BENNETT -- Elizabeth Bennet, formerly of East Chicago, Indiana, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Chesapeake General Hospital in Chesapeake, VA. Survived by 12 children; Jerry (Donna) Bennett of Harbor City, California; James Bennett and Frances B. Beverly of East Chicago, IN; Dolores (Reuben) El and Carolyn (Solomon) Stewart of Milwaukee, WI; W. Charles Bennett and Patricia Taylor of Albuquerque, NM; Gladys Bennett of Chesapeake, VA,; Eddie Bennett of Robinson, IL; Dwight (Shonkia) Bennett and Carl (Janet) Bennett of Atlanta, GA; Shiloh Bennett of Huber Heights, OH; 27 grandchildren, 16 great-grand children; and one brother, Sam Hunt, of Auburn, AL. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 1:00 p. m. at the Antioch Baptist Church, 3902-06 Alexander Avenue, East Chicago, Indiana with Bishop David C. Cooper of Albuquerque, New Mexico officiating. Internment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park, Hobart, IN. The Visitation will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Antioch Baptist Church from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. A special Memorial Service will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church, at the corner of Indian School and Pennsylvania NE in Albuquerque on Sunday evening, March 2, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. Mrs. Bennett was always actively involved in serving her community. In 1979, she was recognized as one of Lake County, Indiana's Most Valuable Women for providing over 10 years of dedicated service to the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Program. She has volunteered for over 30 years with the United Way and has received numerous community service and civic awards. Other community involvement includes: Project Uplift of the Urban League of Northwest Indiana; Leader of a 4-H club in East Chicago; Director of an East Chicago Campfire Boys and Girls Program; Health Fair New Mexico; 10 years with "Prime Time," a Bernalillo County, New Mexico Organization. Mrs. Bennett moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1985 and was an active member of the Mission; Bible class and Sunday school; and a faithful visitor of the Church's sick and shut-in members at New Hope Baptist Church. She served her community through her active membership in the National Council of Negro Women. She was honored as the Albuquerque Journal's Mother of the Year in 2006 on Mothers Day. DEES -- Barbara J. Dees, 70, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, February, 24, 2008. Born December 15, 1937 to Opal and Mae Hobgood in Evansville, IN, Barbara moved to Albuquerque in 1968. She retired from US West after 38 years of service. She touched many lives with her small flower business designing flower arrangements for over 150 weddings and events. Barbara is survived by her husband of 39 years, Ralph; daughter, Cindy Dees; son Brian Dees; sister, Louise Oberhausen and many nieces and nephews and wonderful family friends. FALLEN -- Lucille Fallen, age 76 life long resident of Albuquerque passed away Monday, February 25, 2008. She was born on December 5, 1931, in Albuquerque, NM to Earl D and Lila I Lee. After 37 years, Mrs. Fallen retired as Vice President from Westland Corp. of Albuquerque, NM. She continued as a consultant following her retirement in 1996. Mrs. Fallen was an avid UNM Lobo fan and member of the Lobo Club. She attended every football and basketball game that she could. She played bridge at The Bear Canyon Senior Center and Four Hills. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, both at home and abroad. She was a current member of Central United Methodist Church of Albuquerque. Surviving are her daughters, Sharon L. Shaver and her husband, Pat of Woodburn, OR, Ann Marie, Esq. and her husband, Dr. Richard Hughes of Denver, CO; her son, Dr. Jim Fallen, DVM and his wife, Sandra of Albuquerque; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Twila Balentine and husband, Floyd, of Scottsdale, AZ; one niece and three nephews. GARCIA -- MICHAEL Mr. Michael Garcia, 84, a resident of Belen, New Mexico passed away on February 25, 2008 and is now in Heaven with Our Lord. GARCIA -- Michael S. Garcia passed away on February 24, 2008 at the age of 39. Michael was born on March 10, 1968 to Joe and Vivian Garcia. Michael is survived by his wife, Beverly Garcia, his parents Joe and Vivian Garcia, his two sons; Vincent Torrez and Anthony Garcia, his siblings; Art Garcia, Geraldine Herrera and husband, Eddie, Jennie Garcia and Carl Garcia; his grandmother, Rose Ray along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. GARCIA -- Reyes R. Garcia, 61, was a master carpenter. He loved to fish, he loved to dance and he cherished his grandchildren. He thought it was a good day if he made someone smile. He fought with the greatest courage to stay with us as long as he could, but the Lord called upon him on Saturday, February 23, 2008, to heal and restore him to eternal life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mela L. and Sisto G. Garcia, and his brother Sisto Jr. He is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Felix (Joe) Garcia, Edward (Margo) Garcia, Theresa Maes, Joann Corral, and their wonderful families. He was a beloved father and grandfather to his son, Reyes M. Garcia, whom he was so proud of, and his wife, Angela E. and their precious children, Alexandria Ruth, Cambree Marie, Abigayl Lacey, and Miryam Elizabeth. He was adored by his two beautiful daughters, (his girls) who loved and cared for him with all their heart, soul and mind, Christine P. Garcia and Michelle R. Garcia. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Rey Michael Gutierrez and by his niece, Maria Estrada, who lovingly called him "Grandpa". He leaves behind two very, very, special friends, his habitual partner in laughter, his sister-in-law and closest friend, Joella M. Apodaca, (his Selena) and his favorite longtime fishing partner, Neri Lovato. He loved so many other good friends and family members in his lifetime. He reached out to all that needed help without any request for payment in return. Until we all meet again in heaven, he will be missed greatly everyday for the rest of our lives. For those of you that visited Reyes in his last days, he greatly appreciated that you cared enough to come by and see how he was doing. The family thanks each and everyone for your support. It means so very much. GONZALES -- Joan M. Gonzales, 71, a resident of New Mexico for the past 45 years, died peacefully in her home with her family by her side. Joan was born December 21, 1936, the daughter of Roy and Bertha Duran Archuleta in Monte Vista, Colorado. Joan was preceded in death by her husband; Moe Gonzales in 1992; and her grandson, Adam Buzis-Sanchez, in 2006. A special thank you to her loving sister, Elizabeth, who took wonderful care of Joan. LUCERO -- Meraldo (Mel), age 74, of Alameda, NM passed away Saturday February 23, 2008 of Kidney Disease. He was born on June 8, 1933 in Alameda, NM. MILLER -- RUDOLPH G. MILLER A long time native of Santa Fe, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 23, 2008, with his wife, Priscilla, and his step children at his side in Flower Mound, Texas. Rudy was born on November 27, 1927 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Padilla Miller; father, George Miller and his youngest brother, Michael Miller. Rudy was a US Naval Veteran of World War II, and upon completion of his military service, he returned to Santa Fe where he embarked on a remarkable 34 year career in Law Enforcement. Rudy proudly served as a Santa Fe Police Officer from 1951 until his retirement as Assistant Chief of Police in 1970. In November of 1970 Rudy was appointed to the United States Marshals Service as a Deputy US Marshal. In September of 1974 Rudy graciously accepted the esteemed position of Chief of Police of Santa Fe, where he served honorably until his retirement in May of 1979. Rudy's crowning achievement was bestowed upon him by the late President Ronald Reagan, who appointed Rudy to the prestigious position of United States Marshal for New Mexico on March 9, 1982. Rudy's final position as US Marshal closed his decorated career in Law Enforcement. Rudy was married to the late Alice Manzanares Miller of Abiqui, New Mexico and has four children: Dennis Miller and wife Glenda, Floyd Miller and wife Roberta, Rudy Miller Jr., and Tessie Townsend. Rudy is survived by his sister, Ramona Lynn; brother, Ralph Miller and wife Celine, brother, George Miller and wife Barbara; and sister, Madelyn Ortiz and husband Albert. Rudy chose to move to Flower Mound, Texas 4 years ago where he enjoyed his golden years surrounded by his loving wife, Priscilla Miller and step children, Michael Aguirre and wife, Veronica, and Natalie Alvarado and husband, Robert. In addition, Rudy will be missed by his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. NICHOLSON -- Clinton "Clint" Stewart Nicholson, 84, a resident of Albuquerque met the Lord on Sunday, February 24, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margo Nicholson of Albuquerque; daughters, Colby Stuart of the Netherlands and Cynthia Nicholson of Albuquerque; grandson, Joshua Chandler and great-grandson, Dante Chandler. Clint was born on December 24, 1923 in Lonna Conning, MD. He served in the United Stated Navy aboard the USS Hornet. Clint was an accomplished musician. Clint and Margo were married in San Francisco on March 24, 1947. They resided in Honolulu for two years and returned to Bryn Mawr, PA where they started their family. He was a Past Master of the Mount Lebanon Lodge #226 in Lebanon, PA. Upon arrival to New Mexico, he joined the Ballut Abyad and played with the Temple Band. A Memorial service will be celebrated in Clint's honor on Saturday, March 1, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. NILES -- Page M. Niles, of Albuquerque, age 90 years, died on February 20, 2008 at Haven Care, after a short illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Colonel Ellery W. Niles, U.S. Army, retired. Page attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts, later completing her degree at the University of New Mexico, and was an avid reader, enthusiastic traveler, and talented artist. She was a loving mother to David Niles and his wife, Sophie, of Landenburg, PA., Judith Maxon and her husband, Ronald, of Bedford, MA., Mary Sebring and her husband, James, of Albuquerque, NM, Thomas Niles of Albuquerque, NM, and Barbara Niles of Fairbanks, AK. She is also survived by her five grandchildren; David Maxon, Jennifer Kennelly, Laura Stewart, Page van der Linden, and Thomas Sebring; as well as five great-grandchildren. A private Family Graveside Ceremony will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. O'DONNELL -- Shirley M. age 72, of Albuquerque, NM passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008, at her residence following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born on March 18, 1935, in Butler County, PA to Russell and Helen Moore. She married Charles W. O'Donnell on September 13, 1955 in Cumberland, Maryland. Mrs. O'Donnell was a member of Compassionate Friends of Albuquerque as well as a participant in The Infinite Way for several years. OLSON -- Doris A. Olson, born February 22, 1931, passed away February 24, 2008. Dorie was born in Philip, South Dakota; her family moved to Bremerton, Washington where she graduated from high school and met the love of her life, Delfred Olson. Dorie spent the next 60 years raising five children and helping family and friends whenever they needed it. She had been a realtor, a beader, and a housing re-designer, as she & Del moved often, remodeling each house before moving on to the next one. Dorie enjoyed making contributions to the local casinos, traveling across the US and abroad, and spending time with Del, their family and friends. Dorie was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Delfred M. Olson. She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Espinosa and twins, Gail Drane and Gwen Pullen; son, Larry and wife, Cindy; four grandsons, JJ Espinosa and wife, Trenna, Jaime Espinosa, Bryan Pullen, and Matthew Pullen; two granddaughters, Heather Garza and husband, Mario, and Ashley Meddens and husband, Bennie; and four great grandchildren, Emilia, Devin, Aurora and Nicolas. She is also survived by a sister, Mae Schmidt, of Galt, California. A memorial service, with reception following, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, at the Albuquerque Center for Spiritual Living, 2801 Louisiana NE. OROSCO -- AUGUSTINE (Gus) T. Orosco, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on February 24, 2008, and is now in Heaven with Our Lord. Gus is survived by the love of his life, "His Gina"; and is also survived by his sister, Cruzita Armijo; his nephew, Ted Armijo and many close friends. Gus was a member of the Catholic Church, a Veteran of the United States Army serving in World War I I, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, he was a recipient of Two Purple Hearts, a recipient of the Metal of Honor, a life long member of the D.A.V. Chapter #3, life long member of Purple Heart and a life long member of the American Legion Post #13. PARRA -- Dr. James E. Parra, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2008. He was born June 5, 1958 in Santa Fe, NM. James graduated from Marquette University and attended Medical School at the University of New Mexico. At the time of his passing he was practicing general surgery at Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, NM. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and dogs. James loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, music and his ATV. PATTERSON -- Marcia C. Patterson, 74, loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother returned to the Lord on February 23, 2008 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Marcia born August 22, 1933 to Helen and Quentin Christopher in Eldora, Iowa. She graduated from Simpson College in 1955 and married Edward (Pat) Patterson on June 10, 1955. Marcia touched the lives of hundreds of youth in her 40 years of teaching and coaching in Iowa, Illinois, California, New Mexico (St. Pius X High School) and Texas. Marcia was especially fond of her years at Austin High School in El Paso where she led the girl's basketball team to a 18-0 district record in 1988-1989 and was named the El Paso Times Coach of the Year. She was a member of the Rebecca Stoddert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed antiquing, arts and crafts, and spending time with friends. Marcia always felt that her greatest joys and accomplishments was loving and raising her three children and watching her children and grandchildren grow through the years. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years and the "love of her life" Edward Patterson of Santa Teresa, NM; son, Scott of Golden. CO; daughter, Linda (Dirck) Shreveport, LA; son, Kirk (Carmen)of El Paso, TX. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Shauna and Lacey of Littleton, CO, Elizabeth and Philip of Shreveport LA and Jennie and Joshua of El Paso, TX and one great-grandson, Banning of Littleton, CO. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Christopher of Scottsdale, AZ and cousin, John Eckstein (Imogene) of Iowa City, Iowa. The family would like to thank the many friends and relatives who supported them with cards, calls, meals and their love and prayers. SANCHEZ -- Joe C. Sanchez, age 86, was born November 25, 1921 in Minatare, Nebraska. He passed away peacefully on Monday, February 25, 2008 in Albuquerque at the family home. Joe honorably served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was wounded in the Normandy Invasion and received the Purple Heart. Joe was also a lifetime member of the DAV. He was preceded in death by his son, Joey; one brother and four sisters. SAYLOR -- Elizabeth "Betty" Saylor, 76, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County, passed away on February 23, 2008 with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Saylor was born on February 11, 1932 to Luther "Tex" and Asela (Gradi) Mills of Albuquerque, NM. She attended Los Ranchos Grade School, St. Vincent Academy, Washington Jr. High School, and Albuquerque High. She worked as an Inspector for the Levi-Strauss Factory that was located on Aztec Road. Betty was very talented and her ceramic creations could be found at the 4th Street Ceramics. She was a member of San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. Mrs. Saylor is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Stephen L. Saylor. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gilbert Saylor, Jr., of the family home; her children, Dave Saylor and his wife, Christine, of Bloomfield, NM, Loretta A. Buffalow and her husband, Johnny, and Roxanne Robustelli, all of Los Lunas, NM; grandchildren, Jessica and David Saylor, Jenny Gonzales, J.B. STANKE -- CAROL LOUISE KIRK STANKE February 28, 1921- February 22, 2008. As a young girl, Carol could be seen roller-skating through the streets of her hometown, Albuquerque. She moved to Gallup with her family, graduating from Gallup High School, and went on to become a sister of Alpha Chi Omega at UNM. Carol and her husband, Edward Stanke, made their home in Santa Fe, where she was actively involved in the community: President of the Junior Women's Club, Eastern Star, PEO, St. Vincent's Auxiliary, Open Hands, St. Elizabeth's Kitchen, Bowling Club, Sewing Club, and Bridge Club. A loving mother of four boys, she served the Boy Scouts of America for over 10 years. Carol was a founding member and dedicated volunteer at St. Bede's Episcopal Church. In her spare time, she worked as a book keeper and bank teller. Carol maintained her wonderful sense of humor and social graces throughout the last years of her life after returning to Albuquerque. She will be remembered for the love and friendship she showed everyone she touched with her life. Ed preceded Carol in death by 16 years. She is survived by her four sons, Edward Charles II and his wife, Barbara of California, John and his wife, Linda of Santa Fe, Jay and his wife, Cathy of Albuquerque, Guy of Santa Fe; ten grandchildren. VELARDE -- Mary Sena Velarde, age 81, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2008 in Albuquerque, NM. Mary was born in Fort Sumner, NM on January 31, 1927 to Mr. and Mrs. Pedro Sena of Fort Sumner.
