ABEL -- Helen M. Abel, 91, native New Mexican, born in Springer, NM, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2010. Helen's parents, Richard and Margaret MacKaron came to the United States in the early 1900's from Syria and Lebanon. Helen is survived by husband, Clinton N. Abel, children, Patrick and Ellen Abel, Phyllis and Steve Suttle and Janie and Ed Thomas; grandchildren, Mike Skaff, Steve Skaff, Tom Skaff, Angela Duran, Brian Abel, Jeffrey Abel and Katie Thomas; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one on the way; sisters, Virginia Nassif, Florence Bird and Adelle Joseph. She was preceded in death by her brother, Philip MacKaron and her oldest daughter, Sharon Buchanan. Helen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt and sister. She was married to her husband, Clinton from Washington, DC for over 67 years. DURAN -- Herman Duran, age 51, beloved father, son, and brother, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010. He was a life long resident of Albuquerque, NM. Herman served his country in the Iraqi Freedom prior to retiring from the New Mexico Air National Guard. He also retired from PNM after 24 years of service; and was currently employed by the New Mexico Gas Company. He was a member of the American Legion Post #69. Herman will fondly be remembered as loving and helpful person to all. Herman is survived by his precious son who he loved and adored so much, Nathan Duran; Nathan's mother, Madeline; his loving parents, Romeo and Betty Duran; his brothers and sister, Florentino Duran and wife Sheryl, William Duran and wife Vickie, Lucille Duncan and husband Larry; several nieces, nephews, Godchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. Herman will be greatly missed by all. A rosary will be recited Monday at 7:00 p.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 9502 Fourth Street NW. Service of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., also at the Church. SCHUBERT -- Anthony Manuel Schubert, 49, a resident of Alameda, NM passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Anthony is survived by his loving wife of twenty-nine years, Pearl; children, Daniel Jason Duran, Adrian Schubert, and Felicia Schubert; grandchildren, Saavannah, Luciano, and Santos; mother-in-law, Rose Chavez and Joe Sandoval; the Saiz family that raised him, and the Schubert family. Anthony was previously employed with the City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Department and a cook at the Albuquerque Sports Plex for many years. CHAVEZ -- Louis Timoteo Chavez passed away peacefully on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the age of 91 at his son's home in Corrales, NM and is now with his loving wife of 66 years Rose Frances King. He was born on his family's ranch in Agua Dulce northwest of Wagon Mound, NM on August 19, 1919. Lou was one of 14 children born to his parents Manuel Nicomedis Chavez and Maria Soledad Martinez. After a tragic accident when his father was killed on Christmas Eve 1926 his family moved to Albuquerque where he developed a passion for model airplanes with real engines and flew them on the West Mesa. He lettered in track and graduated from Albuquerque High School where he designed his senior class graduation ring. He joined the New Mexico National Guard transferred to the Army Air Corp and served in the China Burma India theater during WWII. After the war he attended UNM and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. After returning to Albuquerque and working at Sandia Labs he moved his family to San Diego, CA and worked in the aircraft industry until retirement when he and Rose moved back to Albuquerque. Lou was preceded in death by his father Manuel Nicomedis Chavez and mother Maria Soledad Martinez; his brothers Adolpho, Antonio, Arthur, Manuel, Benjamin, Jose Alfredo, Alfredo, and Filaberto; his sisters Soledad,Lilia,Cleofas and Salome. He is survived by his sister Delia Martinez; sister-in-law Sue King Chavez; his sons, Chuck and his wife Wiro Zuniga, Chris and his friend Tere; his grandsons, Chris and his friend Katie, Andre and his wife Christy; his granddaughters, Terre,Lenny and Michelle; his great-grandchildren Tori, Austin, Trevor, Taylor Rose, Wade Carlos and Nicolas; nieces and nephews, Carolyn and John Kirkpatrick, Connie and Richard Ewens and Marlene and Milo Simon; his very close extended family Manny, Lee, Ryan and Carolyn Orosco, Brenda Hollow; and many other family and friends. Lou was the 8th great-grandson of Pedro Gomez Duran y Chaves and great grand nephew of Antonio Jose Martinez, Padre Martinez of Taos. Rosary will be December 3, 2010 at 8:00 a.m., followed by Mass at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Catholic Church in Albuquerque. He will be enshrined with Rose at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., December 3, 2010.

MARQUEZ -- Tony E. Marquez Jr. passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 26, 2010 in Las Vegas, New Mexico; following a brief illness. Former Mayor, Tony Marquez was a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico. Marquez served as Mayor of the City of Las Vegas from 2008-2010. Marquez also served as City Councilor of Ward IV from 1995-2008. Tony E. Marquez was born on December 19, 1966 and was a 1984 graduate of Robertson High School. He attended New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and Finance in 1989. Marquez held numerous positions at the state, federal and in the private sector, culminating with the position of Administrative Services Director for the Corrections Department of the State of New Mexico; where is was appointed by Governor Bill Richardson. Tony was preceded in death by his father Tony E. Marquez, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Jose and Marta Marquez from La Loma, New Mexico; and maternal grandparents, Joe I. and Dolores Kavanaugh. He is survived by his loving wife Dolores; his children: Estevan Marquez, Angelique Marquez and fiance, Dominic Mares, Antonio Marquez III, and Jamie Archuleta all of Las Vegas; his beloved grandchildren, Alexia and Lylianna of Las Vegas; his mother Geraldine Duran; and step father Anthony Duran; his sisters, Denise Marquez-Padilla and husband Patrick Padilla, Maricela Christine Marquez, Angel Duran and fiance Robert Chavez all of Albuquerque, Melissa Martinez-Lucero and husband John Lucero of Denver, CO; mother-in-law Angelina Martinez and father-in-law David Martinez of Albuquerque; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He enjoyed a life of public service where he felt his greatest contributions were made in the areas of policy and strategic planning. Marquez did not seek re-election as Mayor in 2010 for the sole purpose of spending more time with his family, to concentrate on his health and fitness, and to devote more time to his faith. He was also a sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing basketball, fishing, boating, water skiing, 4-Wheeling and boxing. Tony followed in his father's footsteps operating the family ranch in La Loma, New Mexico. He and his father worked the farm on weekends and summers with his sisters, Denise and Christine, and continued his work in agriculture after his fathers passing in 1984. A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 29, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Church, 811 6th Street. The Eulogy will be given by Jack Maes and personal comments by Eric Valdez. The interment will be held at a later date for immediately family only. Serving as Pall Bearers are Patrick Padilla, Carlos Valdez, Phillip Marquez, Anthony Marquez, Chris Chavez, Dominic Mares, Andrew Bustos, and Mark Bustos; Serving as Honorary Pall Bearers are David Romero, Kevin Armijo, Myles Sweeny, Robert Holguin, Tom Gonzales and Derrick Lesley. TORRES -- Virginia P., age 97, born in El Paso, Texas, was called home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 in her home where she lived most of her life. She moved to New Mexico when she was about five years old, with her mother, Paublita and her only sister, Ramona. She met the love of her life, Antonio and was married in October of 1926. By 1951 they had 12 children. Virginia was very devoted to Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church in which she was a member of the Legion of Mary for several years and held the position of Treasurer. She was one of the first members to start the league in Belen. Virginia was very active, devoted and faithful; she always had a rosary in her hand praying for someone. "Our mother Virginia was kind, loving, and caring to her family, friends and neighbors. She had a great love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was blessed that God gave her the life to see her family to the fifth generation." She was preceded in death by her mother, Paublita H. Baca; sister, Ramona Chavez and husband, Antonio Torres; sons, Richard, Arturo and Andres Torres; daughter, Eileen Archibeque; grandsons, Leonard Modesto, Jr., Richard Archibeque; great-granddaughter, Desiree Torres; daughter-in-law, Julia Torres, brothers-in-law, Maurillo and Pat Torres; sisters-in-law, Adelida Cordova, Estella Chaves and father and mother-in-law, Melchor and Trinidad Torres and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Virginia is survived by her loving children, Paul Torres and wife, Sandy and Eloy Torres and wife, Eva, Lucille Archibeque and husband, Macario, Lupe Meintasis and husband, Ishmael, Leo Torres, Beatrice Duran, Frank Torres and wife, Aurora, Steve Torres and wife, Debra and Mercy Modesto and husband, Leonard; 40 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Christina Atencio and Rosalie Pickerell; nephew, Joe Limon and two in-laws, Augustin Torres and wife, Lenore and Sophie Garcia and husband, Calistro. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and several Godchildren she gathered along the way. GALLEGOS -- Angelica Charlene Elizabeth Gallegos, 18, loving daughter, sister, grand-daughter, aunt and friend went home to be with our Lord and Savior Sunday, November 7, 2010.
