Archibeque -- Tony Jose"Archie" Archibeque, 71, a resident of Albuquerque for 50 years, passed away on January 18, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Mille Archibeque of Albuquerque; children, Larry, Antoinette and Georgiann Archibeque all of Albuquerque; stepchildren, Enola Hollars and husband, Terry, Hazel Lieg, Raymond, John and Chris Harding all of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren including, Sara and Kristin Harding of the family home; one great-grandson; brothers, Jack Valencia and wife, Magalena of Las Cruces and Paul Archibeque and wife, Rosie of Bloomfield; sister-in-law, Evelyn Archibeque. Tony is preceded in death by a brother, Adoph Archibeque. He is also survived by his very helpful and caring friends, David Lujan, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Chavez and Jerry and Maryann Candelaria. Tony retired after 30 years of being employed by the Postal Service. He was a member of Santuario de San Martin Catholic Church and was also a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter #3. Tony enjoyed hunting, fishing and gambling. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary � Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW (3 blocks N. of Paseo del Norte) with Deacon Patrick Santistevan, reciting. Bateman -- Helen May McWilliams Bateman, age 102, a resident of Albuquerque, died January 19, 2003. Helen was born October 23, 1900 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. Survivors included her son, Samuel and his wife, Judith of Albuquerque; sister, Pauline of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and special grandson, Chuck Major of Moriarty. Helen was preceded in death by her son, Richard Bateman; husband, Carl F. Bateman and second husband, Richard Shockley. Helen grew up in Pennsylvania and Florida and moved to New Mexico in 1943 when Carl worked at Los Alamos. After retirement they moved to Albuquerque in 1967. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mae Ocana at Townerhouse for the care given. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2002 at Covenant Presbyterian Church 9315 Candelaria NE. Bruce -- Julie A. Bruce, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1931, died Monday, January 20, 2003 after a brief illness. She is survived by one son, Arnold Bruce and wife, Myra of Grandview, MO; two sisters, DeLora Moore of Rio Rancho, NM and Ruth Moore and husband, Folbert of Peralta, NM; one brother, Eddie Stout and wife, Margaret; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Campbell -- Ruth Rose Campbell, 71, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died on Saturday, January 18, 2003. She is survived by her husband, Bill Campbell of Albuquerque; sons, Bill Campbell III and wife Alyson of Peralta, NM, Gaylord T. Campbell and wife Roxanne of Albuquerque, and Kevin E. Campbell and wife Debora of Dana Point, CA; sister, Elaine Manicone and husband Michael of Downey, CA; grandchildren, Bryan Grandin of Peralta, NM, Juliette R. Campbell and Tanner S. Campbell, both of Albuquerque; and step-mother, Fern Zeisel of Albuquerque. Ruth was born and raised in OFallon, IL. She and Bill became high school sweethearts and then married in 1951. She was a valuable part of the family business, Bill Campbell Agency Realtors, since its inception, but she devoted and loved her family most of all. Carson -- Colonel Charles R. Carson, USAF (Ret), died Saturday, January, 18, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was 83 years old. Colonel Carson was a native of South Carolina and a 1940 graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. His military career spanned 30 years. He served his country during World War II in North Africa. He had multiple assignments in the continental United States, one of which was at the Pentagon. He and his family spent 3 years in Lakenheath England during the 1950's. He culminated his Air Force career as a Directorate Chief at Defense Atomic Support Agency. He retired in 1971, making Albuquerque home. He was a Senior Navigator and held the following decorations: The Legion of Merit, The Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; numerous other campaign and service medals and ribbons. He was an avid tennis player whose friends and family will miss his wonderful sense of humor. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carolyn; son, Charles R. Carson, Jr.; daughter, Cathy Carson Tschasar and Chris Carson Hyde; granddaughters, Cyndi Carson, Ashlee Hyde, Jessica Hyde and Kassandra Carson; grand-son, Austin Hyde. Colonel Carson was preceded in death by grandchildren Crista and Cristopher Carson, who are playing Yahtzee with Grandpa now. Centers -- Leita R. Centers went to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 18, 2003 at the age of 88. She was born in Carson City, MI in 1914 and a New Mexico resident of over 84 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Centers in 1969. She is survived by one brother, Jack R. Smith; sister, Edith Lanning; daughters, Helen Lester, Barbara Jennings and her husband, Ray S; son, Carol O. Centers and his wife, Linda; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2003. Deely -- Patrick Michael Deely Sr, was born in Albuquerque on January 23, 1957. He was a Veteran, having served in the US. Marine Corps. Furry -- Robert H. Furry passed away January 13, 2003. He was born on June 26, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana and was the beloved son of Paul Sheldon and Doris M. Furry, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters; Judy Holt of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Donna Giboney of Phoenix, AZ, Susan McGinnis of Huntington Beach, CA; son, Robert of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, the oldest of which is Doug Holt, a Firstie at West Point Military Academy; sisters, Betty J. Lanphere of Santa Fe, NM, Linda Ferreri of Woodstock, Maryland; brother, Garry Furry of Rio Vista, CA. Mr. Furry was a long-time radio and TV announcer and recently retired from KOAT-TV in Albuquerque. He was also the pre and post-game announcer for the Oakland Raiders National Football League team at radio station KNBR in San Francisco for several years. Mr. Furry was also the former Governor of the Southwest Region of the Optimist Club for several years; past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Kennedy Council #5729, a Fourth Degree member of Sangre de Cristo Assembly #2324; and past president AOH, Division One. Gallegos -- Mr. Ivan J. Gallegos, 36, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on January 18, 2003. Ivan is survived by his father, Alfonso L. Gallegos and wife, Geraldine; one sister, Yolanda Ruiz and husband, Marcello; three brothers, Isaac Gallegos and wife, Ramona, Alfonso Gallegos Jr. and wife, Linda, Ernest Martinez and wife, Tracy; grandmother, Eufelia Gallegos; grandfather, Ben Baca; one niece, Breanna Ruiz; one nephew, Justin Gutierrez; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Ivan is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret O. Gallegos and his grandfather, Cipriano Gallegos. Ivan was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed playing his guitar along with hot rods and cars. Glass -- Edward Beaumont Townsend Glass quietly left this world in his search for peace on January 7, 2003. Such a private, quiet, sensitive man, to him a collection of books, animals, music, crossword puzzles only interrupted by a bowl of lasagna meant the"world was his". His passion for postal history won him a national acclaim and he was often requested to judge national shows. His large circle of friends, scattered around the world, felt a loyalty, sensitivity and respect for Edward, truly one of a kind. Edward was born an Army brat of Col. and Mrs. E.L.N. Glass October 17, 1919 in Corsicana, TX. He was joined 12 years later by his brother, Dr. John B. Glass of Boston, MA. Ed graduated from the University of Texas in Architecture. In 1964, he was invited to the University of New Mexico as an assistant architect to architect, Van Dorn Hooker. He stayed with UNM for 20 years and felt fortunate to supervise the reconstruction of historic Hodgen Hall. A building now cherished by the alumni of UNM. Ed and his wife, Evangeline celebrated 58 years of marriage July 1, 2002. His wife, Evangeline; his brother, John; and a niece, Julie Glass survive him. Greaver -- Earl Randolph Greaver, age 82, born June 7, 1920 in Staunton, Augusta County, VA to Wilbert Eugene Greaver and Sadie Elizabeth Gregory, died January 18, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Wilson Greaver of the family home; son, Glenn and daughter-in-law, Nancy of Plattsmouth, NE; grandson, Aaron Randolph of the United States Air Force; granddaughter, Jamieson Lynn Greaver of Houston, TX; sister, Jane and brother-in-law, Bernard Malinowski of Arnold, Maryland; niece, Joann and husband, John Lamonica of Irving. TX; niece, Helen Simmons and husband, Stuart Keown of Denver, CO; lifelong friend, Frances Miller of Ruxton, MD; and many cousins and friends all over the United States and overseas. Earl, also known as"Randy" or"Doffy," attained adulthood in Baltimore County, MD. He entered the U.S. Army in 1940, transferred to the Army Air Corps (later known as the United States Air Force) in 1942 where he stayed until his retirement as a Major, Regular Air Force in 1967. He served in World War II in all theatres of operation and was in the 509th Bomb Wing that dropped the atomic weapons on Japan to end WWII. He served in Korea and Vietnam and was charged with manning the rescue operations during the Mau Mau insurrections in Africa in 1959-1961. A holder of many awards and decorations, he was most proud of his Air Medal for the first ten of 50 missions over Nazi Europe while a member of the 15th Air Force in Italy. He also participated in more than 50 nuclear tests, both atmospheric and underground at Kwajelien, Bikini, Eniwetok, Johnston Island and Christmas Island in the Pacific Proving Grounds, at the Nevada Test Site and one in Amchitka, Alaska. He always said that he had had the most interesting career of any man in the military services. During the last six years of his service he did double duty with an investigative (intelligence) arm of the U.S. Government. Earl was a lifetime member of the Retired Officers Association and the Disabled American Veterans. As a lifetime agnostic he requested that no religious services be conducted. Cremation has taken place and the cremains scattered.

Longhurst -- Joan Usher Longhurst, 84, of Lawrence, KS. A Memorial Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS. Cremation is planned and private inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, KS. She died on Sunday, January 19, 2003 at Brandon Woods Retirement Center in Lawrence, KS. Mrs. Longhurst was born August 22, 1918 in Brooklyn New York the daughter of George C. and May (Tow) Usher. She moved to Lawrence in 1963 from Corrales, NM. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan with both her undergraduate and Master's degrees in Psychology. She received her Doctorate from Columbia University, New York. Mrs. Longhurst was a research psychologist and had formerly worked for the Atomic Energy Commission at Sandia Corporation in New Mexico. After moving to Lawrence, KS she became the co-owner of the House of Usher Printing and Coronado Press in Lawrence. She was married to John E. Longhurst, September 13, 1914 in New York, NY. He preceded her in death February 26, 1983. Survivors include two daughters, Rachel C. Longhurst and Paula J. Curtis both of Lawrence; one son, David P. J. Longhurst, Lawrence, KS; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology Department in care of the LMH Endowment Association. Memorials may be sent to Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS.

Matthews -- Margaret E."Mickey" Matthews nee Davis passed away January 19, 2003 at the age of 82. She was a current resident of Olympia Fields, IL and was formerly of Albuquerque and Chicago's East Side. She was the beloved wife of Art; loving mother of Karen Grabill of Chicago, Gary (Carol) Matthews of Homewood; cherished grandmother of five; great-grandmother of one; and sister of the late Robert Davis. Mcelvaney -- William S. McElvaney, 91, long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2003 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to James Anderson McElvaney and Cordelia Texas Hunt McElvaney on June 10, 1911 in Ft. Worth, TX. He spent his early years on a farm in Clarendon, TX, moved to Monahans when he started school, and later graduated from Panhandle High School. He spent one year at Texas Tech but in 1929, had to return home to help support his family during The Depression. He married Lyka Drucille Merriman in 1940 while working for Humble Oil as a roughneck. Soon after he joined the Navy. He served in WWII and saw the flag raised in Iwo Jima. He returned home and had two daughters, Carol and Susan. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1950 where he worked for Sandia Labs until 1973. He did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels and also was active at the Senior Citizen Center. He loved to take long walks with his dog Beau and helped feed the prairie dogs near his apartment. He made friends wherever he went and was well loved by everyone. He is survived by his two daughters Carol Skaggs and her husband Kent, and Susan Davis. Also surviving him are his four grandchildren, Carols daughters, Sandra Long-Mendoza and husband Ernest, Stefanie Zbylut and husband Mark, Amy Dapolito and husband David, and Kyle Davis, Susan's son; and great-grandchildren, Marissa, Meghan and Mikayla Mendoza, Kaitlyn Zbylut and Jacob Dapolito. William is also survived by his brother Allen. He was preceded in death by his brother Malcolm and sister Ruby. She was the church organist and choir director at Northminister Presbyterian in Albuquerque for 13 years. Mrs. Mock was a member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was active in several women's groups. She and her husband, Henry E. Mock, owned and operated a homebuilding business. Services will be held Tuesday, 1:30 p.m., at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy Rd. NE, with Pastor Larry Moss officiating, with a reception following the services. Moya -- Ricardo Andres Moya, born December 17, 1938, died on Saturday, January 18, 2003 at home in the presence of his family. A local resident of Old Town, Ricardo was a gifted musician, artist and educator. He is survived by his children, Laura L. Moya, Louis A, Moya and Robert R. Moya; and by his former wife, Judith Anna Moya Underwood. Overton -- Dr. William Calvin Overton, Jr., Ph.D., 84, born October 26, 1918 in Dallas, Texas, died Friday January 17, 2003 of advanced Parkinson's Disease and heart failure at Espanola Hospital. Dr. Overton had been a resident of Los Alamos since 1962 where was very active in contributing to the community. He was Los Alamos County Assessor in 1966 and 67. He also was Chairman of Los Alamos Boy Scouts and was awarded the Silver Beaver. He was County Republican Chairman for two years. Having been a pilot since 1937, with many thousands of hours, he was compelled to join the Civil Air Patrol where he became Los Alamos Squadron Commander. He was later appointed New Mexico Wing Commander from November 1982 to October 1985. He flew in many search and rescue missions. In 1941 he joined the U.S. Army. He served in a radar unit on the East coast of England. Upon his return to the States he was promoted to Captain and served with the 17th Air Bourne Division as Company Commander of the Pathfinders at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He was discharged 1946. He then went to work in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he met and married Muriel Olsen, on November 27, 1946. Bill and Muriel moved to Houston, where Bill attended Rice University and in only three years received his Masters and Doctorate in Low Temperature Physics. After a few years of work in Washington, D.C. he came to Los Alamos National Laboratory where he continued his work in Low Temperature Physics and Superconductivity. He had numerous published papers and patents. He retired from the lab in 1986, he then returned to work for a short time and contributed to the development of a helmet to monitor brain activity. William C. Overton Jr. is survived by his wife, Muriel; son, John; daughter, Ellen; grandchildren, Andrea, Kristina, Erik, Bryon, Orin, Aaron, Graham, Johana, Natalie, Briget and Steve; great-granddaughter, Ophelia; nephew, Paul Hubbard; and many other relatives. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday January 22, 2003 at Berardinelli Family Funeral Service 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM. The burial services will be held at The Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the Los Alamos Inn at 5:30 p.m. Family, friends and neighbors are welcome. Prior -- Elizabeth W. Prior, 91, a longtime resident of Albuquerque died January 16, 2003. She is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Charles and his love, LuAnn Lindberg; daughter, Melanie Harris and husband, Thomas; grandchildren, Melissa Harris and Amy Sue Harris of Ft. Myers FL, Michelle and husband, Trey Reitz of Omaha, Robert Harris of Omaha, Thomas C. Harris of Tucson, and Sara Jane Harris of Tucson. We would like to thank the staff of Albuquerque Manor for their loving care during the past eight years. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. A Mass of Rememberance will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on February 9, 2003 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She was a loving Mother and great Gramie who will be missed. Rice -- Harwood T. Rice, 60, died Sunday, January 19, 2003. Roberts -- Rodney Roberts, 68, died Thursday, January 16, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Joan Roberts; daughter, Cheryl Alison and partner, Sandy Miller; sons, Eric Roberts and wife, Patricia and Kirk Roberts and wife, Renate; and seven grandchildren. Rodney served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church in New Mexico and West Texas for 37 years. Varela -- Our beloved"Grandpa Ed" Eduardo R. Varela, born June 16, 1916, took the hand of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe to be with the Lord Jesus, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 19, 2003, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carmen Varela; mother-in-law, Martha D. Vigil; and sister-in-law, Mabel Varela. He is survived by his sons, Arthur and wife, Isabel, Edwin and wife, Deborah, Alex and wife, Shannan; daughters, Eudelia and husband, Earl, Martha and husband, Tony, Bernadette and husband, Randy, and Laura Mae Dalton. He had 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Sabino R. Varela; sisters-in-law, Cleo Roybal, Lucy Vigil, Eva Lucero and husband, Rudy, Angie Gonzales and husband, Pete; brothers-in-law, Ramon I. Vigil and wife, Imelda, Ernie Vigil and wife, Vicky, Christobal Velarde; and numerous other relatives and friends. His faith in God, his spirituality, and his tremendous devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, were a principle part of his daily life. Mr. Varela touched the lives of everyone he met and most of the people in Pecos including the community of the Benedictine Monastery in a special way. He was a member of St. Anthony�s Parish, a well respected individual and was loved very much. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Varela was married to Carmen Vigil-Varela for 45 years and was blessed with four daughters and three sons. Mr. Varela was a millwright for 40 years, built his own sawmill free handedly and that was his livelihood. He worked hard all his life, and was a great example to his family, friends and everyone he knew. God saw that he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be; so he put his arms around him and whispered,"Come with me", with tearful eyes we watched him suffer and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard hands to rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best! Vigil -- Abrian G. Vigil, 49, went home to be with the Lord on January 17, 2003. He was born on March 24, 1953 in Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Vigil is preceded is death by his sisters, Mary Theresa Vigil and Nancy Vigil; and granddaughter, Shirelle. He is survived by his mother, Igenia Vigil; daughters, Pauline Purcella, Sarah Bland, Nancy Vigil and husband, Conan Reinhardt and Amanda Vigil; and to be son-in-law, Mario Vallejos; brothers, Carmel Vigil Jr. and wife, Joyce and Victor Vigil and wife, RoseMarie; sisters, Rita Phifer and husband, Donald, Sylvia Thompson and husband, Donald, E.
