Fitzgerald -- Richard W. Fitzgerald, 73, born March 4, 1926, died April 4, 2000. He is survived by his former wife, Jessie Fitzgerald of Corrales, NM; and sons, Dan of Farmington, NM and George of Belen, NM. Richard attended Monte Vista Grade School, Jefferson Junior High School, Albuquerque High School, and the University of New Mexico, and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was born in St. Louis, MO, and soon after moved to Albuquerque with his parents, George and Helen Fitzgerald. When attending grade school, he began a lifelong friendship with Edward Shaffer and Paul Harms, both still living in Albuquerque. Richard was very mature for his age, and when barely old enough to get his driving license, he held a job with the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company as a truck route salesman, a position usually held only by adults. From his early years in school and throughout his adult life he was an avid reader, which accounted for his excellent grades in school and his almost profound ability to talk on just about any subject. Coupled with his dry wit and ever present power of objective thinking, there was no mistaking his intelligence, ever. Since the life of a cowboy always appealed to Richard, after his school years, he experienced numerous ranch jobs, one of the earliest being with good friend, Hugh Olney, now deceased, of Magdalena, NM. Then there were the days when he cowboyed for the Vermejo Park outfit, where he was one of their top hands. Later he worked at the Baca Location in the Jemez Mountains for Franklin Bond from 1948 through 1957, working along side two dedicated and skillful cattlemen, Richard Boyd and his wife, Vera, now of Blanco, NM. To this very day Richard Fitzgerald's photograph still appears on the Stetson hat boxes, astride his dun cow pony driving a herd of Hereford cattle across the Valle Grande. It was here at the Bond Ranch in 1950 that he met Jessie Fenton, daughter of Mac and Alice Fenton, at their neighboring ranch. Richard and Jessie were married that year, and in Jessie, Richard not only found a great companion, but a gritty and experienced cowgirl as well. She was always with him, every step of the way. Out of this union they had their two sons, Dan and George. Richard and Jessie then went on to have their own cow outfit at Cebolla, NM and here their business and marriage fell on hard times, culminating in divorce. Richard went on to work at other ranches and a feed lot in Tucumcari, NM. In failing health he moved to Kingman, AZ, where he spent his final days in a rest home. Some of us especially feel the void left by Richard's death, but just as sure as we grieve our loss, we also revel and celebrate his life and times, and the rewards of being a part of this. Cremation has taken place. There will be no services.

John Dewey Paez was an avid horseracing fan, and he spent many a jocund eve relaxing with friends as he watched horses of his ownership win first place. He was exceedingly kind and generous. His children were the main focus of his later life, and he did everything in his power to provide shoulders to stand on that they might reach the stars of their dreams."Dewey", as all of his family knew him, had a shining sense of humor and cracked jokes upon his deathbed. He placed an unusual value on life in each passing day for he sensed the fleeting, flickering candle burned all too fast.
