CHURCHILL -- Leroy Churchill, born September 12, 1941, died January 6, 2007, in Albuquerque, NM. Leroy was a well-known and respected addiction therapist in Albuquerque, after moving from Chicago in 1997, where he had been an addiction therapist for several years. In Albuquerque, he worked at Focused Recovery, Turquoise Lodge, Metropolitan Detention Center, MATS, and Dragonfly Counseling. He was active in Toastmasters, in Albuquerque Addiction & Recovery Study Group, and was a founder of Recovery TV on Channel 27. Leroy was respected by colleagues and clients alike for his patient, straight-forward and caring personality and his persistence, even after he developed serious health problems. When Leroy left Chicago, the following tribute was read, and it still sums up his life. THE SPIRIT OF ROY, ALWAYS WITH US United in our desire to wish you well and not farewell. Your years of giving have afforded us new lives. You are compassionate, affectionate, and intirguing, and concerned about others. We give thanks to Leroy Churchill, for touching and nurturing our lives. Love of another, an infinite delight, you've shared in others' well-being. You are a symbol of power and strength, selfless humanity, faith, confidence, trust, belief, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Moving mountains and sick souls, cultivating inner spirits and taking part in the rebirth of many of us in this very room. Roy has taught us to rejoice in the truth, to focus and to keep our eyes on the prize. Sharing and caring, love and kindness, living with spiritual principles, 12 Steps of ability to respond, and Good Orderly Direction. The spirit of Roy will always be with us. Some of us are his children, some his sisters and brothers, friends and associates, some spiritual advisors. He is loved by so many and will be kept in our hearts. He brought us joy and generated the essence of recovery with a unique quality, with energy that made an impact on our lives and removed human ignorance. His spirit has inspired, cattle-prodded, and motivated us into a new way of life. We loved him and thank God for his being. Memorial donations may be made to the Next Step Club, 1227 San Mateo Blvd. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.

HAAGER -- Fred D. Haager, 94, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, peacefully left this earth to be with our Lord and his wife of 67 years on Wednesday, January 10, 2006 at the home of his daughter, Patricia Schroeder, surrounded by family and caretakers. Born on October 19, 1912 in Michigan, the youngest of five children, he moved to Illinois in the 1930s to work on his brother's farm. There in Woodstock, IL, he met his wife of 67 years, Esther Kohl, who preceded him in death April 4, 2000. As a young man, Fred and his wife Esther lived and worked in Woodstock, IL, where they raised their daughter, Patricia, and son, Daniel and cared for his mom and dad and Esther's mom. In the early 50s Fred and Esther moved to Colorado for his son Daniel's health. There he worked with a construction company as a carpenter, and helped build the Air Force Academy Chapel. They retired to Illinois in the 60s, and Fred worked as a finish carpenter until he retired in '72. Shortly thereafter, Fred and Esther began their new life as traveling retirees, joined a trailer club and went all over the United States, enjoying its vast beauty and sights, making many friends along the way, playing countless games of pinochle, euchre and cribbage. They finally decided to permanently winter down in Donna, TX, coming back to Woodstock for the Midwest springs and summers. In the winter of 1998, the came to Albuquerque to their daughter Patricia's home and stayed through til March 1999, during time they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary with family and friends. After Esther passed away in April 2000, Fred sold the family hone and moved to Albuquerque to live with his daughter Patricia and be closer to most of the immediate family. The next six years or so, Fred enjoyed road trips with daughter Patricia and attended all of his granddaughters and great-granddaughter's weddings, plus graduations and birthdays. Of course there were many cribbage games with Patricia and card games with all his grand and great-grandchildren. As his eyesight and the Parkinson's disease took its toll on his eyes and body, he became an avid listener of the "Talking Book" program, going through at least a few books every week. And he never missed watching any Cubs game during baseball season! A gentle man, humble and quiet, Fred, "Dad", "Grampa" will be sorely missed, but he left us with a love and respect for our beautiful world and all its creatures, and most of all, truly helped all who knew and loved him to understand that the best things in life are NOT things. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Haager Schroeder of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Anne Schroeder of Albuquerque Jean Schroeder Makin of Chandler, AZ; Mary Lou Schroeder Dixon of Las Vegas, NV, Kerri Haager Garms of Woodstock, IL; grandsons, Michael Schroeder and John Schroeder of Albuquerque, and Shawn Haager of Woodstock, IL. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Shanna Schroeder Flynn Dempsey of Albuquerque, Ian Anderson of Albuquerque, Caitlin and Kelsey Makin of Chandler, AZ and Meghan, Jackson and Quenton Garms of Woodstock, IL. Other relatives who will miss Fred include Jim Haager and his family of Woodstock, IL, Mary Haager McConnell of Issaquah, WA, Frances Haager Philotoff and family of South Bend, IN, Bernard Roberts and family of South Bend IN; and numerous other relatives from that area. A Rosary and Wake will be held at Aspen Funeral Alternatives at 1935 Juan Tabo, NE, Albuquerque on Friday, January 26, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated for Fred on Saturday January 27, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Road, NE, Albuquerque. Interment will be held in Woodstock, IL at a later date.

Henry was born in San Diego, CA in 1919. He graduated with honors from Brown Military Academy at Pacific Beach, CA. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering with minors in English and history from San Diego State. His graduate work in physics was completed at the University of California at Berkley. After graduation, he worked as department supervisor of Convair Aircraft Corporation until he joined the army in 1944. He received his commission at Fort Benning, GA and was sent to fight in the Japanese theater. Henry remained in Japan for six years after the war ended, where he became a Chief of Economics in the reparations of Japan under Douglas McArthur in Osaka, Japan. After a long and distinguished career with multiple commendations of excellence, he retired in 1979. During his life he had great passion for hunting, fishing and volunteering as a coach with Little League baseball. He loved animals and always had a special bond with all the family pets. Henry will be remembered for so many things, but perhaps the most as the cornerstone of his family. Whether it was a crisis, as when his daughter ran through a glass door or for fixing something as simple as a necklace clasp, a car part, or editing a school paper. He was always there for everyone. After retirement, he turned to personal writing and had many selections published. He will be greatly missed in so many ways by his wife of fifty-two years, Betty; son, Bill and his fiancee, Vickie; daughter, Suzanne; son-in-law, Jay; and grandchildren, Nick and Kaiti. His wishes were for a private family Memorial. Daniels Family Funeral Services 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM 87109 (505) 821-0010
