Obituary for GARCIA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday February 27, 2008

Reyes R. Garcia, 61, was a master carpenter. He loved to fish, he loved to dance and he cherished his grandchildren. He thought it was a good day if he made someone smile. He fought with the greatest courage to stay with us as long as he could, but the Lord called upon him on Saturday, February 23, 2008, to heal and restore him to eternal life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mela L. and Sisto G. Garcia, and his brother Sisto Jr. He is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Felix (Joe) Garcia, Edward (Margo) Garcia, Theresa Maes, Joann Corral, and their wonderful families. He was a beloved father and grandfather to his son, Reyes M. Garcia, whom he was so proud of, and his wife, Angela E. and their precious children, Alexandria Ruth, Cambree Marie, Abigayl Lacey, and Miryam Elizabeth. He was adored by his two beautiful daughters, (his girls) who loved and cared for him with all their heart, soul and mind, Christine P. Garcia and Michelle R. Garcia. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Rey Michael Gutierrez and by his niece, Maria Estrada, who lovingly called him "Grandpa". He leaves behind two very, very, special friends, his habitual partner in laughter, his sister-in-law and closest friend, Joella M. Apodaca, (his Selena) and his favorite longtime fishing partner, Neri Lovato. He loved so many other good friends and family members in his lifetime. He reached out to all that needed help without any request for payment in return. Until we all meet again in heaven, he will be missed greatly everyday for the rest of our lives. For those of you that visited Reyes in his last days, he greatly appreciated that you cared enough to come by and see how he was doing. The family thanks each and everyone for your support. It means so very much. A very special thanks to Rachel Duran (for her loving care) and to Patricia Fernandez (for being a teacher and an inspiration to Christine) and to the staff at Lovelace Home Health Care, UNM Cancer Center and the beautiful souls at Odyssey (Hospice) Healthcare for their utmost support, compassion and kindness throughout this most difficult time. A service will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. at the New Beginnings Church of God, 3601 Montgomery Blvd N.E. (corner of Carlisle NE and Montgomery Blvd. NE). Reception to follow at 2915 Juliet Court NW. If needed, call 615-3356 for more info.
