Matthews -- Irene Emma Matthews, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Tuesday, December 14, 1999. She is survived by her four sons, James Matthews and wife, Carolyn of Phoenix, AZ Robert Matthews and wife, Nancy of Albuquerque, Dewayne Matthews and wife, Gladys of Boulder, CO and Sam Matthews and wife, April of Pagosa Springs, CO; three grandchildren, Kristina, Patrick and Emily; one sister, Dorothy Olson and husband, Don; four brothers, Dewayne Fellbaum and wife, Marlene, Kennard Fellbaum and wife, Gertrude, Earl Fellbaum and wife, Esther and Bernard Fellbaum and wife, Arlis; and sister-in-law, Helen Fellbaum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A Matthews in 1995. Mrs. Matthews was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was a school teacher and retired from Albuquerque Public Schools. Irene and her husband were the founders of the Albuquerque Suicide and Crisis Center. She volunteered at Senior Centers in Albuquerque and Pagosa Springs, CO. Memorial services will be held Thursday, 1:30 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Rd. NE, with Pastor Larry Wright officiating. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
