BURTON -- Francis C. "Frank" Burton, age 90 of Albuquerque, passed away on June 19, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife Anne of 25 years. He was born in Bethany, WV. On March 4, 1919 to William N. and Florence Burton. Frank graduated from the University of New Mexico, received a certificate from the Bureau of Highway Traffic at Yale University. He worked in Transportation Engineering in Albuquerque, Colorado, Seattle, Atlanta and Cairo, Egypt. He served in WWII 798th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a member of the Nat. Honorary Civil Engineering Fraternity and as actively involved with the friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. Frank also loved gardening. He was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel of Follansbee, WV; and sister, Arline of Miles, Ohio; his son-in-law, William Hile Sr.; and his grandson, William Leo Hile, Jr. Frank is survived by his sisters, Beulah Campbell of Stowe, Ohio, Bessie Eddy of Follansbee, WV, Jean Armstrong and her husband Leo of Hemet, CA; his brother, Alan and his wife Donna of Fairview NC; his daughter, Corene Hile of Mesa, Arizona; his granddaughters, Mary Michelle of Yonkers, NY., Linda of Cleveland Heights, OH; grandson Charles and wife Sarah of Richmond, VA; sons-in-law of Albuquerque, Steve Gallea and his wife Linda, Alan Gallea; grandchildren, Eric, Roy and Elizabeth Gallea; and great-grandchildren, Connor and Ashley Hile, Caiden and Mia Gallea. Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 4:00 p.m., at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria Rd NE. Private Inurnment in Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. HORTON -- Eleanor G. Horton, 83, passed from this earthly life on Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Albuquerque Kaseman Presbyterian Hospice. Preceded in death by her parents Hattie and John Horton; and her brothers Lindley and Lowell Horton. Eleanor was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on August 31, 1925. The youngest of six children, she was four years old when the family moved from Arkansas to Albuquerque, New Mexico. There she graduated from Albuquerque High School and attended some college at the University of New Mexico. Eleanor and her mother moved to Long Beach, California in the late 1940's, where she worked in the histology department of the VA Hospital and Long Beach Memorial. After the passing of her mother, Eleanor moved to Roseburg, Oregon where she worked at Douglas Community Hospital. She also volunteered with Friendly Kitchen, Mercy Hospital and the VA Hospital. Eleanor returned to Albuquerque in 2001 to care for her sister Mildred. One of Eleanor's passions was researching family history. She made trips to old graveyards, to Salt Lake City, and spent many hours at the library. She liked to travel to see places where long ago relatives lived. Going for drives with friends, bird watching, a little casino playing and stopping for "a bite to eat" were also favorite pastimes. One never got hungry going somewhere with Eleanor. Eleanor is survived by her sister Mildred Stamps of Albuquerque; her brother Alvin W. Horton of Pasadena, California; her sister Mary Little of Roseburg, Oregon; her nephew Charles Horton of Mill Creek, Washington and his wife and their children Jeff and Greg Horton; and her niece Carolyn Stuart of Roseburg, Oregon. A Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico at 10 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2009. Giving the blessing will be her great-nephew, Pastor Jeff Horton of Shoreline, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice. Thank you to the staff of Presbyterian Hospital and Kaseman Hospice for the kindness and care of Eleanor's final days.

SCANNELL -- Charles Timothy Scannell, age 78, was born in Colorado Springs, CO on March 25, 1931. Moved to Albuquerque in 1946 and graduated from Albuquerque High in 1949. Tim went to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife, Rolla Jean Scannell; his children Kathy Goss and husband Dan, Lynn Binder and Geno, Beth Trujillo and husband Dave, Clif Scannell and wife Bridget, Tim Scannell and wife Tiffany, and step-son Rand Waddingham. He has 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Alice Matney and husband Mike; and number of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He is preceded in death by five sisters; and his parents Joseph Scannell, and Elizabeth Black, and step-father Archie Black. He took great pride in his work, owing and running Scannell Surveying, Inc. with his son Tim. After retiring in 2005, he enjoyed spending time with his family and spending time with Rolla in the Jemez, enjoying the outdoors. He was a gracious, loving, forgiving man, always putting others before himself. He will be greatly missed. Revelation 21:3-4. WILLIAMS -- Norene Vidal Williams died at her home in Concord, California at the age of 92 on June 16, 2009. Norene was born in Farmington and spent her childhood in Crystal, New Mexico on the Navajo Reservation, where her parents, Charles and Madge Newcomb had a trading post for many years. Norene went to school at the Loretta Academy in Santa Fe, graduated from Gallup High School and attended the University of New Mexico. She taught elementary school in the Gallup area for two years, and then in 1938, she married her childhood sweetheart, Johnnie Vidal. They had three children, John R. Vidal, M. Christine Paynton and Timothy J. Vidal. Johnnie owned and operated Vidal Hardware in Gallup until his death at the age of 37 in 1951. Norene raised her children in Gallup, attended the Episcopal Church, and served on the boards and committees of the New Mexico Council on Crime and Delinquency, Girl Scouts, Gallup Public Library Board, the Episcopal Church, United Way, Heart Drive and Cancer Drive. She was on the P.E.O. State Board for many years, and served as State President of P.E.O. in New Mexico in 1964. In 1974, she married Charles Williams, who owned Navajo Motors in Gallup and raised Appaloosa horses on a small ranch south of Gallup. Charles had three children and six grandchildren. He died in 1996. Norene is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren: Richard C. Vidal, Kelly K. Fuhst, Earle F. Paynton, III, Tiffany N. Silveira, Jeffrey M. Paynton, Daniel C. Vidal, Benjamin D. Vidal and T. Jonathan Vidal; and twelve great grandchildren. Norene was a beautiful and graceful woman whose life had a powerful impact on the lives of many people, and she will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 1334 Country Club Drive in Gallup at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009. Donations can be made to a charity of choice if desired.

BRAND -- Bernadette Gunn Brand, 68, the loving mother of five children, passed away on June 15, 2009 after a long illness. She is survived by two daughters, Darleen Kosick and Lisa Brand; three sons, Tom Kosick, Scott Brand, and Michael Brand, all of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by her twin sister Eileen Stewart of Albuquerque, NM; her sister, Dorothy O'Sullivan of New Jersey; her brother Walter Gunn of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; along with many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Brand; her brother, Hugh S. Gunn, Jr.; along with her mother and father. GONZALES -- Elsie G. Gonzales, 78, a resident of Albuquerque entered into rest on June 16, 2009. Mrs. Gonzales is survived by her husband, Mr. Florencio Gonzales; three children, Lilly Kutzscher and husband, Richard, Johnny Vigil and Adelina Vigil; two stepchildren, Rudy Gonzales and Mike Gonzales and wife, Janice; three sisters, Frances Vigil, Elma Espinoza and husband, Alfred, and Sylvia Baca and husband, Boni; brother, Cayetano Garcia and wife, Vicky; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Gonzales was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Anita Garcia; brothers, Jake and Manuel Garcia; and sister, Mary Worley. Visitation will be Friday, June 19, 2009 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Gabaldon Mortuary in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel. LOPEZ -- Ninfa (Jimenez) Lopez, a longtime resident of Las Cruces, NM passed away Friday, June 12, 2009 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband Juan Antonio (J.A. Tony) Lopez; and siblings, Ruth Jimenez, William Jimenez, David Jimenez and Tony Jimenez. Ninfa is survived by her daughter, Beverly Lopez and husband, Joseph Buday; granddaughters, Areth and Callan Buday; her siblings, Ernest Jimenez and his wife, Theva of La Junta, CO, Josephine Stassinos of Albuquerque, Eli Jimenez of Oregon City, OR, Elizabeth Romero of Santa Fe, NM, and Charles Jimenez and his wife, Linda of Albuquerque; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was born on March 28, 1919 in Palomas, NM. She married Tony Lopez of Holbrook, AZ on June 10, 1944. After World War II she and Tony moved to Las Cruces, NM to start a new life together. Ninfa worked as a bilingual teacher with the Las Cruces Public Schools and also with an experimental bilingual program for children at NMSU. She enjoyed a good game of canasta with her friends and loved gardening around her house. She will be remembered for her strong spirit and wonderful cooking. Ninfa was very much loved and will be sorely missed by all.
