SPURRY -- DAVID CHARLES November 8, 1947 - July 27, 2012 Age 64, of Albuquerque, passed away at home surrounded by his family, after a two year battle with cancer. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, and grew up in Northfield, Illinois on Chicago's North Shore. He graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL in 1965, attended the University of Denver, and served in the Army. After determining that following in his father's footsteps at Sears was not his calling, Dave moved his family to Albuquerque in 1976 where he founded Sandia Construction and worked as a contractor for 30 years. Despite being the doormat of the National League, Dave remained a fiercely loyal Cubs fan to the end. He enjoyed decades of games with his friends and family and was boisterous in his rendition of the 7th inning stretch. Quick-witted and a genius with his hands, Dave could spew out the correct answer (in the form of a question, thank you) to nearly any "Jeopardy!" question while rerouting drainpipe fittings faster than most actual "Jeopardy!" contestants could say, "I'll take 'Plumbing' for $1,000, Alex." Dave built many fine things during his lifetime, often presenting his handiwork as gifts to his family and friends, and he never turned down the opportunity to help someone in need of some expert handyman assistance. He was also deadly accurate with a crescent wrench up to 60 yards, and possessed the most colorful vocabulary for tools that simply didn't work correctly. He was a member of the Albuquerque Boat Club and American Legion in Elephant Butte, NM enjoying the water, his owls and the occasional beer on the porch of his house at the lake. Dave is father to Laura Spurry Passman, Timothy Spurry, and Katherine Spurry (Andrew Parkhill); grandfather to Andrew Passman, Jackson Spurry, Zoe Parkhill, and Willow Spurry. He is survived by his sister Nancy Spurry (Ted Rehm); his life partner Glenda Miller and her family, Danette Townsend (Michael Henningsen) and Ryan Townsend. In lieu of flowers, for friends who so wish, contributions may be made to a charity of their choice in Dave's name. Services will be held Friday, August 3 at 4:00 pm at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 12121 NM-14 N, Cedar Crest, NM 87008, poplchurch.com with a reception immediately following at his home in Cedar Crest.

On his discharge from the military, Cliff and Alice settled in Albuquerque and raised their three children. In 1972 Alice and Cliff moved to Placitas, NM and built their dream home, doing most of the work themselves. She retired from New Mexico Steel in 1986 to assist Cliff in his business and helped raise their granddaughter and light of their lives, Maggie Heide. Alice was a curious and inventive life-long learner who enriched her life and those around her. She treasured her long-term friendships including those she found in the Jardineros de Placitas, her book club, stitchery group and hiking club. She volunteered for many organizations including the Sandoval County Historical Society and helped found the Placitas Library. A celebration of her life will be held August 25, 2012, at 3:00 PM at the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church at 7 Paseo de Santonio, Placitas. In lieu of flowers, it was Alice's request that any donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

GABALDON -- EMILIA passed away peacefully at her life-long home, surrounded by her family on July 26. She was 83 years old. She is preceded in death by her son Michael, and her husband of 53 years, Joe. Emily is survived by her children John and Joey Gabaldon, David Gabaldon, Mary Sedillo, Theresa and Brett Whitely, Rebecca Gabaldon, grandchildren Cole and Aaron Gabaldon, Scott and Diana Whitely, and two great-grandchildren, Otto and Luna; and by her brothers Abelicio Baca, Herman Baca, Isaias Baca, and her sisters Nila Chavez, Lucy Metzner, Celine Baca, Gertrude Sisneros, Eloria Rhoades, and Mary Tearnan. Emily was born at her family's farm in Bosque, New Mexico in 1928. She attended Belen High School and shortly after graduation moved to San Francisco to work as a switchboard operator. There Emily met Joe who was stationed in the Navy. Emily and Joe grew their family in Albuquerque where they built the family home; and moved with the Air Force to Chandler, Arizona; Great Falls, Montana; and Denver, Colorado before returning back home. Emily kept a life-long devotion to her community where she volunteered at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, San Jose Parish, and St. Vincent De Paul. Emily will be remembered for her enduring patience, love of adventure, devotion to her family and siblings, dignity given to all around her and for herself, a passion for colors, arrangements, and painting; and a continuous positive attitude toward all the obstacles life threw at her. Several days before leaving us, Mom asked to be taken outside following an unusually heavy rainstorm. It was dusk and with her family gathered, Emily woke clearly to gaze at her beloved New Mexico's sky full of thunderheads, and enjoyed the moist breeze of the monsoon aftermath--and we believe she gathered strength to wait a few more days to finish farewells to her large and loving family. Viewing will be at 5:00 PM and Rosary Service at 6:00 PM at Garcia Mortuary in the Chapel of Angels, on Sunday, July 29. Burial mass will be held at San Jose Church on Monday, July 30, at 10AM followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Services Provided by: Garcia Mortuary 717 Stover Ave SW. 87102 505-243-5222 www.danielsfuneral.com
