ABEITA, ANGUS E. Angus "Gus" Abeita, 62, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gus was born in Albuquerque to Diego Abeita and Mary Sarracino Abeita of Old Laguna, NM. In his life, Gus was an explorer who loved to travel and learn about different cultures and people. He lived in many places around the country in his early adult life and later in his professional career as a social worker working with Native American communities advancing policy for health, including child welfare and mental health. Throughout his professional career he always was in a position of helping people, from counseling individuals to helping to develop national policy. He was an Alumni of Albuquerque High School (1970), Rutgers University (1984), and NM Highlands (MSW 2000). He is survived by his three children, Mayera Abeita (Los Angeles, CA), Jessica Abeita (Boston, MA), and Jared Heller-Abeita (Albuquerque, NM); and his siblings, Cindy Ridenour, Evelyn Duran, Ethel Abeita, Bernadette Lorenzo, Madeline Winsand, Petra Eagle, Georgia Martinez, Mary Zuni, and Bernard Abeita; as well as 14 nieces and seven nephews. BRAND, CARL E. Carl E. Brand, husband, father and grandfather, age 83, passed away peacefully with family and close friends by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 56 years, Loretta; daughter, Melissa Sanchez and husband, Esteban; grandsons, Steven Sanchez and Ethan Sanchez; sisters, Carolyn Gleisberg, and Henrietta Mueller and husband Carl; nieces and nephews, David Gleisberg, Kristine Gleisberg, Steven Mueller and wife Michelle, and Kristen Mueller, along with extended family members and friends. Carl was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Edward Brand and Karla Biesemeier on June 13, 1931. Following high school, he proudly served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After his time in the service, Carl met Loretta on a blind date and they were soon married. They moved to Albuquerque in 1959 and built a life and raised a family. Carl received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of New Mexico and worked for Albuquerque Public Schools as a physical education and classroom teacher for 25 years. He was passionate about eating healthy, exercising, playing handball/ racquetball, and early morning bike rides. In his free time, he and his family would travel in their campers and explore new places. CHADWICK, GILBERT LEE (BUD) Gilbert Lee (Bud), passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2014. His working tools having forever slipped from his grasp. He was known by people in the trades as Whitey. He was born in Woodson, Arkansas on March 28, 1924. He served his country in the Army during WWII in the Pacific. He was a Master Mason for 57 years and belonged to the Ballut Abyad Shriners as a member of the Patrol. He now follows his two wives, Threcia and Donna; his sister Sue; his mother Carrie and his father John. He is survived by his two daughters and three step-sons. Lindia Summers and her husband Daniel, Jean Chadwick, Ron Hatcher, Edmun Hatcher and his wife Jeanne, Mark Hatcher and his wife Misty; three grandchildren, Sean Summers and his wife Jennifer, Danelle Summers and her husband Corey, Nicholas Hatcher; and two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Sara Summers. Bud enjoyed cooking and loved being with family and was a great supporter of animal rights. The pain of his passing will fade with time, but his memory will last forever. CORBETT, PATRICIA Age 77, went to be with her heavenly father on September 20, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ohio and has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1970. Pat is survived by her husband, Richard Corbett; children Pamela Penick, Shelly Johnson and Perry Penick; Richard's children Gayle Chaney and Steven Corbett; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She lived her life with her beloved husband, Richard. Pat was very active with the Assistance League, PEO, and was a docent at the zoo. She spent 25 years as a real estate broker. JARVIS, GLEN September 28, 1927 - September 21, 2014 Glen was born and raised in Oklahoma. He came to Santa Fe, NM, as a young man and resided there for over 60 years. Glen worked as a general contractor, building custom homes. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Eddie and Lewis. Glen is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bernette; three daughters, Carrie Freeman (Mark); Brenda Erikson (Scott) and Ronda Jarvis; five grandchildren, a sister-in-law and three nephews. His family wishes a special thank you to San Juan Living Center and Hopewest Hospice for Glen's care the past several months. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 1605 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe, NM, followed by burial at 1:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery. LEVY, JUAN CARLOS Juan Levy passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 leaving his loving wife, two sons and his grandson/best friend along with his much loved extended family and friends. Born to Julia and Rolf Levy on August 3, 1945 in Bogota, Colombia, Juan was the 2nd of five children (older brother Miguel and younger sisters Magda, Beatriz and Patricia). Following Miguel to the United States, Juan left Colombia to attend college in Indiana in 1965. As a student, Juan moved around the western United States ultimately settling in Albuquerque to finish his schooling at UNM. While a student at UNM, he met the love of his life, Kathy Cravens. In 1973, Juan and Kathy moved to Bogota, where they were married on April 27. They returned to Albuquerque for good ahead of the birth of their first son in 1975. Over the 40 years he lived in Albuquerque, Juan raised his boys, built a successful career and surrounded himself with friends and family. Honesty and loyalty are the values by which Juan lived and defined himself; honesty in how he lived his life and loyalty for those who shared it with him. He was a great friend, an amazing dad and even better grandfather, but most of all he was a husband who loved his wife. He will be missed by all who knew him.

SUTTON, PATRICIA (TRICIA) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, age 69, died peacefully in her sleep on June 11, 2014 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She is survived by her daughter Kendel (Steve) Ritter; son Joseph (Jessica) Soban; grandchildren Brook Lynn, Stephen, Abigail, and Joseph IV; brother Chris (Pam) Sutton; sisters Colleen Cawthon and Kelly (Scott) Bowen; nieces Robyn, Courtney and Marissa; and nephews Eric and Christian. Tricia was predeceased by her parents Raymond (Tip) and Patricia (Fisher) Sutton of Linwood, New Jersey. She spent 30 years teaching high school English primarily at Toms River East High School in Toms River, New Jersey, retiring in 1998 when she moved to Albuquerque. During her retirement she was involved in Albuquerque Newcomers Club, New Mexico Gourd Society, Bead Society of New Mexico and Fiber Arts. She won numerous awards at the New Mexico State Fairs in Albuquerque and Socorro for her craft work and was a craft instructor at Meadowlark Senior Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Always active she enjoyed going on cruises, researching her family tree, knitting and a variety of other crafts and in 2012 authored the book "One Gourd at a Time: A Beginners Guide". Most of all, she cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. Her cremation was handled by Daniels Funeral Home and the arrangements were private at the request of the family.

THOMAS, JOSEPH B. A resident of Albuquerque since 1978, passed away on September 17, 2014. He is survived by his parents, George B. and M. Douglas Thomas; and his siblings, Jerry S. Thomas (Susanne) and Deborah Klose (Benjamin). He is also survived by his much loved nieces and nephews, Lowell Thomas, Katherine Thomas, Michael Klose, Sarah Klose and John Klose. Joe was employed by CEI, Inc. for 20 years and reached the position of Telecommunication Engineering Manager. Joe was a very proud member of AA and recently celebrated ten years with them. During those ten years, he helped many others to change their lives. He leaves a hole that can never be filled. THOMPSON, JAMES J. Memorial services for James J. Thompson will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of French's Mortuary on Lomas just East of Eubank. There will be a reception immediately following. All are welcome to share a favorite memory of Jim. Born October 22, 1940, Jim died August 4, 2014, from a brain tumor. Jim passed away as he lived - with courage, dignity, and warm kindness. Jim lived an extraordinary life, and leaves behind family and friends who adore and admire him. Throughout his long career as a Health Physicist-first at Lovelace Inhalation Toxicology Institute until 1994; then at University of Utah from 1994 until 2001; then at Sandia National Labs, from where he retired in 2011-Jim worked tirelessly to research and implement the highest standards of workplace health and safety. While raising his three sons, Jim went to every possible sports event, science fair, school play and recital. He loved the Boy Scouts and was extremely proud that his three sons each earned the Eagle Scout badge. One of his greatest joys was seeing the career successes of boy scouts in their adult lives. Jim was an honorable, humorous, keenly intelligent, and warmly caring person. TORRES, TOMAS E. age 75, (El Charro De Nuevo Mexico) born in Chilili, New Mexico and a resident of Peralta, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, Thursday, September 25, 2014. Mr. Torres is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Terry; his loving daughter, Terri Torres; son, Tomas Torres Jr.; brother, Eddie Torres; seven sisters, Lydia Flores and husband, Larry, Sally Sedillo, Mary Garcia and husband, Hector, Lucille Aragon and husband, Samuel, Gloria Rhodes and husband, Bob, Vicki Nieto and husband, Manuel, Louise Maestas; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Torres was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Morima Torres; brothers, Wilfred Torrez, and Joe J. Torres. Mr. Torres was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
