MUNYON -- Neil R. Munyon, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, June 28, 2009. Born March 12, 1925 in Lincoln, NE to George Munyon and E. Grace Smith the middle of three sons. Grew up in Agra, KS, graduating from Agra Rural High School in May of 1943. Served in the U.S. Army Air Force August 1942 through January 1946. Assigned to Air Transport Command serving in New Guinea, Townsville, Australia and Manila, Philippine Islands. After the war he went to work for the Department of Energy as a security guard in Los Alamos, NM. There he met and married Mary Jane Steffens of Minneapolis, MN on May 28, 1949. Mary Jane died February 1984. Survived by seven children, Joan Davis of San Diego, CA, Thomas Munyon and wife, Utahna of Marysville, WA, Elizabeth Sawyer and husband, Daniel of Sacramento, CA, Claire Robertson and husband, Terry of Oceanside, CA, Carolyn Garcia and husband, L. Bert of Albuquerque, Virginia Lupinek and husband, Danny of Henderson, NV and Mark Munyon and wife, Donna of Ventura, CA; brother, Dwaine Munyon and wife, Connie of Lincoln, NE; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Neil moved to Rio Rancho after retiring in 1985. There he met and married Marie Hubbs in 1991. They were together until Marie's passing in January of 2008. Just last September, Neil moved to Albuquerque to be closer to Carolyn and Bert. Neil became a member of the Roman Catholic Church in November of 1950 after having been raised Methodist. Through his generosity he helped support Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos, St. Thomas Aquinas in Rio Rancho and had begun to contribute to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Albuquerque. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 plus years. He was also very generous to all he met in his own very giving way. He will surely be missed by many. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, July 1, 2009, 6:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 2, 2009, 9:00 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal SE. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m., at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos, NM. HOTOVEC -- Carolyn E. Hotovec, age 67, went to be with her Lord on June 28, 2009 in Albuquerque, She was born on June 3, 1942 to Clarence and Grace June Hotovec in Havelock, IA. Carolyn had a 30+ year career with US West Communications, and retired in 1997. She pursued her education and graduated with top honors with a degree in early childhood development from CNM. Carolyn enjoyed several years working as an educational assistant at Susie Reyes-Marmon Elementary School and was in the process of retiring from APS. She loved children and fostered several. Carolyn will be greatly missed and her memory will always be in our hearts. Carolyn is survived by her son, Gary Hotovec and wife, Dianna, two grandchildren, Megan and Emily Hotovec; her mother, G. June Hotovec; three sisters, Kathryn Bengtson (Harlan), Doris Stubbs (Bill), and Delores Edgington, (Charles); five brothers, John Hotovec (Ann), Douglas Hotovec (Dina), Dennis Hotovec (Patty), Jeffery Hotovec (Kathy) and Thomas Hotovec (Michael); three special nephews, Richard Stubbs, Jr., Robert Stubbs, Jr., and Brian Stubbs; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Hotovec; and grandparents on both sides. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at French - Wyoming Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 3, 2009, 10:30 a.m., at Sangre De Christo Catholic Church, 8901 Candelaria Rd. NE, with Father Chong as the Celebrant. TAFOYA -- Pete Tafoya, Jr., age 76, a lifelong resident of Los Lunas, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at his home. Pete loved the outdoors, especially hunting wild game with his boys. He enjoyed farming his own garden. Pete proudly served as a 1st Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Evangelista Tafoya; brothers, Jesus and Jose Tafoya; sisters, Mercy Ellis and Erlinda Griego and his son, Richard Tafoya. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carmen; children, Theresa Romero and husband, George, Charles Tafoya and wife, Yvonne, Peter Tafoya, Julian Tafoya and wife, Joann, Gloria Tafoya and friend, Sanje and Josephine Archuleta and husband, Louie; brothers, Johnny and Martin Tafoya and sisters, Angie Jones and Adela Beck. Pete was also blessed with 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Pete's life will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 5:00 p.m., at God's Church on the Move, 19768-A, Belen, NM 87002. Interment will be private. CORDOVA -- Monica Jane Cordova was born September 5, 1955 and passed away on Friday, June 26, 2009. Monica was born in Albuquerque, NM and was the daughter of Maurice and Elizabeth Cordova. Monica is survived by her only child, Angelica Schaaf Rayl; husband Kevin Rayl; and four grandsons, Jacob Cranston, Kieran, Noah, and Samuel Rayl, of Rio Rancho. She is survived by parents; siblings Joe Cordova (Yvonne), Mike Cordova (Liz), Yolanda Fernandez (Charles), and Yvonne Rimbert (Mark). Her Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW, Albuquerque, NM 87121.

EVERETT -- Forrest Gene Everett, 83, a resident to Belen, N.M. passed from this world on Friday, June . Forrest volunteered to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. He spent his entire enlistment aboard the U.S.S. Lunga Point CVE 94. After his enlistment ended , he returned to Albuquerque, N.M. where he joined his father at Rupert Plumbing and Heating Co. He was proud to tell everyone that he was the luckiest man in the world. He was able to work at a job he loved and for the same man, for over 40 years. After his retirement, his greatest pleasure was to spend time with his family and pets Ruby and Lola. He never met an animal he did not love at first sight. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and riding his bicycle through the neighborhood. Forrest was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Y. Everett and his parents, Ermine Forrest Everett and Cleo Lily Everett . He was also preceded in death by his special companion, Fannie Mae Little. Forrest is survived by his daughter, Hollie Blakesley and husband, David; granddaughter, Samantha Everett and her fiance, Thomas H Taylor, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Christian, Nicole, and Daniel;, sister-in-law, Justine Lemke and husband, David ; niece, Charlotte Buckmaster and husband, Dave and cousins, Gary and Peggy Forbis, and numerous other members of the Forbis and Blakesley families. Forrest was a member of the Episcopal Church. The family would like to express their gratitude to the following people, Dr. Richard Madden and the staff of the Presbyterian Health Center of Belen, Dr. Charles Combs and his staff, and the angels that comprise the Presbyterian Hospice program, in particular Pam Mares. The love and compassion you have shown us over the last 10 years will never be forgotten. Words cannot express our gratitude. SAAVEDRA -- Margaret L. Saavedra, born in Mountainair, NM passed away at home in Albuquerque, NM on Thursday, June 25, 2009. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Amado and Adela Chavez; her sister, Molly Chavez; and son-in-law, Lloyd Grant. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 49 years, Flaviano Saavedra, Sr.; son, Charles Esquibel and wife, Isabel; daughter, Viola Garcia and husband, Alex; daughter, Sarah Grant; son, Flaviano Saavedra, Jr.; one sister, Nestor Chavez and husband, Tony; seven brothers, Richard Chavez, Joe Chavez, Gilbert Chavez and wife, Dottie, Ernest Chavez and wife, Sandy, Lawrence Chavez, and wife, Becky, Frank Chavez and wife, Sarah, Severo Chavez and wife, Gina; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends who loved her and will miss her. Margaret was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, the Blue Army, the Altar Rosary Society; the Holy Hour, Padre Pio, and Divine Mercy. As well, she was a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound, a member of the Queen of Peace, the choir, Vice-President of the Cesar Chavez Community Center, and was part of a group that prepared meals for the Little Brothers of the Good Shepard. Margaret also enjoyed traveling overseas and gathering with family and friends. Services will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Parish, 833 Arizona SE, Abq, NM, near San Pedro and Gibson. A Rosary will be recited Monday, June 29, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Richard Chavez, Joe Chavez, Gilbert Chavez, Ernest Chavez, Lawrence Chavez, Frank Chavez, Severo Chavez, Daniel Esquibel, and Mark Esquibel. COX -- Donald J. Cox, age 81 of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009 at a local care facility. He was born on January 17, 1928 in La Junta, CO, to Charles B. and Hazel B. Cox. He married Norma Lee McComas in July 1952 in West Virginia. She preceded him in death on March 14, 1997, after 45 years of marriage. Mr. Cox was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving with the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he worked and retired from Mountain Bell now known as AT&T Telephone, after many years of service. He is survived by his children, Tammye Sue Quinn and her husband, Shawn and Gerald Cox, all of Albuquerque; three granddaughters, Nikki Cox, Caitlin Cox and Ashley Quinn. RASKOB -- Benjamin Green December 14, 1922 - June 17, 2009 Ben was the youngest of the 13 children of John Jakob Raskob and Helena Green Raskob. He was born just north of Wilmington, Delaware, and much of his childhood was spent near Centreville on the eastern shore of Maryland. In the late 1930's, he came west on a trip with his mother and discovered the Los Alamos Ranch School which he attended until it was transformed into the Manhattan Project. Ben joined the Navy, serving 39 months overseas during WWII in various Pacific theater actions including the Guadalcanal and Philippines Campaigns, principally on a flag destroyer as a radioman and encoder. After the war, Ben entered the University of Arizona in Tucson and studied agriculture. There he met Rita Russell of Tulsa, Oklahoma. They married in 1947. They settled at "Rancho Verde" near Polvadera, New Mexico, and raised registered Herefords for nearly 20 years. Ben and Rita also built a home in Albuquerque so that Ben could pursue other business endeavors, including an investment in Shop Rite Foods (Piggly Wiggly) in the 1950's and 1960's. Ben was a devout Catholic, supported the Church worldwide, and worked closely with the Archbishops and other leaders on many initiatives within the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. He served on countless boards and volunteered his time for many church, civic and nonprofit groups. Some of those include the Boys Scouts, Casa Angelica, the Santa Fe Opera, and his beloved Raskob Foundation for Catholic Activities where he served as President for 19 years. Whether he was using his knowledge and influence to raise, invest, or distribute money; his amateur radio and EMT skills to aid stranded and injured hikers from the Sandia Mountains; or his time helping lost shoppers find their cars in Coronado Center, Ben always met people with humility, joy, kindness, and a sense of humor. In the early 1990's Ben's sister Patsy played cupid when she re-introduced Ben to a lifelong friend, Regina McCourt Maguire. In 1994 Ben and Regina were married and lived in Towson, Maryland. The years Ben spent with Regina were among the happiest of his life. They traveled together, worshiped together, and volunteered together at St. Joseph Medical Center. Regina nursed Ben thru the ups and downs of severe heart disease. Always his advocate, Regina stayed by Ben's side until the Lord called him home. Ben was preceded in death by his parents; ten of his 12 siblings; and, in 1978, the mother of his sons, Rita Russell Raskob. He is survived by his loving wife Regina McCourt Raskob; his sisters Patsy Bremer and Mary Louise Duffy; his five sons, Russell Raskob and his wife Elizabeth, William Raskob and his wife Kathleen, Richard Raskob and his wife Catherine MacLean, Charles Raskob, Jake Raskob and his wife Bonner; and his eight grandchildren, Chris and his wife Valerie Chowning, Mark and his fiancee Robin Russell, Leanne, Margaret, Claire, Max, Ben, and Ramona Raskob. He is also survived by Regina's children, Regina Dwyer, Marion Caslin, James Maguire, and Regina's ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Ben also is survived by many, many nieces and nephews.
