Maestas -- Herman L. Maestas,"The Apple," a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Monday, December 27, 1999 at the young age of 63. A native New Mexican, born in Corrales and a proud member of the Teamsters Local 492 for 32 years. The Super Slab has come to an end,"Come In." Herman was born July 3, 1936 the son of Trancito and Delfina Pacheco Maestas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Trancito and Delfina Maestas, his parents-in-law, Manuel and Felicita Sisneros, infant son, Mark Maestas and infant granddaughter, Angelica Maestas. Herman is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Sisneros Maestas, two sons, Walter Maestas, Kenneth Maestas and his wife Patricia, four grandchildren, Fabian, Mariah, Marcus, and Alyssa Maestas, one great-grandchild, Izabella Maestas. He is also survived by his sisters, Antonia and husband Casimiro Apodaca and Gloria Maestas, brother, Edmundo Maestas, sister-in-law, Della Thornton and husband Wallace and many nieces and nephews, along with many other family and friends. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening, December 29, 1999 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, December 30, 1999 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Rd. in Rio Rancho. Pallbearers will be Diego Garcia, Orlando Cordova, Dave Santillanes, George Quintana, Pro Padilla, and Max Cisneros. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gilbert"Russian Spy" Gonzales, Stewart Babcock, Casimiro Apodaca, David Thornton, Ralph Martinez, Chester Chavez, Bobbie Pacheco, Larry"Pot-O-Gold" Sandoval, Kevin Garcia, Sal Fresquez, John Clark, and Eugene Trujillo. Polnaszek -- John"JP" Polnaszek, loving father and friend, gave up his battle with cancer and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 22, 1999 in Chandler, Arizona. John was a member of the local I.B.E.W. #64C and an active member of both the East Valley and Southern Nevada Harley Owners Group Chapters. John is survived and will be greatly missed by his father, Daniel Polnaszek; his big brother, Robert and wife, Paula; his twin brother, Bill and wife, Nancy; his daughter, Kimberly and husband, Larry Wainscott; grandson, Jason; and granddaughter, Kayla Wainscott; and his loving companion Ruth Polnaszek; along with many other family and friends. Gallant -- CB"KIP" Gallant, 77, a resident of Moriarty, passed away December 15, 1999. He was born to Joseph and Minnie (Gaudet) Gallant, May 8, 1922 in Brockton, MA. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Michelle Gallant of Moriarty, NM; his daughter, Debra Gallant of Albuquerque; and his grandson, Derek."Kip" served in the Navy during WWII and received a Victory and Good Conduct medal. He was a member of the Lions of Moriarty and was a bar owner for 24 years. A Memorial service was held December 22, 1999, 10:00 a.m., at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM, with Father Tony Martinez officiating. Services were held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, December 22, 1999 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Child-Rite Adoption Agency, 2008 Rosina St., Santa Fe, NM 87505. Arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Funeral Home in Moriarty, NM.All of the Gallant family would like to thank everyone that attended the funeral, all who sent flowers, food. Matthews -- Irene Emma Matthews, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Tuesday, December 14, 1999. She is survived by her four sons, James Matthews and wife, Carolyn of Phoenix, AZ Robert Matthews and wife, Nancy of Albuquerque, Dewayne Matthews and wife, Gladys of Boulder, CO and Sam Matthews and wife, April of Pagosa Springs, CO; three grandchildren, Kristina, Patrick and Emily; one sister, Dorothy Olson and husband, Don; four brothers, Dewayne Fellbaum and wife, Marlene, Kennard Fellbaum and wife, Gertrude, Earl Fellbaum and wife, Esther and Bernard Fellbaum and wife, Arlis; and sister-in-law, Helen Fellbaum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A Matthews in 1995. Mrs. Matthews was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was a school teacher and retired from Albuquerque Public Schools. Irene and her husband were the founders of the Albuquerque Suicide and Crisis Center. She volunteered at Senior Centers in Albuquerque and Pagosa Springs, CO. Memorial services will be held Thursday, 1:30 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Rd. NE, with Pastor Larry Wright officiating. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.

Garcia -- Joe Frank Garcia, 70, a lifelong resident of New Mexico and 40 year resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, December 20, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lorraine M. Garcia of Albuquerque; daughter, Jolene Ann Stelmach and husband, Larry; granddaughter, Mikaela Rose Stelmach; grandsons, Austin Cole Stelmach and Tanner Grant Stelmach, all of Grand Junction, CO; mother, Tana Garcia of Albuquerque; brothers, Jesse Garcia and wife, Anna Mae of Albuquerque, Art Garcia and wife, Joyce of Albuquerque and Louie Garcia of Ozark, AL; sisters, Jennie Casaus and husband, Ernie of Albuquerque and Mary Crespin and husband, Max of Tucumari. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lauren Marie Stelmach. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Garcia worked for Creamland Dairies for over 35 years. Joe was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and family man. He adored his grandchildren and had a passion for working on various outdoor projects, especially for his family and friends. His caring ways, his guidance, and his generosity will long be remembered. A celebration of Mr. Garcia's life will take place Thursday, December 23, 1999, 9:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Cordova -- Mrs. Delphina (Phina) Saavedra Cordova, born April 29, 1940 in Kingman, Arizona, died December 17, 1999 in Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anne Lee Lovato Saavedra and her father, Frank Saavedra. She is survived by her husband, Emilio Cordova; her daughter, Ann Abeyta; one sister, Lydia Saavedra; one brother, Orlando Saavedra; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Saavedra and Lydia Matoff; one niece, Sherri Gordon; one nephew, Jeff Saavedra; grandnephews, Trevor and Travis Gordon; grandnieces, Taylor and Cayden Gordon; uncles and aunts, Richard and Bertha Lovato, Joe and Margaret Lovato, Stella and Florian Giron, Eliseo and Jenny Saavedra, Clorinda Montoya; and numerous cousins and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Cordova will be held on Thursday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Glenn Giron, Pat Giron, Ernie Montoya, Larry Mendoza, Matthew Garcia and Patrick Giron. Carlson -- Jay Wells Carlson, born August 24, 1954 in Littleton, Colorado, passed away peacefully in Albuquerque on Thursday, December 16, 1999. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Carl and Elise Carlson. He worked for Southwest Airlines for 15 years, and during that time, served as a supervisor in the operations department. He started at the Albuquerque station in 1984 while he supported his son, Josh, daughter, Lindsey and wife, Joanne, provisioning 737 aircraft. In January of 1993, after two years of hard and dedicated work, Jay earned his private pilot's license in a Cessna 150. In his last year, he became involved with Calvary Church, where he went to study the ministries and learn more about his faith. He was a faithful church goer and spoke of what he learned to those who were important to him. Jay was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying skiing, hiking and camping with his family and friends. He was a kind and considerate soul who's outgoing nature earned the respect of those who knew him. He is survived by his son, Joshua G. Carlson, daughter-in-law, Moira Carlson and their son, Eric M. Carlson; daughter, Lindsey D. Carlson and her boyfriend, Michael A. Frost, wife, Joanne Carlson, his father-in-law, Henry P. Butscher, mother-in-law, Irene A. Butscher; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and various family members throughout the country, and his lifelong friends from Littleton, Colorado. Now he leaves us to join those who love him in the spiritual world. We all love you Jay and we will miss you. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, with Mr. Larry Pierson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
