Obituary for TORRES

Virginia P., age 97, born in El Paso, Texas, was called home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 in her home where she lived most of her life. She moved to New Mexico when she was about five years old, with her mother, Paublita and her only sister, Ramona. She met the love of her life, Antonio and was married in October of 1926. By 1951 they had 12 children. Virginia was very devoted to Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church in which she was a member of the Legion of Mary for several years and held the position of Treasurer. She was one of the first members to start the league in Belen. Virginia was very active, devoted and faithful; she always had a rosary in her hand praying for someone. "Our mother Virginia was kind, loving, and caring to her family, friends and neighbors. She had a great love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was blessed that God gave her the life to see her family to the fifth generation." She was preceded in death by her mother, Paublita H. Baca; sister, Ramona Chavez and husband, Antonio Torres; sons, Richard, Arturo and Andres Torres; daughter, Eileen Archibeque; grandsons, Leonard Modesto, Jr., Richard Archibeque; great-granddaughter, Desiree Torres; daughter-in-law, Julia Torres, brothers-in-law, Maurillo and Pat Torres; sisters-in-law, Adelida Cordova, Estella Chaves and father and mother-in-law, Melchor and Trinidad Torres and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Virginia is survived by her loving children, Paul Torres and wife, Sandy and Eloy Torres and wife, Eva, Lucille Archibeque and husband, Macario, Lupe Meintasis and husband, Ishmael, Leo Torres, Beatrice Duran, Frank Torres and wife, Aurora, Steve Torres and wife, Debra and Mercy Modesto and husband, Leonard; 40 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Christina Atencio and Rosalie Pickerell; nephew, Joe Limon and two in-laws, Augustin Torres and wife, Lenore and Sophie Garcia and husband, Calistro. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and several Godchildren she gathered along the way. A viewing will be held at Romero Fuenral Home Chapel, at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22 with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, at 9:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 23 with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
