Nix -- Donald R. Nix, age 61, a resident of Sapello, New Mexico passed away on Friday, May 10, 2002 at his home. He was born on November 1, 1940 near Capitan, New Mexico to Bill and Laila Nix. He graduated from high school in Moriarty, New Mexico where he was active in track and FFA. He worked on various ranches around New Mexico and Arizona before moving to Holbrook, Arizona in 1975, where he was employed by United Parcel Service. He was active in the community and served on the Navajo County Fair Board of Directors. He retired in 1999 and moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico, where he enjoyed his many friends and team roping. He loved his family, friends and good times visiting and telling jokes. He will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Geney Nix of the family home in Sapello, NM; daughter, Sandia Hall of Grand Canyon, Arizona; son, Robert Nix and wife, Debra and their three children, Elizabeth, Cheyenne and Kaleb Nix all of Waco, Texas; two sisters; two brothers; five nieces and nine nephews. Memorial Services will be conducted on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rogers Chapel. Cremation has taken place. Flowers have not been omitted, however, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, C/O Ernestine Chavez, PO Box 3210, Las Vegas, NM 87701. Smith -- Donald James"DJ" Smith, 43, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Monday, May 13, 2002. He is survived by his sons, James Joseph Smith and Jerod Christopher Smith, both of Moriarity; parents, Don and Darlene Smith of Sandia Park, NM; sister, Patricia D. Rael and husband, Florian of Moriarity, NM; brothers, Jerry Smith and Terry Smith, both of Sandia Park, NM; grandmothers, Eva Killingsworth of Clovis, NM and Janie Garner and husband, Ronnie of Ridgeway, SC. Services will be held Friday, 17, 2002, 2:00 p.m., at Community Church of the Sandias in Sandia Park, NM, with Rev. Mack Bernard officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Valley Cemetery in Barton, NM. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Baker -- Elma Norene McFarland Baker, 87 went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2002 surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Baker, a native of New Mexico, born in Roswell, New Mexico on February 25, 1915 to Dan and Vina McFarland was raised on the Block Ranch. Elma retired from the Visiting Nursing Service in 1977. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Los Alamos Chapter, and a member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church. Mrs Baker was a resident of Three Fountains Apartment for three years. She is preceded in death by her husband Luther Vernon Baker in 1961; two brothers J.D. McFarland of Carlsbad, New Mexico and William McFarland of Tennessee. She is survived by her three children, son, Gary Dean Baker and wife, Patsy, of Thornton, Colorado; daughter, Dinah Jean Robinson and husband, Frank, of Albuquerque; son, John Caleb Baker, and wife, Barbara of Albuquerque; sister, Mozelle Edgar and husband, Donald, of Tennessee; David McFarland and wife, Jesse, of Roswell; sister, Lena Mae Hobbs, of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Barbara Ann Rappenecker and husband, Steve, of Colorado, Rebecca McElyea and husband, Tim, of North Carolina; Deborah Dean Baker of North Carolina; Tammy Halliburton and husband Donn of Albuquerque; Erick Robinson and Joy Robinson both of Albuquerque; step-grandchildren, Karen Gonzalez and husband, John and Kelly Parrish all of Albuquerque; great Grandchildren, Nathan, Danielle, Nicholas, Mikayah, Bethany, Brittany, Jacob Halliburton all of Albuquerque, Lensey McElyea of North Carolina; two step great grandchildren; John Austin and Julia Anne Gonzalez of Albuquerque; numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife, Leta of the family home; brother, Donald (Lucille) of Las Cruces, NM; nieces, Diane Cowden of Riverton, Iowa, Faydean Smith of Hamburg, Iowa; and other nieces and nephews from Albuquerque. Retired from LANL in 1982 as an Airport Supervisor. Following cremation a Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2002 in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave SE. Padilla -- Our beloved mother, daughter and sister, Dorothy Annette Padilla, passed away May 7, 2002. Her father, Tony A. Garcia, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Richard Gonzales and Dustin Padilla; a daughter, Tracy Padilla; her mother, Emma Garcia; a brother, Anthony Garcia; and nephew, Dominic Garcia.
