FREEMAN -- HOWARD JAMES JR. Our warrior, husband and father gave his final salute to family, friends and country on July 22, 2012. Howard quietly left us to take up his new assignment with the other shining stars in God's Heaven. Howard "Howie" came to us on October 16, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland; the son of Howard James Freeman and Edna Beacham Freeman. He grew up with two brothers and a sister. Howard's sons, Eric, and Steven, and his daughter, Lisa and his beloved, Carolyn kissed him goodbye and sent him on his way--until we meet again. Howard first raised the sword of freedom for his country at the age of 17 in 1956 when he entered the U.S. Army Special Forces. For over fifty years in federal government service, he never faltered in the allegiance to his country; working assignments in Laos, the Far East, the Middle East, Africa, South America, Afghanistan and Pakistan. His commitment to duty, country and his Carolyn were legendary. A great team for nearly 31 years, Howard and Carolyn faced the challenges of the world and life together. Our Howard was someone very special in devotion, service and intellect. His friends and family consider him one of the "greats" who served this nation. His integrity and loyalty were a beacon to everyone. He stood firm when others waivered, and remained ever steadfast. His family, friends and grandchildren will be guided by his example and will always hold him close in deed and memory. Howard, you can lay down the sword now...and rest. Services pending at Arlington National Cemetery. GABALDON -- EMILIA passed away peacefully at her life-long home, surrounded by her family on July 26. She was 83 years old. She is preceded in death by her son Michael, and her husband of 53 years, Joe. Emily is survived by her children John and Joey Gabaldon, David Gabaldon, Mary Sedillo, Theresa and Brett Whitely, Rebecca Gabaldon, grandchildren Cole and Aaron Gabaldon, Scott and Diana Whitely, and two great-grandchildren, Otto and Luna; and by her brothers Abelicio Baca, Herman Baca, Isaias Baca, and her sisters Nila Chavez, Lucy Metzner, Celine Baca, Gertrude Sisneros, Eloria Rhoades, and Mary Tearnan. Emily was born at her family's farm in Bosque, New Mexico in 1928. She attended Belen High School and shortly after graduation moved to San Francisco to work as a switchboard operator. There Emily met Joe who was stationed in the Navy. Emily and Joe grew their family in Albuquerque where they built the family home; and moved with the Air Force to Chandler, Arizona; Great Falls, Montana; and Denver, Colorado before returning back home. Emily kept a life-long devotion to her community where she volunteered at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, San Jose Parish, and St. Vincent De Paul. Emily will be remembered for her enduring patience, love of adventure, devotion to her family and siblings, dignity given to all around her and for herself, a passion for colors, arrangements, and painting; and a continuous positive attitude toward all the obstacles life threw at her. Several days before leaving us, Mom asked to be taken outside following an unusually heavy rainstorm. It was dusk and with her family gathered, Emily woke clearly to gaze at her beloved New Mexico's sky full of thunderheads, and enjoyed the moist breeze of the monsoon aftermath--and we believe she gathered strength to wait a few more days to finish farewells to her large and loving family. Viewing will be at 5:00 PM and Rosary Service at 6:00 PM at Garcia Mortuary in the Chapel of Angels, on Sunday, July 29. Burial mass will be held at San Jose Church on Monday, July 30, at 10AM followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
