Obituary for RIX

Donna Standfier Rix passed away peacefully on September 17, 2008 with her family and friends at her bedside. Donna was born to F.N. (Sonny) and Marie Standfier on May 28, 1936 in Hugo, OK., moving to Albuquerque's South Valley with her family in 1947. Donna graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1954, and later that year married Donald Rix. Donna received her Bachelors, Masters, and finally her PhD from the University of New Mexico, and after years of teaching writing and literature at UNM and Northern Arizona University, went to work for Sandia National Laboratories. Donna continued her passion for the written word at Sandia, teaching technical writing to staff members and publishing volumes while working in various areas at Sandia including the Solar Energy department, Lab News, and Tech Transfer. Donna retired from Sandia in 2003, filling her free time with xeriscaping her yards and working on a novel that she unfortunately did not complete. Donna is survived by her daughter Donna Marie Smith and husband Steve; granddaughter Jessica Smith, sister Jeanene Carver; sister-in-law Delores Kuhn; brothers-in-law Allen Rix and wife Beverly, Larry Rix and wife Dorothy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Donna is also survived by her dear friend Diane Porter. Donna was preceded in death by Don her husband of 52 years; parents Sonny and Marie; sister Sandra Allen; brother David Standfier; and brothers-in-law Art Kuhn and James Carver. The family would like to thank Donna's neighbors and friends including Kate, Sara, Rane, Carse, and Diana for all their caring and love during her illness. They would also like to express their gratitude to Presbyterian Hospice for the exceptional care the Donna received these last months and particularly thank home care nurse Laurie Vincent and Jan, Edna, and Sandra from the Kaseman Hospice unit. Donna was a bright, funny, talented woman. She will be missed. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, 3:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel.
