Aguilar -- Nicanor E. (Nick) Aguilar, a native of New México, born in Ant¢n Chico on October 26, 1921 died July 18, 2002. Nick served in the military in WWII under General Mac Arthur in the Philippines. He is survived by his son Pat Aguilar and wife April; daughters Marie Mosher and husband Phil, Kelly Miyaki and husband Russell; sister Helen Aguilar; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many friends. A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 in Fern Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Av. SE. Private interment will take place on Wednesday, July 31, 2002 in Santa Fe National Cemetery. Strong-Thorne Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Alirez -- Herman Nelson Alirez, age 41 passed away July 24, 2002 in Albuquerque. Herman was born November 6, 1960 in Clovis, NM to the home of Paul and Camren Romero. He was reared and attended schools in Corona. Herman was residing in Albuquerque where he was a self employed Jack of all trades and master of None. He loved riding his Harley Motorcycle and he loved to work. Herman married Nita Smith on January 28, 1983 in Albuquerque. He is preceded in death by his Biological father Paul Romero; and his adopted parents Arturo and Rumalda Alirez. Survivors include his biological mother Carmen Romero of Corona, NM; his wife Nita Alirez; son Matthew Ray Alirez; and his daughter Samantha Jo Alirez. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters Paul Jr. Alirez, Danny Romero, Michael Romero, Jessie Romero, Tony Romero, George (Eddy) Romero, Maria Dearing, Alvina Holleyman and JoAnna Holliefield; along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends and relatives. Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 29 at 11:00 am from the Corona Cemetery in Corona, NM with Mr. Cal West officiating. Serving as Pallbearers are Paul Jr. Alirez, Michael Romero, Jessie Romero, Tony Romero, George (Eddy) Romero, Lon Holleyman and Chris Dearing. Serving as Honorary Pallbearer is Danny Romero. Bond -- Patricia Jo Bond, age 65, passed away Thursday evening, July 25, 2002. She was born July 30, 1936 to the late Edwin and Vera (Seery) Pies. She is survived by her husband, Joe R. Bond of Albuquerque; daughter, Elaine M. Kilgore and husband Bruce of Tempe, AZ; two sons, Alan J. Bond and wife Evelyn of Santa Fe, NM and B. Craig Bond of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Lucas Kilgore, Megan Kilgore, Christopher Bond; brothers and sisters-in-law, Toby and Ruth Tobyas of Albuquerque, Gilbert and Sue Bond of Tijeras, New Mexico, Jerry and Wanda Freer of Wewoka, Oklahoma; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Garcia -- Ernest" Ernie" Z. Garcia, 74, passed away peacefully in his home on July 26 after a long battle with cancer. Ernie was born and raised in Griegos and is survived by Gloria, his beloved wife of 53 years; three loving children, Gene Garcia and wife Donna, Christine Rahn and husband Louis, Andrew Garcia and wife Ann; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Jason, Brooke, Erica, Samuel, Erin, Craig; two great-grandchildren, Arthur and Dominique; sister, Rose and her husband Pete of California; brother, Oracio Garcia; and Ernie's precious pet, Chico. Rosary will be recited Monday, July 29, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary-Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming NE. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church 5310 Claremont Ave. NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary-Wyoming Chapel one hour prior to rosary. Garrison -- Violet Faye Garrison born on May 28, 1911, in Connell, Washington, died on Saturday, July 27, 2002 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Violet lived in Moscow, Idaho for 60 years, graduating from Moscow High School in 1929, where she enjoyed participating in sports during her childhood and high school years. While in Moscow, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary; and she worked as a doctor's receptionist, while raising two daughters. Upon retirement in 1975, she moved to Soquel, California to be near her daughter, Margaret. She served as a deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing golf and bridge. Violet moved to Albuquerque in 1995 to be near her daughter, Patsy and her family. She was a resident of the retirement community La Vida Llena for six years. She was an active resident and enjoyed the friendship of many people. Violet will be dearly missed by dear friends in Moscow, Soquel, Santa Cruz and Albuquerque. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy and husband, Richard Adams; granddaughter, Stefanie and husband, Robert Greiner, all of Albuquerque; and daughter, Margaret Garrison of Paris, France. Her life will be honored at a memorial service at La Vida Llena, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE, on Tuesday, July 30th, at 2:00 p.m. Cremation will be arranged by French Mortuary and remains will be interred in the family plot in Moscow, Idaho. Gonzales -- Annie Gonzales, 77, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 28, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Toby O. Gonzales, of the family home; daughters, Julia Gabaldon and husband, John; Irene N. Gonzales; Darlene Nevarez, all of Albuquerque, and Michelle Rendon of Santa Monica, CA; grandchildren, Anna Marie Garcia and husband, Vince; John Gabaldon, Jr., and wife, Dolly; and Candice Korte; great-grandchildren, Elena Marie Garcia and Giovanni Gabaldon; sister, Rebecca Sanchez; and sister-in-law, Edna Mascarenas, all of Albuquerque. Annie was born and raised in Dixon, NM, and graduated from Menaul High School. She worked at First National Bank until retirement. Griego -- Tobias"Toby" J. Griego, 87, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, July 25, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Annie Griego of Albuquerque; daughters, Agnes Collado and husband, Angel of Madrid, Spain, Kathy Garcia and husband, Narciso of Cedar Crest, NM and Vangie Griego of Los Angeles, CA; son, David Griego and wife, Rita of Mora, NM; grandchildren, David and Victor Collado, Aaron and wife, Marlo, Victor, T.J. and Paula Griego, Daniel, Andrés and Samuel Garcia; sister, Margie Apodaca and husband Manuel, numerous nieces and nephews, and many loving friends. Toby was a former Franciscan brother for 12 years, and a WWII Veteran. Rosary will be recited Monday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Groman -- Robert Charles"Bob" Groman, 80, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, July 25, 2002. Mr. Groman was born September 18, 1921 in Las Vegas, NM. He is survived by his daughter, Mariann Haack and son-in-law, Fred of Albuquerque; and son, Robert F. Groman; daughter-in-law, Laurie; and grandchildren, Jacob and Elizabeth Groman, all currently of Amarillo, TX. In addition, he is survived by a wonderful group of in-laws in and around San Angelo, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Letris"Lee" Groman, who passed away in 1991 in San Angelo; by parents, Frederick Charles"Fritz" Groman and Eunice Groman Myers; brother, William; and sister, Margaret. Bob spent many years with his grandparents, Tecumseh Columbus"T. C." and Laura May"Mamie" Shaeffer in Lander, WY. His grandparents provided the love and family life Bob and his brother and sister needed during that phase of their lives. In Lander, he learned how to hunt and fish, and grew to appreciate and love the beauty of nature. He attended schools in Las Vegas, NM; Bell, CA; Lander; and Dodge City, KS. At Dodge City High School Bob lettered in basketball and track. He was offered a basketball scholarship at the University of Kansas, but instead came to Albuquerque in 1939 when his father, a civil engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad, was transferred here from Dodge City. He attended the University of New Mexico where he again lettered in both basketball and track. World War II interrupted his college studies as it did for so many others. He served overseas with the 309th Troop Carrier Squadron, a division of the 315th Troop Carrier Group, in England, France, and later in Brazil. Following the war, Bob returned to UNM where he received his B. A. and M. S. degrees. He taught school for several years before being accepted into the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He became a Special Agent in 1951 and served in Washington, D.C., Omaha, NE, Des Moines, IA, and Detroit, MI. After leaving the FBI he returned to Albuquerque and went to work for ACF Industries in 1955. Later Bob worked as a salesman for Mossman-Gladden Homes; as a teacher at Esperanza, a school for troubled boys; and as a manager of the Mossman-Gladden furniture store. He returned to service with the federal government in 1969 when he began working for the Veterans Administration. Prior to his retirement from the VA, the administrators of Veterans Affairs honored him for his work with paralyzed veterans in designing and building"specially adapted housing". This was one of his most cherished honors. A Memorial Service for Mr. Groman will be held Monday, July 29, 2002, at 1:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Family members will greet and visit with friends immediately after the service. A private burial service will be held at a later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery, where Mr. Groman will be buried next to his wife, Letris. Hopp -- Lindy M. Hopp,"Ma", 79 born in Mora, NM and a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her family on Saturday, July 27, 2002. She is survived by her children Rudy, Walter Jr., Jerry, Larry, Terry, Glinda, Gary, Velma, Patsy, Glo and Del; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Valdez of Santa Fe and Sophie Martinez of Tierra Amarilla and many dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 54 years, Wally"Pop" and her sister, Nina Garduno. Ma had a special love for her niece, Margie Hernandez, who came from Denver to help care for her. The family would also like to thank"Brother John" Ullom who has always been there for the family and daughter-in-law, Nancy Hopp, for her special care of Ma. Ma had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. She loved her dancing and her Spanish music and Ma always loved a party. Ma had a kind and loving soul. She always found the good in people and was always there with an open home, open heart and just the right words to make a person feel better. For all her softness, Ma had incredible strength that showed itself in her unwavering faith and her love of God, family and life, She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorial services will be held at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph's Dr. NW, with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, and Mass at 9:00 on Wednesday. Kronowit -- Theresa Kronowit, 82, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1971, came to New Mexico from Whitestone, New York. Theresa was born July 11, 1920 the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Sekac in Majav, Czechoslovakia. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Theresa was preceded in death by her husband Frank; daughter, Lorraine Deleewerk and son-in-law, Peter Deleewerk. She is survived by one son, Michael Kronowit and wife Lynn; two daughters, Valerie A. Mathews, and Karen Roach and Steve Trujillo all of Rio Rancho; four grandchildren, Peter Deleewerk and girlfriend Karen, Jesse Stanchfield, Kimberly Kronowit and Lorraine Kronowit. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 1:30 PM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with the Mass of Christian Burial following at 2:00 PM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Madril -- Lucia Madril Montoya, 92 a longtime Encino, NM resident died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at Sandia Hospice in Albuquerque following an illness. Mrs. Montoya was born May 25, 1910 in Duran, NM where she was reared and attended school. She graduated from Encino High School. Lucia married Tomas Montoya at Duran, NM on November 30, 1928. They owned and operated Tom Montoya and Son General Merchandise Store at Encino for many years. They also ranched at Encino for over 50 years. Mrs. Montoya was a faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino. She spent her days praying and reading. Lucia was preceded in death by her husband Tomas in 1974; an infant daughter Mercedes Montoya in 1930; three brothers Sabino Madril, Narciso Madril, and Boney Madril; and two sisters Ursula Garcia, and Rosalia Roybal. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister who will be dearly missed by her family. Survivors include a son Tom Montoya and wife Caroline of Encino, NM; two daughters Fanny Montoya of Encino, NM, Mercedes Pena and husband Andy of Albuquerque; two granddaughters Annette Montoya of Albuquerque and Elaine Prickett of Las Cruces; three grandsons Philip Montoya of Encino, Chris Pena and Bobby Pena both of Albuquerque; three great-grandchildren Jennifer and Joseph Harrison and Renee Pena all of Albuquerque; one brother Susano Madril; and one sister-in-law Adelina Montoya both of Albuquerque. Also surviving are a numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives. Rosary services will be held at 7:30 P.M. Monday, July 29, 2002 from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the church at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 with Father John Jasinski, celebrant of the Mass. Burial will follow in the Encino Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Pena, Bobby Pena, Johnny Chris Madril, Frank Davila, Charlie Anaya, and Raymond Gallegos. Honorary pallbearer will be Philip Montoya. The family would like to express their most sincere appreciation to Dr. Henry Garcia and the staff at Sandia Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Lucia Montoya and her family. Muir -- Hugh B. Muir, 81, a professor of law at the University of New Mexico School of Law from 1968 to 1983, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Joy whom he married October 2, 1992, in Santa Fe, NM; his older brother, Jack and wife, Irene of Butte, MT, and his younger brother, Bob and wife, Barbara of Billings, MT; his children from his first and second marriages, John H. Muir of Austin, TX and Leah Muir Hermes of Portland, OR; and his granddaughters, Grace Muir Hermes and Anna Muir Hermes. Hugh was born on November 12, 1920, in Great Falls, MT, to John B. Muir and Mary Wilson Muir, originally of Newmilnes, Scotland. He graduated with honors from the University of Oregon in 1943 where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Scabbard and Blade. In 1944, he married his college sweetheart, Patricia Gray, in Gainseville, FL, while training for military duty in World War II. During the war, Hugh served as a Second Lt. and mine platoon leader in an antitank company attached to the 106th Infantry division. He was captured during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and held prisoner from Dec. 16, 1944 to April 6, 1945. Upon his return to the U.S., Hugh joined the firm of Stratford, Hanson, and Neely of Portland, OR, as a C.P.A. He then went to the University of Michigan Law School where he was associate editor of the Michigan Law Review and a member of Order of the Coif. After he graduated from law school, Hugh worked in Washington D.C. at the firm of Sutherland, Tuttle, and Brennan before joining the Internal Revenue Service as a special attorney from 1952 to 1955. Hugh, his wife, Patricia, and nine-year old son, John, moved to Dallas, TX in the summer of 1955, where he joined the Carrington and Johnson Law Firm. He was then appointed assistant tax counsel for Texas Instruments, Inc. Hugh and his family were active members of the First Community Church of Dallas. After the loss of his first wife in a car accident in 1965, Hugh subsequently married Grace Weatherall on December 26, 1967 and moved to Albuquerque, NM where he became a professor of law at the University of New Mexico. Hugh and Grace had a daughter, Leah, in 1968, and he enjoyed his years spent teaching at the law school. He retired in 1983 to help care for Grace, who passed away on August 7, 1986, after a long battle with cancer. Hugh often said that he"felt lucky to have had the love of three outstanding women during his life." His final years were spent with his third wife, Joy Wahl Muir. They traveled and enjoyed the happiness of those years and then shared the many months of Hugh's illness. In the spring of 2000, the UNM School of Law honored him by starting the"Hugh Muir Oath Project" where first-year students wrote oaths stating how they intended to conduct themselves as lawyers. As a husband, father, friend, and teacher, he has touched the lives of many. Disposition is by cremation. There will be a private family service during which, as well as in the years to follow, the family will remember and hold dear Hugh's many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., 1250 Hylan Blvd, Suite 4B, Staten Island, NY, 10305.
