KEY -- Golda Alberta Key, 92, of Great Falls, Montana formerly of Missoula, MT. died in Great Falls on November 25, 2003. Golda's Funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at the Episcopal Church of Incarnation at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Sue Eades officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Great Falls. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Bamma and James Taylor of Great Falls; two sons and their wives, Samuel and Virginia Key of Albuquerque, NM., Robert and Rosemary Key of Renton, WA; sister, Helen Jones of Sherman, TX; two brothers, Leslie McLane of Overton, TX and Forrest McLane of Tulsa, OK; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. HENDERSON -- David Michael Henderson, age 61, part owner of Ghost Rider Mining Co., September 11, 2003 in Manila, Philippines. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl W. Henderson, Sr. Survivors include his two sons, Michael Shane Henderson, Keith Henderson and wife, Terri, all of Albuquerque; mother, Kethel Henderson, Dickson, TN; sister, Marcia Elaine Overton and husband, Ralph, Dickson, TN; grandson, Jace Henderson, Albuquerque; many other family and friends who loved him dearly. His remains are in the care of the Taylor Funeral Home, Dickson, TN, where VISITATION WILL BE SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2003, 5:00 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M., AND ON SUNDAY FROM 12 NOON UNTIL FUNERAL TIME, and where Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, September 28, at 2:00 p.m., with Bro. Roy West officiating. SMITH -- Hazel Adele Laird Smith was received into the waiting arms of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 18th, 2003. She died peacefully in Houston following complications from Multiple Myeloma and Diabetes. Hazel was the youngest of four children born to S. S. "Shack" Laird and Maude Paralee Dickerson Laird. She was born in her childhood home on March 18, 1926 in Pistol Hill, Rusk County, Texas (now known as Laird Hill, Texas). It was there she grew up in the piney woods and the oil fields of East Texas. She graduated from The Hockaday School in Dallas and continued her education at The University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Hazel made Austin her home for over sixty years. She was a charter member of the Wilshire Presbyterian Church and was a member of the University Presbyterian Church of Austin. For the last two years, Hazel has lived in Houston in order to be closer to her family. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Lois Laird Overton of Houston, Texas and Evelyn Laird Cashen of Kilgore, Texas. Her legacy continues by those who survive her. The survivors include her children, Homer David Smith, Jr. and fiance, Christine Nelson, of San Antonio, Kay Lee Smith Werlin and husband, Eugene, of Houston, Sarah Frances "Sally" Smith of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; her grandchildren, Amy Katheryne Werlin, Eugene David Werlin, Maude Laird Werlin, all of Houston, Margaret Adele Smith of Portland, Oregon, and Virginia Laird Smith of San Antonio. Hazel is also survived by her brother, M. W. "Pete" Laird of Energy, Texas; her brother-in-law, Herbert Cashen of Kilgore, Texas; her special godchild, Jack Kyser of Austin, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and loyal friends. Friends are invited for a visitation with the family at the Laird Hill homestead at half past 10 o'clock in the morning, on Saturday, the 20th of September. Following a light lunch, graveside services will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon at the Thompson Family Cemetery at Laird Hill. Overton -- Dr. William Calvin Overton, Jr., Ph.D., 84, born October 26, 1918 in Dallas, Texas, died Friday January 17, 2003 of advanced Parkinson's Disease and heart failure at Espanola Hospital. Dr. Overton had been a resident of Los Alamos since 1962 where was very active in contributing to the community. He was Los Alamos County Assessor in 1966 and 67. He also was Chairman of Los Alamos Boy Scouts and was awarded the Silver Beaver. He was County Republican Chairman for two years. Having been a pilot since 1937, with many thousands of hours, he was compelled to join the Civil Air Patrol where he became Los Alamos Squadron Commander. He was later appointed New Mexico Wing Commander from November 1982 to October 1985. He flew in many search and rescue missions. In 1941 he joined the U.S. Army. He served in a radar unit on the East coast of England. Upon his return to the States he was promoted to Captain and served with the 17th Air Bourne Division as Company Commander of the Pathfinders at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He was discharged 1946. He then went to work in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he met and married Muriel Olsen, on November 27, 1946. Bill and Muriel moved to Houston, where Bill attended Rice University and in only three years received his Masters and Doctorate in Low Temperature Physics. After a few years of work in Washington, D.C. he came to Los Alamos National Laboratory where he continued his work in Low Temperature Physics and Superconductivity. He had numerous published papers and patents. He retired from the lab in 1986, he then returned to work for a short time and contributed to the development of a helmet to monitor brain activity. William C. Overton Jr. is survived by his wife, Muriel; son, John; daughter, Ellen; grandchildren, Andrea, Kristina, Erik, Bryon, Orin, Aaron, Graham, Johana, Natalie, Briget and Steve; great-granddaughter, Ophelia; nephew, Paul Hubbard; and many other relatives. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday January 22, 2003 at Berardinelli Family Funeral Service 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM. The burial services will be held at The Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the Los Alamos Inn at 5:30 p.m. Family, friends and neighbors are welcome. Elliot -- Jack J. Elliot, 74, of Decatur, AL passed away on December 8, 2002 at Decatur General Hospital. Jack was born on August 27, 1928 to Vernon L. Elliot and Viola Irence Sailors-Elliot in Nebraska. He retired from the U.S. Army with 21 years of service. Jack was a life member of the VFW and DAV; he retired from the Housing Authority in Decatur after 15 years. Mr. Elliot is survived by his wife, Daisy"Ann" Elliot of Decatur, AL; two sons, Lester Ray Elliot of Overton, NV, Vernon J. Elliot of Dalton, GA; and one brother, James L. Elliot of Benkelman, N.E.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at Ridout's Brown-Service Chapel in Decatur, AL with Rev. Don Wright. Burial will be in Burningtree Cemetery in Alabama.

Atchison -- Herbert Boyd Atchison, 80, of Silver City passed away in Gila Regional Medical, Tuesday, July 9, 2002. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Bright Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002 at Burro Mountain Homestead. Mr. Atchison was born April 21, 1922 in Lawrence, KS. He was the son of Robert Homer Atchison and Esther Kirk Atchison. He married Carolyn Harleen Giffin June 9, 1950. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; four daughters, Christena Bond and her husband, John of Rio Rancho, NM; Gail Kainz and her husband, Edward of Albuquerque, Sandra Clark of Los Angeles, CA, Robin Edwards and her companion, Ron Widner of Albuquerque; one son, James Atchison and his wife, Lisa of Overton, NC; brother, Russell Bern and his wife, Betty of Lake O' the Ozarks, MO; one sister, Mary Hanson and her husband, Donald of Waterloo, IA; seven grandchildren, Tyra Kai Nakai, Michael Gene Nakai, Jr., Alyse Harleen Kainz, Melissa Atchison, Brian Atchison, Justin Boyd Edwards, Jessica Rene Edwards; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Kimberly Atchison; and one brother, Howard Atchison. Mr. Atchison grew up in Independence, IA. He served in World War II as Pilot Liaison in the European Theater After the Service, he lived in Flagstaff, AZ. In 1972, he moved to Albuquerque and worked for Yellow Freight as a truck driver until his retirement in 1985. The family moved to Silver City in 1986 to manage the Burro Mountain Homestead. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and birdwatching. He was a 50 year member of the Silver City Elks; a 40 year member of the American Legion in Flagstaff, AZ. He was also a member of the Teamster Union in Phoenix, AZ for many years. His children's admiration for their father was filled with blessing and love from God. Covalt -- Louis Edward Covalt, 73, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, devoted son, husband, parent, grandparent and friend died Monday, December 3, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Nancy O. Covalt; children, Rebecca Covalt and husband, Buzz Kasner; Kathleen Covalt and husband, Art Lites; Martin Covalt; Kit Carson and wife, Jan; David Carson; Jane Cooley and husband, David; Mary Matteucci and husband, Brian; grandchildren, Cosmo and Bohn Covalt, Connor and Brandon Lites, Cale and Chelsea Carson, Tiffany Dawes, Max Carson, and Katie Cooley; mother-in-law, Helen Overton; and cousin, Sarah Huber. He was preceded in death by his mother, Johanna Kessler Covalt. Born September 3, 1928 in Evansville, Indiana, he was in the construction industry and a consultant for over 50 years. He was a member of Ballut Abayd Shrine Temple and band member, Rotary International and band member, and a George Harris Fellow. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was in the choir. Lou was a talented musician, a great storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor, and the life of every party. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
