers. She always had a smile and spread sunshine wherever she was. A Memorial Service of Remembrance will be held on September 5, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge situated 518 Douglas Avenue in Las Vegas, New Mexico with Owen Young officiating. SKENDER -- Antonio Skender Looking back on the memory of the dance we shared beneath the stars above, how could I'd know that you'd ever say goodbye; and now I'm glad I didn't know the way it all would end, the way it all would go, our lives are better left to chance. I could have missed the pain but I'd have had to miss the dance. Our beloved father, Antonio Skender, born January 13, 1928, passed away on August 28, 2009. He was born of good parents, Matt and Anna Skender. The baby of ten children. He lived in Dawson, NM for most of his childhood and teenage years. He also served in the Air Force in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Romayne Skender. She was the love of his life. He always said that the day she died, he died too. He is survived by his three children, James Anthony Skender, Beverly Goetz and her husband Lanny, and Gloria Swap; his five beautiful grandchildren, Arrie Martinez and husband Andrew, Danielle Goetz, Melissa Swapp and husband Daniel Brittain, Alan Swapp, Jon Goetz, and Sara Jesah Romero; two great-grandchildren, Traiton Brittain and Jon Romero Goetz; one brother Mike Skender and his wife Jane; one sister, Mary Ann Brandolino; three nieces, Carol and Cheryl and Geri; and two nephews, Kenny Corraza and Dennis Brandolino. He was truly one of the last of those who could fix anything, if he couldn't fix it, it wasn't broken. He will be missed greatly by all those who knew and loved him. God be with him till we meet again. SMITH -- Alice M. Smith, 66, of Albuquerque, N.M. passed away 23 August 2009. Alice was born 20 July 1943 in Grandville, NY. She was married on 29 September 1967 to George Smith who awaits her in their resting place of Wells, Vt. Alice was survived by her four children, Marc, Matt, Meredith and Marcy; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In her memory, there will be an informal outdoor gathering at Heritage Hills Park, on Ventura, north of Academy, on September 6, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. A funeral will be held in Wells, Vt. on 17 October 2009. Alice has asked that instead of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in her name.

SMITH -- Marilyn Miller Smith, age 71, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2009 in Albuquerque. She was born to Leonard and Madell Combs in Tulsa, OK. Marilyn graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1955, where she was elected Band Queen. After graduating from the University of Denver in 1961, Marilyn moved to Kansas City, where she taught elementary and middle school for thirty-five years. Marilyn was also a United States Figure Skating Assoc. Judge. She fell in love with and married her sweetheart, J. Richard Smith in 1964. Marilyn and her husband enjoyed extensive travel throughout their lives including trips to Italy and Alaska. In 2003, they moved Albuquerque to be closer to family. Marilyn is survived by her three children, one son, John Richard Smith and wife, Traci of Denver, CO; two daughters, Stacey Lynn Baumgartner and husband, Bert of Albuquerque, and Mary Melinda Dasta and husband, John of Kansas City, MO; two grandchildren, Jesse Ryan Smith, and Sophia Raquel Smith. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, J. Richard Smith. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., at French ~Wyoming Chapel. STEFFEN -- Mary Louise (Kingery) Steffen, age 54, born December 11, 1954 passed away August 30, 2009 after suffering and battling a longtime illness. She was a fighter till the end. TINNIN -- Walter Harry "Kay" Tinnin Graveside Services with full military rites for Walter Harry "Kay" Tinnin, 81 year old Zuni, New Mexico man who passed away peacefully Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo, Wyoming while staying with his son and daughter-in-law in Kaycee will be held Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be held Friday September 4, 2009 at the Berardinelli Funeral Home in Santa Fe from 9:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. Memorial services will be held at the Christian Reform Church in Zuni, New Mexico on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 11:00 am. The family requests donations to the New Mexico Senior Olympics in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 North Adams Avenue, Buffalo, Wyoming 82834. Born December 10, 1927, in Durango, Colorado, Kay was the son of Vernon Basil Tinnin and Charline Leah Turner. Just a few years later Charline Turner Tinnin married Levin Lewis Charles and it was he who Kay called "Dad". Due to the depression the family moved often to find work living in Durango, Wolf Creek (Summitville Mine), Alamosa, Crestone, Bonanza, and Salida, all in Colorado. They also lived in Death Valley, CA. (Kean Wonder Mine), Farmington, NM., and Gallup, NM. In 1944 he quit high school, lied about his age, and joined the Navy. He had an uncle, Frank Turner, who was being held prisoner on Bataan and he told people when he left, he was going to help rescue Uncle Frank. He served his country in the Navy as a cook and spent time in Saipan and China and was discharged on 6 December 1948. He then served in the Naval Reserve until 31 Oct 1953. Finally, in Zuni during May 2004, he along with 39 other WWII veterans, were recognized for their service by being awarded honorary high school diplomas. On April 17, 1950 he married Dorothy Ellen Carrell in Alamosa, Colorado and then moved to Zuni, New Mexico where he worked in the Vanderwagen Brothers Trading Post (currently called Halona Plaza). From Jan 1951 through Apr 1956, four children were born. Later in his life, he successfully bought and sold Zuni jewelry. After two by-pass surgeries and one heart attack, he retired from the jewelry business and spent his time with his many friends doing a multitude of things from playing pool, helping nearby ranchers, skiing, participating in Senior Olympics and wellness walks as well as once being named the Grand Marshal of the Zuni Parade. He joked that he got that honor because he was the oldest mel'i-ca (white) in the village. He is survived by Dorothy Tinnin of Tucson, AZ; Lou Enote of Zuni, NM; one sister Charline Levin Husted(Robert) of Volcano, CA; one son John Tinnin(Jeanne) of Kaycee, WY; three daughters, Coleen Mailliard (Bryan) of Phoenix, AZ, Patti Smith (Rick) of Albuquerque, NM, Lee Ann Tinnin of Tucson, AZ; Jennifer Enote Becker (William) of Zuni, N.M. and Loesa Weebothee (Mike) of Zuni, N.M. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Jerad Tinnin, Heather Tinnin Carrillo, Tanya Ortega De-Chamberlin, Shannon Shane Ortega, Janelle Ortega Garcia, Aaron Smith, Kay Lynn Smith Shinn, Kyle Smith, Carl Lee Craig, Christopher Glen Craig, and six great-grandchildren, Mary Grace Ortega, Maximillian Ortega, Clark Issac Oretga , Katharine Garcia-Ortega, Teresa Coleen Garcia-Ortega, Aiden Smith, Chloe Smith, Ashton Shinn and Shaylee A.Craig, as well as many friends and neighbors. VALLEJOS -- Gilbert Joe Vallejos, 86, a resident of Los Lunas since 1997, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evangelia Vallejos; grandson, Andrew Vallejos; two brothers; and one sister. He is survived by his children, Corrina Vallejos, Alvin Vallejos and wife, Betty Ann, Sylvia Sanchez and husband, Elias Sanchez, and Jerry Vallejos and wife, Pamela Vallejos; eight loving grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five brothers; four sisters; and many other loving family members and friends. Toward the end of his life he was cared for by his granddaughter Nicole Santiago and her husband, Martin Santiago. During his life Mr. Vallejos owned a service station in Albuquerque and also retired from Blake's Lotaburger after 19 years of service. He also worked with the Santa Fe Railroad as well as a school bus operator. In his free time Mr. Vallejos loved the outdoors spending time hunting, fishing, and camping. Throughout his life he was a great friend and loving family member to many, he will be greatly missed. A rosary will be held Thursday, September 3, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW. WARWICK -- James Richard "Rick" Warwick, affectionately known as Pops, passed away at home on August 31, 2009, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 62, after a prolonged illness. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on April 8, 1947. Rick led a rich life, enjoying and keeping lifelong friendships, exploring the great Southwest with family, and sharing Goofy with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lois J. Warwick, a Manzano classmate discovered 14 years after graduation; mother and stepfather, Cassie and Bobby Emerson; sister, Cassie (Bunnie) Reese; children, Staci Dailey and Pearce Warwick; five grandchildren, Chance, Austin, Logan, Ariana, and Brody; Maureen Warwick , mother of grandson, Brody and wife of Karl Coomler; two brothers-in-law and their families, David and Scott Sorenson; three nieces and their families, Denise Elizabeth and Aimee. He was preceded in death by his father, James E. Warwick and father-in-law, Karl D. Sorenson. Rick was a member of the Northeast Church of Christ and felt the love and support of his church family through struggles and successes. He served in the United States Air Force, and the FAA as an air traffic controller. As well, Rick was a journeyman pressman at the Albuquerque Journal, and sales manager for Territorial Roofing. He was a fan of watching NASCAR and sporting events whether it was his son playing or the professionals (GO Packers !). Rick enjoyed monthly get-togethers with graduates from the Manzano Class of 1965 and helped in planning reunions, reminiscing with Air Force buddies, Rich, Tom (Moose), and C.E, and other fellow air traffic controllers, working at the Professional Women Controllers Training Conferences with Lois, and building a family with his brothers and sisters in Christ. He did not realize the impact he had to nurture and support others. As many know, Rick could spin a yarn, pull your leg, and keep you laughing. If you believed him, the joke was on you and he loved it! A Memorial Service will be held at the Northeast Church of Christ, 11000 Paseo Del Norte, on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with US Air Force Honors. WINCH -- William (Bill) Winch passed away on Monday, August 31, 2009 at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mabel of over 50 years. Bill's survivors include his son Christopher Winch and wife Jill; daughter Kathleen Johnson and partner John Douglas; three grandsons, Christopher Johnson and wife Nita, Ryan Winch and Tyler Winch. Born in Cleveland, OH. Bill raised his family with Mabel on Long Island, NY. In 1971, intrigued by the beauty of the landscape, Bill moved his family to Tijeras, NM where he pursued his love of horses, skiing and music. He retired after 20 years with New York Life and traveled the world with Mabel. Bill was a man of integrity and will be missed by all that knew him. Per his request, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 1 p.m. friends and family are invited to share memories at the family home.
