Brinkman -- Charles (Lefty) Brinkman, renowned skiing and skating celebrity. A Memorial will be held at Sandia Peak Ski Base Lodge, Sunday, March 9, 2003, 4:00 p.m. Charles (Lefty) Brinkman, a legend in winter sports, died on December 21, 2002 of Cancer in McCall, Idaho. He and his wife, Maxine, made their home in Albuquerque for many years until the spring of 2000 when they moved to Idaho to assist with construction of an ice rink and develop a winter sports program. Lefty taught skiing at Sandia Peak and was an instructor with the Rough Riders Ski program. For many years, he was a director of the Aspen Ski School. He established the Aspen Tennis Club, and assisted with the development of Snowmass Ski Mountain. Lefty was a 1948 Olympic silver medalists in men's singles ice skating. Over the years, he won numerous medals and awards in singles, pairs and dance ice skating competitions. All his friends and associates are invited to join the Memorial.

Browning -- Elizabeth"Bette" Browning, 84, a resident of Albuquerque for 60 years, passed away peacefully at Manzano del Sol, Wednesday, March 5, 2003 after a long struggle with diabetes and heart disease. She is survived by her son, Scott Browning and wife, Frances of Albuquerque; daughter, Donna Looseley and husband, Don of Southport, NC; sisters, Loretta Hendryx of Albuquerque and Carol McMeen of Springfield, MO; brothers, Samuel Spohr and wife, Louise of Albuquerque and Harold Spohr and wife, Leona of Woodburn, OR; sisters-in-law, Lorene Spohr of Mesa, AZ and Jerry Spohr of Kingman, AZ; brother-in-law, C.L. Browning of Boyd, TX; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jesse and Maureen Hayes of Shallowater, TX; and grandchildren, Don Reinheardt and wife, Khristina, Andrew Browning and Kenneth Browning. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlon Browning; and brothers, Richard and Thurlow Spohr. Bette was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church, Four Hills Country Club and Daughters of the Nile. Burgess -- M.G."Mac" Burgess, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1943, died Monday, March 3, 2003. He is survived by his granddaughters, Shanon Goldberg and husband, Mitch of Dallas, TX and Nisa Fazio and husband, John of Datil, NM; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Evelyn Clark of Miami, Fl and Geneva Bond of Boston, GA. Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Burgess; and son, Rodney Burgess. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 953 since 1946, and was a lifetime Mason. Castillo -- Edward Henry Castillo, 63, a resident of Albuquerque since 1979, passed away on March 6, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Castillo of Albuquerque; children, Catherine Harvey of Albuquerque, Cheryl Castillo and partner, Lori Hules of Rio Rancho, David Castillo and wife, Pam of Albuquerque and Carolyn Sanchez and husband, Roy of Albuquerque; brothers, Richard Castillo and wife, Rita, Raymond Castillo and wife, Judith, Fred Castillo and wife, Trish, all of Gallup, NM; sister, Virginia Nuanez and husband, Frank also of Gallup, NM; eight grandchildren, Justin, Branden, Alex, Emily, Renee, Evelyn, David and Alsace. Edward retired in 1980 from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service. Since November of 1984, Edward was employed by Kirtland Air Force Base as an Acquisition Flight Chief. Chavez -- John Hudson Chavez, 87, and a longtime resident of Gallup, died on March 6, 2003 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Sugarett, NM to Sefarino and Delia Hern Chavez. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. An avid golfer, he golfed five days a week and shot"his age" and under until his death. He was a baseball umpire, umpiring the Connie Mack Word Series for seven years. As the coach for Rehoboth Mission High School, he led the baseball team to the State Championship. He also played the sport and managed the semi-pro baseball team,"Gamerco". Mr. Chavez was honored to receive the key to the city of Gallup when July 31, 1991 was declared"Hudson Chavez Day". Mr. Chavez is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Chavez of Albuquerque; children, Bernie Chavez of Aurora, CO and Elaine Deland of San Francisco, CA; sisters, Martha Hooker and Carmen Lubke; and several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Temple Baptist Church, 1613 Arizona Street NE with Pastor J. Curtis Goldman officiating. Christenson -- Geraldine F."Gerri" Christenson, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003. She is survived by her sons, Brian E. Christenson and wife, Margaret of Albuquerque and Jon R. Christenson and wife, Ann of Belen; grandchildren, Erik Christenson and wife, Jessica of Minneapolis, MN, Amy Christenson, Betsy Christenson, both of Belen, James Melton and wife, Chelan of Springfield, TN and Carol Lowe and husband, David of Los Lunas; great-grandchildren, Elijah Christenson, David Melton, Christopher Melton, Maranda Melton, Troy Lowe and Zachary Lowe; sister, Vivian Madsen of Geneva, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.¯ Mrs. Christenson was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Harold E. Christenson; and son, Norton Payne Christenson.¯ She was associated with the Girls Scouts of America for over 80 years.¯ Mrs. Christenson also was a member of the Christian Women's Club of Albuquerque. Elliott -- George Earl Elliott, 88, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2003, after a protracted convalescence in The Health Center in La Vida Llena. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beth; and their daughter, Susan, who resides in Seattle, WA. He is also survived by one brother, Donald and wife, Bonnie; one sister, Dorothy, all of San Angelo, TX; and many nieces and nephews, who will miss him dearly. Mr. Elliott was born May 13, 1914 in Tyler, TX. His parents were George and Lula Mae Elliott, now deceased. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He and Beth moved to Albuquerque in 1950, where he was employed by the F.A.A, retiring in 1972. Mr. Elliott was a skilled pilot who flew professionally and served as an instructor for prospective pilots for many years at Seven-Bar Airport. He was a charter member of St. John¯s United Methodist Church since 1951. Mr. Elliott enjoyed golfing and was a member of New Mexico Senior Golf Association. Enfield -- Robert Noyes Enfield died March 5, 2003, in Santa Fe, NM. Bob was born April 4, 1928, in Hollywood, California, to Lucie Curnutte Enfield and Harold Enfield, who preceded him in death, as did his niece, Susan Seymour Adams. Bob spent his school years in Big Bear Lake, CA. He enlisted in the U S. Navy at 16 years of age, and served during World War II in Hawaii. After working as a land man in West Texas, Bob went into the oil and gas business for himself in 1957. Bob and his family moved to Santa Fe in 1971 from Roswell, NM, where they had lived since the mid-1950's. A long-time independent oil and natural gas producer, Bob was president of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association from 1980 through 1982. Bob loved to fly fish and hunt quail, play golf and ski, entertain in his home and host family gatherings. He had a zest for life and enormous curiosity. Bob was a voracious reader, an avid bridge player, and classical music and wine enthusiast ("Uno Mas Ano"). Bob took his role as patriarch of his family seriously and with great generosity. His friends and family remember him as an extraordinarily genuine and modest man who freely shared his good fortune with many people in a variety of ways. We will remember him for his marvelous ability to provide a lasting and positive influence on so many. As Bob wished, he has been cremated and his ashes will be spread in the mountains by his family. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Bob is survived by his wife, Kay; his sister, Mollie Seymour, of Santa Fe; his daughter, Lisa Enfield and Paul Bardacke, of Albuquerque; his two sons, Eric and wife, Marty, and Stuart, of Santa Fe; three grandchildren, Ariel Sklar, Ethan Sklar, and Tim Enfield. Griffin -- Sharon Griffin died Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at the age of 46. Sharon was very active with Healthcare for the Homeless. She loved the people she worked with and never forgot where she came from. Katz -- K. Dianne Katz was born Thursday, September 11, 1947 in Los Angeles, CA. She died Friday, March 7, 2003 in Albuquerque, NM after a valiant battle with cancer. Dianne was preceded in death by her father, Walter Katz; and stepfather, Alton Garner. She is survived by her mother, Lucile Garner; uncle, Tony Tagliaferro; aunt, Jenny McNeil; and numerous cousins, friends and colleagues. Dianne attended and graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in Albuquerque. She was longtime member of St. Charles Borremo Church. Dianne received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico in June, 1969 and from the School of Law in May 1972. She was admitted to practice law in August 1972. Dianne was presented the UNM School of Law Dean's Award on April 27, 1972, for"unselfishly giving of her time and energies in the service of the students, the faculty, and the School of Law." Dianne served on the Board of Directors of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of New Mexico. In 2000, the New Mexico Women's Bar Association presented Dianne with the"Golden Hammer Award" for her meticulous building of the Habitat for Humanity House. But for Dianne, many, many clients would have been without the exacting, dedicated representation to which she dedicated her life. Regardless of whether a person in need could never pay her, could only pay her $1, or, promised to pay her mere pennies per month, Dianne took care of all her clients in the same way-with all the love and care she had to give. The legal community is indebted to her. She was a member of Pilot Club since 1980, serving as Governor of the Southwest District of Pilot Club International in 1991. Dianne will be remembered as a unique and special person who touched the lives of her family, friends and clients. Larzelere -- Bart Larzelere died on March 1, 2003. He was truly a bright star and overflowing spirit. Some highlights of his life were skateboarding, music (trumpet, baritone horn, flute), food service in Hawaii and at The Old House in Santa Fe, EMT work at the Espanola Hospital, reading, and poetry. He was a student at New Mexico Military Institute, Santa Fe Community College, and the University of New Mexico. He came to full life as he embraced conversations with friends and family. He had the greatest network of friends of anyone 26 years old. How he loved his grandparents, his mom and dad; cousins, aunts and uncles of many generations. He had the joy of knowing his great-grandparents, now deceased, Harry James and Eva Belle Grabert, formerly of Fountainville, PA. Bart was preceded in death by his grandma, Eva Krause Yerk Steeley and his grandpapa Benjamin Larzelere, Jr. He is survived by his loving mother and father, Beverly and The Rev. Benjamin Larzelere III, Santa Fe, NM; his loving friend Eliza Kretzmann, Santa Fe, NM; granddad,¯ Jacob A. Pena -- Deborah Cordova Pena, 96, passed away March 5, 2003. Deborah was born March 3, 1907. Pickard -- Kenneth Robert Jr., 55, passed away on March 6, 2003 at his residence in Bernalillo, in the presence of his family. Kenneth was a kind and generous soul who was dearly loved by his family, his co-workers, and members of his community. Kenneth, the oldest of three, was born in St. Louis, Missouri on September 26, 1947 to Ruth and Kenneth Pickard Sr., who preceded him in death. He spent most of his childhood growing up in the Chicago suburb of Lake Bluff, Illinois. Kenneth studied abroad his senior year of high school in Goteburg, Sweden, forming a strong and lasting bond with his host family, the Gustafssons. After receiving a bachelor's degree in Art History from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Kenneth decided to pursue a career in the field of medicine. Together with his new wife, Jean, who he met working at a local hospital, they relocated to Wake Forest, North Carolina, where Kenneth pursued a Physician's Assistant degree at Wake Forest University. In the summer of 1978, Kenneth, his wife, four-year-old son, Jake, and newly-born daughter, Amy, relocated to Bernalillo, New Mexico, where he accepted a position at the El Pueblo Health Clinic as a Physician's Assistant. He worked at the El Pueblo Health Clinic until 1986, at which time he accepted a position at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Albuquerque where he continued to work until several weeks prior to his death. Robinson -- John Eugene"Robbie" Robinson, USAF (Ret.), 71,¯ passed away quietly in his home Thursday, March 6, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Anna Maria Robinson of Albuquerque; son, Derek Robinson and wife, Shanna of Albuquerque. Robbie completed a 25 year military career and then retired in 2003 from Business Environments after 26 years. He was a loving husband and father who loved the outdoors, enjoyed camping and fishing as well as gardening. He was a true and generous friend to all who knew him. Schwebach -- Vincent John Schwebach was born on September 18, 1960 in Dell Rapids, SD, the son of George and Lois Schwebach. He grew up and attended school in Dell Rapids and graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1979. Vince attended college at the University of South Dakota, Springfield and South Dakota State University. He moved to Albuquerque and worked as a carpenter constructing homes. Vince married Michelle Paisano on November 29, 1989 in Albuquerque. They lived in Albuquerque and later moved to Denver, CO. Vince worked as a carpenter, designing and installing cabinets and countertops. In 2001, his health forced him to move to Dell Rapids with his son, Joseph to be near his family. Vince died on Sunday, March 3, 2003 in Rochester, MN due to complications following open heart surgery. He was 42 and was preceded in death by his twin brothers, John and Joseph. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Michelle of Albuquerque; son, Joseph of Dell Rapids; stepsons, Eddie and Chris of Denver; parents, George and Lois of Dell Rapids; five sisters, Grace Wallin of Prairie Village, KS, LeeAnn Freshour of Rathdrum, ID, Emily Murphy of Dell Rapids, Joan Mears of Baltic and Carol Thomassen of Sioux Falls; two brothers, Jim of Des Moines, IA and Mark of Oak Park, IL; eight nieces; and ten nephews; and his many good friends.

van Auken -- Phyllis Van Auken, 75, passed away after a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her husband Ivan in 1990. Survivors include Karen Kelso and husband, Russ of Corrales, Kurt Van Auken and wife, Ginger of Bloomfield, NM; brother, Paul Lozier and wife, Viola of Stanhope, NJ; grandchildren, Jason, Kirsten, Lindsie, Sara and newest grandchild due June 2nd, Jannetjen Phyllis May; many nieces and nephews.
