Obituary for CHAVEZ

Louis Timoteo Chavez passed away peacefully on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the age of 91 at his son's home in Corrales, NM and is now with his loving wife of 66 years Rose Frances King. He was born on his family's ranch in Agua Dulce northwest of Wagon Mound, NM on August 19, 1919. Lou was one of 14 children born to his parents Manuel Nicomedis Chavez and Maria Soledad Martinez. After a tragic accident when his father was killed on Christmas Eve 1926 his family moved to Albuquerque where he developed a passion for model airplanes with real engines and flew them on the West Mesa. He lettered in track and graduated from Albuquerque High School where he designed his senior class graduation ring. He joined the New Mexico National Guard transferred to the Army Air Corp and served in the China Burma India theater during WWII. After the war he attended UNM and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. After returning to Albuquerque and working at Sandia Labs he moved his family to San Diego, CA and worked in the aircraft industry until retirement when he and Rose moved back to Albuquerque. Lou was preceded in death by his father Manuel Nicomedis Chavez and mother Maria Soledad Martinez; his brothers Adolpho, Antonio, Arthur, Manuel, Benjamin, Jose Alfredo, Alfredo, and Filaberto; his sisters Soledad,Lilia,Cleofas and Salome. He is survived by his sister Delia Martinez; sister-in-law Sue King Chavez; his sons, Chuck and his wife Wiro Zuniga, Chris and his friend Tere; his grandsons, Chris and his friend Katie, Andre and his wife Christy; his granddaughters, Terre,Lenny and Michelle; his great-grandchildren Tori, Austin, Trevor, Taylor Rose, Wade Carlos and Nicolas; nieces and nephews, Carolyn and John Kirkpatrick, Connie and Richard Ewens and Marlene and Milo Simon; his very close extended family Manny, Lee, Ryan and Carolyn Orosco, Brenda Hollow; and many other family and friends. Lou was the 8th great-grandson of Pedro Gomez Duran y Chaves and great grand nephew of Antonio Jose Martinez, Padre Martinez of Taos. Rosary will be December 3, 2010 at 8:00 a.m., followed by Mass at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Catholic Church in Albuquerque. He will be enshrined with Rose at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., December 3, 2010.
