ARAGON -- Andrew Aragon of Belen, New Mexico, devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, ended his journey on earth Saturday, June 20, 2009. He is now rejoicing eternally with his beloved savior Jesus Christ. Andrew is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Aragon of Belen; his children, Sheri and Christina Aragon of Albuquerque; father, Andres Aragon of Albuquerque; brother, Gilbert Aragon of Belen; sisters, Adela Candelaria and husband, Arturo Candelaria, Lillian Garcia, Therese McDonald and husband, Paul McDonald, of Albuquerque, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ninfa Aragon of Belen; sister, Rosemary Aragon of Belen; grandparents, Adela and Nacianceno Molina of Belen. Andrew was born in Belen, NM on March 25, 1950. He graduated from Belen High School in 1968. Andrew obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of New Mexico. His career in education spanned 30 years where he was a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Andrew was known for his love of life, his family, and for the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman and experienced pilot. Andrew will be sorely missed by his friends and family. A visitation for Andrew will be held at French - Wyoming Chapel, on Wednesday June 24, 2009 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be held at the Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to N.M. BENNETT -- Leon Bennett, 78, peacefully passed away Friday, June 19, 2009. He was born June 15, 1931, the son of Howard Leon and Minnie Irene Muskatt Bennett. He married the love of his life, Mary Louise Merritt, August 15, 1959. She passed away April 18, 1976. The vast majority of his career was spent with KOB TV as a news photographer, editor, and newsman. Leon was a member of the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a die-hard Oakland Raiders fan and his favorite hobby was photography, he also loved to collect things. Survivors include James R. Merritt, beloved step-son, Santa Clarita, CA; Donald G. Merritt, son, Antelope, CA; Mary Lou Raspall, beloved daughter, Vero Beach, FL; Thomas D. Merritt, son; Hollywood, FL; Jane Merritt-McKenna, daughter, Candelaria, TX; John Merritt, step-son; Lakewood, CO; Robert Merritt, beloved step-son; Ingleside, IL; Joan Golder, beloved cousin, Wanetka, IL; grandchildren; Donnella Hanks-Montoya, Dharma and Angel Merritt, and Casey Vivian and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins. BURTON -- Francis C. "Frank" Burton, age 90 of Albuquerque, passed away on June 19, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife Anne of 25 years. He was born in Bethany, WV. On March 4, 1919 to William N. and Florence Burton. Frank graduated from the University of New Mexico, received a certificate from the Bureau of Highway Traffic at Yale University. He worked in Transportation Engineering in Albuquerque, Colorado, Seattle, Atlanta and Cairo, Egypt. He served in WWII 798th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a member of the Nat. Honorary Civil Engineering Fraternity and as actively involved with the friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. Frank also loved gardening. He was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel of Follansbee, WV; and sister, Arline of Miles, Ohio; his son-in-law, William Hile Sr.; and his grandson, William Leo Hile, Jr. Frank is survived by his sisters, Beulah Campbell of Stowe, Ohio, Bessie Eddy of Follansbee, WV, Jean Armstrong and her husband Leo of Hemet, CA; his brother, Alan and his wife Donna of Fairview NC; his daughter, Corene Hile of Mesa, Arizona; his granddaughters, Mary Michelle of Yonkers, NY., Linda of Cleveland Heights, OH; grandson Charles and wife Sarah of Richmond, VA; sons-in-law of Albuquerque, Steve Gallea and his wife Linda, Alan Gallea; grandchildren, Eric, Roy and Elizabeth Gallea; and great-grandchildren, Connor and Ashley Hile, Caiden and Mia Gallea. CHUMLEY -- Shirley Shehan Chumley, a resident of New Mexico since 1979, left us in the early morning of June 16, 2009, having just celebrated her 75th birthday. She was born June 14, 1934, in Evanston, IL to Irma Witte and Robert Lincoln Shehan. They, and Shirley's son, Stephan Gregg Chumley, predeceased her. Moving to Santa Fe in 1945 and then to Los Alamos in 1947, Shirley graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1952. Graduated from UNM in 1956, Shirley was always a loyal alumnae of the University and especially of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was named the outstanding alumnae of Kappa in 1991 and a member of the Kappa Alum Hall of Fame in 1996. While her husband, Syl, was in Navy service during the Vietnam years, Shirley was active in Navy Wife groups and in raising their two boys. Years of faithful membership in Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church strengthened Shirley's strong faith and hope. Shirley, who reached out to her friends through her abiding interest in their lives, her skills as a gourmet cook and provider of many happy events, will be deeply missed and widely mourned. She loved her church and her family, living in New Mexico, playing bridge and being hostess to her many, many friends. Shirley fought a valiant and uncomplaining 30 year battle with cancer, always a beautiful lady, independent and inspiring. She is survived by her son, Bruce; and her husband of more than 52 years, Sylvester G. Chumley. "For every time there is a season; there is a time to die and a time to grieve." Shirley would comfort her friends with the belief that she goes to the place prepared for her in Heaven. CORDOVA -- Anthony (Gordy) R. Cordova, 27, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 19, 2009. Anthony is survived by his wife, Savannah; his son, Santiago Cordova; his daughters, Estrella and Angelica Cordova; his parents, Anthony and Sylvia Cordova; his sisters, Angela Cordova and Ruby Gutierrez; his niece, Janelle Barelas; his grandmothers, Rosella Santillanes and Rosie Cordova; his in-laws, Art and Hazel Sanchez; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends. Anthony was a member of the Catholic Church, and loved the outdoors. Anthony was loved by everyone and will be missed by all. DAVIS -- Billy Edd Davis, 89, a resident of Rio Rancho/Albuquerque since 1993, died Friday, June 19, 2009. He is survived by his spouse, Mary Kay Davis of Rio Rancho/Albuquerque; daughter, Kathy Munro and husband, Chris of New Mexico; Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; son, Elmer Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Davis was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Mr. Davis served in the Army during WWII and the Korean War. He also served as a post commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and is a life-long member. He worked during his civilian life for NASA at Edward's Air Force Base in southern California where he had the opportunity to play a part in the United States space program which included his working on the flight simulators for the X-15, the simulators for the outer space vehicles, and the Digital Fly-by-Wire. The Digital Fly-by-Wire is now used for commercial aircraft to fly by instruments only. Billy received several awards for his outstanding work on the X-15 flight program; an award which President Lyndon Johnson also received. During his work at NASA, Billy worked alongside many astronauts and watched as the first spacecraft landed on the moon, something he helped to accomplish. He will be remembered by both family and friends as a loving and caring husband, father, and friend...we will all miss him. Pallbearers will include Chris Munro, Mike Donoho II, and Jim Carrie. HORTON -- Eleanor G. Horton, 83, passed from this earthly life on Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Albuquerque Kaseman Presbyterian Hospice. Preceded in death by her parents Hattie and John Horton; and her brothers Lindley and Lowell Horton. Eleanor was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on August 31, 1925. The youngest of six children, she was four years old when the family moved from Arkansas to Albuquerque, New Mexico. There she graduated from Albuquerque High School and attended some college at the University of New Mexico. Eleanor and her mother moved to Long Beach, California in the late 1940's, where she worked in the histology department of the VA Hospital and Long Beach Memorial. After the passing of her mother, Eleanor moved to Roseburg, Oregon where she worked at Douglas Community Hospital. She also volunteered with Friendly Kitchen, Mercy Hospital and the VA Hospital. Eleanor returned to Albuquerque in 2001 to care for her sister Mildred. One of Eleanor's passions was researching family history. She made trips to old graveyards, to Salt Lake City, and spent many hours at the library. She liked to travel to see places where long ago relatives lived. Going for drives with friends, bird watching, a little casino playing and stopping for "a bite to eat" were also favorite pastimes. One never got hungry going somewhere with Eleanor. Eleanor is survived by her sister Mildred Stamps of Albuquerque; her brother Alvin W. Horton of Pasadena, California; her sister Mary Little of Roseburg, Oregon; her nephew Charles Horton of Mill Creek, Washington and his wife and their children Jeff and Greg Horton; and her niece Carolyn Stuart of Roseburg, Oregon. A Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico at 10 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2009. Giving the blessing will be her great-nephew, Pastor Jeff Horton of Shoreline, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice. KEASLER -- Doris M. (Dorie) Keasler passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009, she has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1961. Our beloved Dorie is now with our Lord, and will be dearly missed by all. Dorie was preceded in death by her husband, Gary A. Keasler; her parents, Joseph and Helen Griffin; and sister, Rita A. Griffin. She is survived by two sisters, Catherine Hardy of Binghamton, NY and Barbara Winnie of Palm Bay, FL; brothers, William Griffin of Montrose, PA, Robert Griffin of Friendsville, PA, Donald Griffin of Little Meadows, PA, Bernard R. Griffin of Binghamton, NY and J. Michael Griffin of Friendsville, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Dorie was employed by Kirtland Federal Credit Union for over 28 years, Clark Cleveland in Binghamton, NY for three years, and Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY before coming to Albuquerque. LAFON -- James "Jim" Lowell LaFon, 91, a longtime Albuquerque resident, died on Sunday, June 21, 2009. He was born at home in Lelia Lake, TX in 1918 and grew up in Clarendon and Canyon TX during the Depression. His father, James Robert LaFon, was a farmer and his mother, Selma Edna LaFon was a housewife and teacher. Lowell came from a large family of six sisters and was the only boy. He learned to love fishing and being outdoors with his father, and attended public schools in Clarendon where he was an excellent student. Lowell was active in sports including golf and tennis and wrote for his high school newspaper. He graduated with a degree in business from West Texas State University in Canyon, TX and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Navy to serve in World War II. Lowell was an officer in the Navy and served in the South Pacific until the war was over. Following the war in 1946, he married Julia (Judy) Ann Kasinec from Masontown, PA and worked briefly for the U.S. Department of Labor before moving to Albuquerque in 1948, when he started a long and successful career as a real estate broker. During the next 30 years, Lowell and Judy raised four sons. He closed his business (American Agency Realty) in the mid 1970's and retired finding more time for golf, fishing, hiking, travel, and gardening, activities that his four boys also came to love. After Judy's death in 1981, Lowell met Roseanne Palmer who became his dear companion until his death. Lowell was a great dad and devoted husband who always had a quiet demeanor and met old age with grace and wisdom. Lowell died peacefully and according to his wishes, will be privately buried in Santa Fe National Cemetery next to his wife, Judy LaFon. He is survived by his sons, Scott of T or C, NM, Alan of Canyon, TX, Mark and wife, Leigh and their daughter, Christina of Denver, CO and Neal and wife, Joan and their sons, Maxwell and Weston and daughter, Calley of Franktown, CO, and Roseanne Palmer of Fullerton, CA. Lowell was preceded in death by his six sisters, Edna Mae Beville, Lynn Pope, Bernice Watters, Ruth Shanklin, Roberta Currie, and Bobbie Condron. Lowell was a kind and gentle man and will be fondly remembered by those he left behind. ROMERO -- Arthur "Art" Romero, 89, passed away June 20, 2009. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Romero. He survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Palladini Romero; sons, Arthur Lee Romero and his wife, Esther, Victor Romero, David L. Romero, Michael Romero and Dean Romero; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army in the Phillipines during WWII. He retired from Kirtland Air Force Base. SCANNELL -- Charles Timothy Scannell, age 78, was born in Colorado Springs, CO on March 25, 1931. Moved to Albuquerque in 1946 and graduated from Albuquerque High in 1949. Tim went to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife, Rolla Jean Scannell; his children Kathy Goss and husband Dan, Lynn Binder and Geno, Beth Trujillo and husband Dave, Clif Scannell and wife Bridget, Tim Scannell and wife Tiffany, and step-son Rand Waddingham. He has 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Alice Matney and husband Mike; and number of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He is preceded in death by five sisters; and his parents Joseph Scannell, and Elizabeth Black, and step-father Archie Black. He took great pride in his work, owing and running Scannell Surveying, Inc. with his son Tim. After retiring in 2005, he enjoyed spending time with his family and spending time with Rolla in the Jemez, enjoying the outdoors. He was a gracious, loving, forgiving man, always putting others before himself. He will be greatly missed. Revelation 21:3-4. SCHAEFER -- Howard Robert Schaefer, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, June 21, 2009. Howard was born September 4, 1919 in Asbury Park, NJ. He joined the Merchant Marines at age 16 and sailed to Brazil. A veteran of World War II, he served for five years as a Yeoman 2nd Class in the US Coast Guard. He served aboard the USS Hunter Liggitt and saw battle in the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga Taboo and Guadalcanal. Following the war, he went to work for the Prudential Insurance Company in New York City. In 1948, he moved his family to Albuquerque where he also worked for the Prudential Life Insurance Company. In 1949, he enlisted with the 188th Fighter Squadron of the New Mexico Air National Guard. In 1950, he obtained employment with the Albuquerque Post Office. Other employments include the Public Service Company of New Mexico, ACF Industries and the City of Albuquerque's Purchasing Department in 1965 where he remained until his retirement in 1982. Howard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley C. Schaefer; and two children, Howard R. Schaefer and Lorraine S. Farrell, both of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Brett, Chris and Lindsay Schaefer of Albuquerque, and Mike Farrell of Leesburg, VA; daughter-in-law, Laura Schaefer; and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Makenna Schaefer of Albuquerque. Services will be held Thursday, June 25, 2009, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. SHIPE -- Brooks M. Shipe (Jack) August 30, 1930 - June 18, 2009 Brooks passed away peacefully in his home after a long illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Yolanda; his daughter Susan and son-in-law Lewis Cuellar, his brother Paul C. Shipe and sister-in-law Lois; his sister Joan Yates; his mother-in-law Corina C. Avila. He was preceded in death by his son Brooks Patrick Shipe; and brother Robert J. Shipe. He has a number of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was a longtime resident of Albuquerque. We want to say a very special thanks to Rosie his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Earl Skinner who were always by his side to help, love, and give comfort. We thank all his wonderful friends for their support especially Bill & Nanci Easley. We thank Ambercare, especially Mary Newell, Cheryl Henry, Toney. Brooks was cremated by Direct Funeral Services and requested no memorial services. Remember his quick wit and beautiful smile that lit up his eyes.

TYRACK -- Donald P. passed away on June 19, 2009 at the Veterans Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sister Shirley Jansson, his sister and brother-in-law Jeannine and Louis Van Eperen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Don was a Korean War Veteran and for many years operated the Taos Garage in Albuquerque.
