LOPEZ, ANGIE SAAVEDRA a longtime Santa Fe resident, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 28 at Christus St. Vincent Hospital. Angie was the driving force of her family, a rock-solid matriarch exuding strength, compassion and an incredible zest for life. Blessed with a wealth of generosity, empathy and sense of humor, Angie touched everyone in her life. She was an exemplary wife, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, friend and an especially doting grandmother. She was the shining star who brightened everything and everyone in her path. Angie was born in Albuquerque and raised in the New Mexico communities of Tokay, San Pedro and Socorro. A devout Roman Catholic, she was active with the church and in the community, and made her family especially proud in the mid-1960s when she was honored as the top fund-raiser for the March of Dimes. Her absolute passion was gardening, especially tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, was an avid horse racing fan and supported her grandchildren in various sporting activities. Angie is survived by her son Walter K. Lopez (Santa Fe); daughter Linda DeBruyn, her husband Ed, son Eddie and daughter KK (Santa Fe); son Pat Lopez, his wife Mari, son Bosco (Santa Fe) and daughter DeAnza (Los Angeles); son Mark Lopez, his wife Catherine, daughters Ariana and Nina and son Dean (Albuquerque); her sister Sarah Vigil (Las Cruces); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Salomon; parents Onesimo and Dominica Saavedra; brother Pete Saavedra and sisters Alva Gonzales, Beatrice Romero and Rosa Peralta. Angie possessed an extraordinary presence and was just as beautiful in death as she was in life. And although she has entered into Our Lord's heavenly kingdom, her passing has created an irreplaceable void in our lives and she will be dearly missed. A rosary to celebrate Angie's life will be recited at 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, at Berardinelli Mortuary, 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, N.M., (505) 984-8600.
