BENAVIDES, ABE Ambrosio "Abe" Velasques Benavides age 93, was born on December 25th, 1920, in Peralta, New Mexico. A loving brother, father and grandfather, he passed away on Friday, September 19th, 2014. Abe worked hard his whole life and was thankful for every day he was given. He started working at a young age doing odd jobs to support his family. At age 18 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1942 he joined the US Army where he served as a Sergeant and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. After his service to our country, he worked at Mandell's Clothing Store for 15 years, and then worked as a salesman for Raby's Carpet for 40 years. Abe touched the lives of everyone who met him and he was deeply loved and respected. There is not a day that passed in his life that he didn't make someone smile. He loved gardening and the great outdoors. He was strong in his faith, loved his family, always had a smile on his face, and had a wonderful outlook on life. Any of us would be grateful to just have one ounce of the goodness in our hearts that Abe had. His beautiful contagious smile will be missed. A memorial service will be held in his honor at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd NW at 12pm on Tuesday, September 23rd.
