STEGALL -- Emory K. Stegall, 91, a resident of New Mexico for 30 years, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2008. Emory was born December 18, 1916 the son of Frederick and Edna M. Ray Stegall in Bullard, TX. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years of service. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, and earned six Bronze Stars. Emory was an avid writer, he would type up letters to express his opinions, and send them to politicians and newspapers. He also loved listening to Ballroom music. Emory was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 2003; his parents, Frederick and Edna Stegall; brother, Edwin Stegall; two sisters, Marguerite Harrell and Nettie D. Clendin; and grandson, Eric W. Martin. He is survived by three children, Jo Marie Payne and husband Willis of Weston, CO, Thomas Stegall of Columbus, OH, and Charlene Armstrong and husband Richard of Merced, CA; a special granddaughter, Brandy Shinnick and eight other grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Ray Stegall and wife Dorris of Austin, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Visitation for Emory will be held today, Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. LOPEZ -- Veneranda "Landa" Lopez went with the Lord September 20, 2008 in Albuquerque at the age of 67. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Lopez is survived by her husband, Emilio Lopez; daughter, Angela Dominguez and husband, Frank; sons, Joseph Lopez, James Lopez and wife, Karen, Jerry Lopez and wife, Michelle; sisters, Jane Telles, Lorraine Nieto and husband, Steve, Helen Chavez and husband, Joe, Juanita Sandoval, and Roseann Chavez; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation for Mrs. Lopez will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 and Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension, 2150 Raymac Rd. SW. RANEY -- Mary Jane Raney, age 79, of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008. She was born June 12, 1929 in Effingham, IL to Aloysius and Gertrude Fruchtl. She married James Joseph Raney on June 20, 1953 in Effingham, IL and he preceded her in death on January 31, 2006, after 53 yrs. of marriage. Surviving are her children, Kent Raney and his wife Jane of Carlsbad, NM, Kevin Raney and his wife Susan of San Clemente, CA, Rene Raney of Albuquerque, NM, and Sean Raney and his wife Susan of Dallas, TX; her grandchildren, Jedd and his wife Daria, Caitlin, Jacob, Kristin, Kelly, Alex, and Patrick; great-grandson, Brayden; two brothers, Bob Fruchtl and his wife Pat of Springfield, IL and Dick Fruchtl and his wife Sandra of Effingham, IL. DOURTE -- Granville Laverne Dourte, 88, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008. Granville is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen Margaret Dourte and his children: Margaret Saunders and husband Leigh, of Albuquerque, NM; Patricia Bruner and husband Will, of Greenville, SC; Richard Dourte and wife Christine, of Albuquerque, NM and Kathleen Arvizu and husband Karl of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as Fredina Bucalo, his niece, who grew up alongside Granville more like a sister. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harley Osborn and Dora Dourte and daughter, Theresa Ann Dourte. Granville was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. After graduating from Santa Fe High School in 1939, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and proudly served his Country, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during WWII. Having been the first in his family to complete a post High School education, he went on to become a home builder and carpenter in Albuquerque and then worked at Sandia National Laboratories on top secret Military Projects for over 31 years. He was a long-standing member of the American Legion, Post 13. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, September 22, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., at the Daniels Family Funeral Services Carlisle Chapel located at 3113 Carlisle Blvd. NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery Chapel, 7500 Paseo Del Norte, NE. RIX -- Donna Standfier Rix passed away peacefully on September 17, 2008 with her family and friends at her bedside. Donna was born to F.N. (Sonny) and Marie Standfier on May 28, 1936 in Hugo, OK., moving to Albuquerque's South Valley with her family in 1947. Donna graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1954, and later that year married Donald Rix. Donna received her Bachelors, Masters, and finally her PhD from the University of New Mexico, and after years of teaching writing and literature at UNM and Northern Arizona University, went to work for Sandia National Laboratories. Donna continued her passion for the written word at Sandia, teaching technical writing to staff members and publishing volumes while working in various areas at Sandia including the Solar Energy department, Lab News, and Tech Transfer. Donna retired from Sandia in 2003, filling her free time with xeriscaping her yards and working on a novel that she unfortunately did not complete. Donna is survived by her daughter Donna Marie Smith and husband Steve; granddaughter Jessica Smith, sister Jeanene Carver; sister-in-law Delores Kuhn; brothers-in-law Allen Rix and wife Beverly, Larry Rix and wife Dorothy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Donna is also survived by her dear friend Diane Porter. Donna was preceded in death by Don her husband of 52 years; parents Sonny and Marie; sister Sandra Allen; brother David Standfier; and brothers-in-law Art Kuhn and James Carver. The family would like to thank Donna's neighbors and friends including Kate, Sara, Rane, Carse, and Diana for all their caring and love during her illness. They would also like to express their gratitude to Presbyterian Hospice for the exceptional care the Donna received these last months and particularly thank home care nurse Laurie Vincent and Jan, Edna, and Sandra from the Kaseman Hospice unit. Donna was a bright, funny, talented woman. She will be missed. HAMMITT -- James Gordon Hammitt, 79, went Home to be with our Lord on Saturday, September 6, 2008, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hammitt; parents, William Hammitt and Anna Campbell; son, David Hammitt; granddaughters, Valerie Miller and Gina Goodson. He is survived by his daughters, Nikki Squyres and Deborah Shafer; sister, Betty Montgomery and husband, Richard; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six nephews; and numerous cousins. He was a distinguished veteran, having served in the Air Force from 1947-1969. After retiring in Albuquerque, he became very active in Toastmasters, American Lung Association, American Heart Association, and Lifeline. He was also extremely involved with the Boy Scouts before retiring. He continued to remain active after he moved to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C. last year. A Memorial Service will be held on September 27, 2008 at 3:00 p.m., at Messiah Lutheran Church, 11515 Lomas NE, with Pastor Tim Orlowski officiating. Interment will be private, at a later date, at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

MCGOUGH -- Romaine Elizabeth Sinclair McGough, born to Harry and Alice Sinclair on September 2, 1920 in Baltimore, MD passed into the arms of God on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in the family home surrounded by loved ones. Romaine was the beloved wife of Retired Major General Edward A. McGough III for 65 years. She was the matriarch of the family, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Romaine was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Lindsey Green. She is survived by her husband Ed; four daughters, Sara Lendzion and husband Dennis, Ann McGough, Nancy McGough and husband Sean Green, all of Albuquerque and Gail McGough-Maduena and husband James Maduena of Placitas, NM; granddaughters, Pamela Sever, Alexandra Dyer and husband Brandon, Brooke Green, Mara McGough-Maduena, and Alison McGough-Maduena; grandsons, Joel Green and James McGough-Maduena; and one great-granddaughter, Alynna Dyer. Romaine and Ed were a military family residing in many places in the U.S. and abroad, retiring in Placitas, NM in 1975. Romaine cared deeply for the environment, especially wildlife conservation. She loved music, sang and played the piano throughout her life, in many churches and military chapels around the world. Romaine actively supported all aspects of military family life and Ed's career. She was a wonderful hostess who entertained Kings and Queens, Congressmen, and other dignitaries. Romaine worked for the American Red Cross and was a senior advisor for the American Girl Scout program in Europe. After retiring to Placitas, she was an active participant in the Placitas Jardineros, Placitas Horse Club, and the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Victoria Villarose for her love and care of Romaine in her final months. WEIR -- Betty Keppel Weir, 98, resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1949, died August 23, 2008. Betty is survived by her son, Robert Keppel Weir and wife, Susan Steele Weir; grandchildren, Matthew Robert Weir and wife, Margaret, Michael Richard Weir and wife, Heather; great grandsons, Tyler James Weir, Brant Matthew Weir; and great granddaughter, Hailey Margaret Weir and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years James Edward Weir and her parents, Charles Pinkham Aicher and Pearl Aicher. Betty was a graduate Western State College in Gunnison, CO, was a teacher and also very active in the communities where she lived. She was a member of St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church, active with the League of Women Voters, American Association of University Women, Pan American Round Table and The Albuquerque Art Museum. She was also a founding member of the Tennis Club of Albuquerque and on the Board of Directors of Encino House. Betty thoroughly enjoyed sports, playing tennis until she was 92 years old; was able to attend the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, where she observed Jesse Owens & the US Athletes incredible performances, and she continued her love of sports by recently watching the 2008 Bejing Olympics on TV.
