Akin -- V. Margaret Booth Akin, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1918, died at home of natural causes on Saturday, May 11, 2002. She was the daughter of Carl Booth and Bessie Shaver Booth. Ms. Akin attended the old Armijo School on Isleta Blvd. and graduated with the Albuquerque High School class of �32. She shared her love of dance with her students at the Akin School of Dance in Santa Fe and Albuquerque during the early �50's, as well as leading the award-winning dance troupe of the Ballut Abyud Shrine�s Order of the White Star. She also served as Grand Worthy Matron for the Albuquerque Chapter of the Daughters of the Nile. In 1954, Ms. Akin completed her nurse's training at St. Joseph Hospital's Regina School of Nursing. Passionately dedicated to nursing, she worked at St. Joseph's Hospitals in both Albuquerque and in Wichita, Kansas, where her work led her to meet and adopt one of her patients, a developmentally disabled newborn, and to become a life-long champion for the disabled. Ms. Akin is survived by a son, Ron Akin; a daughter, Laurie Ann Akin; sisters, Elva Louise Whitney, Jean Carol Trosper, and Laura Mae Dorn; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and countless friends who will remember and miss our family historian and story-teller for her qualities of compassion, charm, humor, gracious warmth to all, and for her indomitable strength of spirit�bordering on sheer stubbornness�that have inspired all who have known and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Bessie; her brothers, Carl, Jr. and Dan; and a sister, Bessie Hopkins. Atkinson -- Robert D. Atkinson, beloved son of (mom) Tara M. Atkinson and (dad) Dwayne A. Atkinson, died at 11:42 a.m., Sunday, May 12, 2002 at University Hospital of New Mexico. Robbie was born Monday, January 10, 1994 in Albuquerque. He attended 2nd grade at Osuna Elementary School where he enjoyed his teacher and classmates. He was enrolled at Eubank Day School for 6 years where he played with his friends and teachers before and after school. Robbie loved outdoors, especially camping, fishing, swimming and having water gun and balloon fights, riding his bike and playing with his soccer and basketball with his neighborhood friends. He was a very loving and caring child to everyone he met. He overcame many obstacles in his short little life, including health problems such as hernia surgeries, RSV (lung virus), asthma and migrational seizures. Despite all of this adversity, he was a happy, vibrant, very much loved little boy. He was his mother's"Big Guy." His mother and father in Albuquerque, grandparents and great-grandparents in New Mexico and Texas, his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends survive him. Robert will be greatly missed. He is in the hands of our Lord. Services will be held Thursday, May 16, 2002, 2:00 p.m. at Believers Center of Albuquerque located at 320 Waterfall Dr. SE. Bamforth -- John"Bammer" Bamforth Jr., 41, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, May 12, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Bamforth of Albuquerque; sons, John Bamforth III of Portales, Scott Bamforth and Bryan Faifer, both of Albuquerque; parents, John Sr. and Ann Bamforth of Georgetown, DE; brother, Tim Bamforth and wife, Monique of Rehoboth Beach, DE and nephews, Ben and Jake; brother, Chris Bamforth; and sister, Heather Bamforth, both of Georgetown, DE. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy. Mr. Bamforth loved playing softball and basketball with his friends. He also enjoyed hosting tailgate parties, pool parties and backyard barbecues. Crowder -- Sylvia Crowder, 77, who first moved to Albuquerque in 1932, died on Sunday, May 12, 2002. She suffered with emphysema but passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side. She is survived by her daughter, Carolie Jornigan; son, Gerald W. Crowder and wife, Kathryn; grandchildren, Wendy Deluca, Matthew Crowder, Nathan Crowder and his wife, Brandy, all of Albuquerque; sister, Jane Echohawk; brother, Dorsey Conrad and wife, Jeanetta; numerous nieces, nephews; and many friends. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, John and Josephine Conrad; her brother, David; and her husband of 52 years, Kenneth. Sylvia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her skills as a cook, homemaker, and seamstress were unsurpassed and a joy to her husband and family. She and her husband, traveled extensively on his work assignments across the U.S. and in South America. Day -- Paul Day, 72, passed away peacefully on Mother's Day, May 12, 2002. He was born on February 1, 1930, in the village of Paraje, Laguna Pueblo. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Satala Day. He was a recipient of two Purple Heart medals of the Korean War and a member of the"Chosin Few." He served in the Marines and Air Force of the U.S. Armed Forces and received numerous medals, ribbons, and awards for military service from 1948 to 1959. He attended the Albuquerque Indian School and received a B.S. in Criminology from the University of Albuquerque in 1975. He was a member of the Arizona Territorial Gourd Society, Phoenix, Arizona. He retired from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) as an investigator with the Phoenix office in 1989. He resided in Phoenix, Arizona and Albuquerque, NM. He will be remembered and greatly missed by his six children, Michael Day, Brenda Shanta, Chalmers Day, Julie Buckman, Paul Stewart, and Laura Day; mother, Marie Day; sister, Emelia; four brothers, David, Lewis, Victor and Eugene; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a large extended family. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at Eastern Hill Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE. Interment will follow service at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Dominguez -- Eliza Dominguez, 90, went home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2002 at 8:53 p.m. at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born on August 12, 1911. Eliza was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Sacred Heart Alter Society, Legion Of Mary and served in the Barelas Community for many years. She is survived by her son J. Charles Dominguez; daughter Gloria Dominguez Williams; grandsons, Dominic Williams and Aaron Dominguez and friend, Christine Chavez; niece, Aurora Hughes; grand-nieces, Emilie Jean Chavez and Linda Ware and husband, Frank all of Albuquerque; great-niece, Michelle; great-nephews, David Chavez, Desi Chavez and Nicholas Martinez, nephew Joe Aragon and wife, Concha; niece, Ramona Maestas of Las Vegas, NM. Eliza will be deeply missed by her loving family. Elliott -- Euleta J. Elliottt was born on June 30, 1908 to Clinton and Maude Tumblin in Wymore, NE and passed away on May 13, 2002 in Belen, NM. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sioux Falls, SD, a past president of the Rebekah Lodge in Deadwood, SD, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belen. She married her beloved Charles E. Elliott in June 8, 1925 and was preceded in death by him in 1984; her parents, Clinton Tumblin and Maude Brown; two brothers, and one sister, her daughter, Treva Jerane Elliott, and a son, James Elliott. She is survived by two daughters, Beverley Hunt and her husband, Robert of Omaha, NE; and Shirley Lindsay of Belen; one daughter-in-law, Rita Elliott of Reno, NV; two grandsons; five granddaughters; eleven great-grandchildren; and two step great-granddaughters. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Belen with Pastor Ed Wicklein officiating. Interment will take place in Blue Springs, NE. Fogel -- Richard Fogel, 47 of Massachusetts died of heart disease on May 10, 2002 in Provincetown, MA while camping with his family. The son of Joan and Louis Fogel, Ricky was born in Grand Rapids, MI in 1954. He attended East Grand Rapids High School, graduated from University of Michigan Residential College in 1980 and earned a Masters of Education from the University Massachusetts/Amherst in 1983, a Masters of Science in Community Economic Development from New Hampshire College in 1986 and a Certificate in Elementary and Secondary Education from the University of New Mexico/Albuquerque in 1996. Ricky married Mary Dent in 1988. They traveled widely, living and working in South and Central America, New Mexico, Wisconsin and Michigan as wewll as in western Massachusetts. Ricky was an educator and community organizer. He worked at Wellness Networks in Traverse City from 1990 to 1992 and was most recently employed as the Outreach and Communications Coordinator at the Food Bank Farm in Hadley, MA. Ricky touched so many lives and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Ricky is survived by his wiffe, Mary; sons, Louis, nine and Jack, five; brothers, Steven of Williamstown, MA, Davide of Federal Way, WA, Dan of Grand Rapids, MI, and Noton of Ann Arbor, MI; one niece, nine nephews, an aunt and an uncle. Garcia -- Lorensita S. Garcia, 81, a resident of Belen, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2002. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Preceding her in death were her husband, Ramon Garcia in 1993; and her parents, Rodrigo and Rita Sanchez. She is survived by her son, Danny and his wife, Nellie of Belen; two grandchildren, Valine Griego and her husband, Orlando; and Tricia Garcia and her husband, Shawn; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Brianna Griego; and three sisters, Lugarda Fields; Susie Sanchez and her husband, Adolfo; and Lillie Kirchner and her husband, Ted. Greenidge -- Marjorie P. Greenidge, 91, a 15-year resident of Albuquerque, was called home to the Lord on Saturday, May 11, 2002 after a lengthy illness. Jordan -- Ronald Vernon Jordan, 78, of Albuquerque, died on Monday, May 13, 2002, after a two year battle with cancer and leukemia. He is survived by his wife, Betty Keene Jordan, and by their four children: Valorie Lynn Perrin, Kristine Kay Raubinger (and husband, Michael Raubinger), Steven Ray Jordan and Kimberly Ann Greenhouse. His grandchildren are Aaron Cole, Danielle Cole-Nix, Nicole Greenhouse, Vanessa Greenhouse and Wesley Perrin. Born in Gowan, Michigan on February 11, 1924, Ron later was proud to serve his country as a bomber pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He went on to serve 10 years of active military duty and 10 years as an Air Force reservist. Ron married his high-school sweetheart and the only love of his life, Betty L. Keene, in 1945, and they shared their 56th wedding anniversary last July. Ron earned a living for his family as a salesman, a profession well suited to his outgoing personality. He was a longtime member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church where he and his wife developed many close friendships. Mills -- Lorene Hartley Mills died May 13, 2002. Lorene was born February 24, 1918, to Plumis Burdine Hartley and Martha Paradine (Potts) Hartley of Hollene, NM. Lorene was a public school teacher having taught at Claud, Artesia and Texico. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for women educators. She supported her husband of 64 years, Vernon R. Mills, retired Clovis and Artesia school superintendent. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Clovis where she sang in the choir. Vernon and Lorene recently moved from Clovis to Albuquerque where they have resided at the Woodmark Uptown assisted living facility. Nix -- Donald R. Nix, age 61, a resident of Sapello, New Mexico passed away on Friday, May 10, 2002 at his home. He was born on November 1, 1940 near Capitan, New Mexico to Bill and Laila Nix. He graduated from high school in Moriarty, New Mexico where he was active in track and FFA. He worked on various ranches around New Mexico and Arizona before moving to Holbrook, Arizona in 1975, where he was employed by United Parcel Service. He was active in the community and served on the Navajo County Fair Board of Directors. He retired in 1999 and moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico, where he enjoyed his many friends and team roping. He loved his family, friends and good times visiting and telling jokes. He will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Geney Nix of the family home in Sapello, NM; daughter, Sandia Hall of Grand Canyon, Arizona; son, Robert Nix and wife, Debra and their three children, Elizabeth, Cheyenne and Kaleb Nix all of Waco, Texas; two sisters; two brothers; five nieces and nine nephews. Memorial Services will be conducted on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rogers Chapel. Cremation has taken place. Romo -- Rosa"Roti" Romo passed away on Friday, May 10, 2002. Rosa was born in Santa Rosa, NM and was a resident of Santa Fe, NM and recently of Albuquerque. She is survived by her daughter, Gina Romo-Vialpando; her three grandchildren, Larry Jr., Christina and Ryan; and former son-in-law, Larry Sr., who was always like a son to her. Saunders -- Joe B. Saunders, 77, passed away May 8, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Bette of the home; daughter, Suzanne Cooke and her husband, Frank of St. Charles, MO; son, Michael and his wife, Tina of Albuquerque; brothers, Gene Saunders of Amarillo, TX and Lynn Saunders of Portland, OR; six grandchildren, Brandon, Brian, Shannon, Shelby, Alison and Lauren. Shelton -- Ruth I. Chapin Shelton "Nanny." 99, a resident of Albuquerque for 46 years, passed away on May 13, 2002. She is survived by 2 daughters, Marilyn Martinez and husband, Charles of Michigan and Madeline Christiansen and husband, William of Florida; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1985; two sons, Wendell and Neale Derickson and one granddaughter, Diane. She was a member of the Monte Vista Christian church. Ruth raised four children alone during the middle of the Depression and also supported her family as a Seamstress and enjoyed furniture upholstery. Speegle -- Robert (Wink) Speegle, 82, a 50-year resident of Hobbs and more recently Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jewell Speegle; son, Doug Speegle and wife, Paula, son, Richard Speegle and wife, Diana; daughter, Dona Hue Hampton and husband, Loy; five grandchildren, Shelley and husband, Jesse Simmons, Ross Hampton, Jennifer and husband, Kent Messer, Eric Speegle, Nick Speegle and one great-granddaughter, Ryane Simmons. Wink was born in Barry, Texas, November 14, 1919 and served in the United States Army during World War II. He lived in Hobbs for 50 years and retired from Daniel's Insurance Agency and First Equity Realtors. He was a member of Hobbs Realty Insurance Club and American Business Club. He was a big Hobbs Eagles and UNM Lobo fan, and active member of Hoffmantown Church all of which brought him great joy. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Services will be held at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas NE, Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Ken Moore officiating. Trottier -- Mary"Lorraine" Trottier, age 74, and a resident of Albuquerque, NM for 43 years, died Saturday, May 11, 2002. She was born in Williston, ND on September 30, 1927. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Bernier; her mother, Marcella Bernier; and her sister, Dolores Bernier. She is survived by her loving husband, Roland Trottier; four children, Gary Trottier and wife, Cathi of Colorado Springs, CO, Mary Towns and husband, Tony of St. Petersburg, FL, Ilene Morosetti and husband, Jeff of DeBary, FL, and Les Trottier and wife, Laura of San Juan Capistrano, CA; nine brothers and sisters; six grandchildren, Sean and Tracey Trottier, Michelle Kaemerer and husband, John, Caine Towns, and Jonathon and Melissa Trottier; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002 with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday in Chapel of Sandia, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE, with Fr. Richard Olona as Celebrant. Trujillo -- Chris Trujillo, 21, a lifelong resident of Los Lunas, died Friday, May 10, 2002. He is survived by his maternal grandmother, Laverne Hitchcock of Los Lunas; paternal grandparents, Antonio and Vivian Trujillo of Hagerman, NM; parents, Tony and Jeannine Trujillo; sister, Windy Stringham and husband, Lance; brother, Antonio Trujillo and wife, Jennifer; nieces, Janessa and Delila Trujillo; nephew, Antonio Trujillo, all of Los Lunas; and a large extended family and many friends.
