JACKSON -- NINA RUTH March 18, 1918 Nina was surrounded by her family when she passed peacefully in Clovis, New Mexico on July 28, 2012. Her death followed a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. Born in Del Norte, Colorado, and a graduate of Sargent High School, Nina had a wonderful 94 years of life. After graduating from Bethel College of Nursing, she took her new R.N. degree and entered the U.S. Navy in 1942. She met her future husband, Tac Jackson, while stationed in Seattle, Washington. They married in 1945 and settled in Monte Vista, Colorado. Nina worked as a private duty nurse before finishing her career as a school nurse from 1959 to 1981. She made significant changes to the schools' health care for students. She implemented a program that ensured every child was immunized from common communicable diseases and initiated a "revolving fund" program with a local ophthalmologist that enabled needy children to have eye glasses. Upon retirement, Nina moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico with her husband where she was actively involved with the First United Methodist Church and volunteered for the Presbyterian Anna Kaseman Hospice Program. Her passion was making a difference for others, both for her family and for her community. She remained active and independent over the past six years as a resident of Clovis, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her infant son Michael Carl Jackson, her beloved husband Tacitus Carl Jackson, and her father and mother, George and Flossie Michael. Nina will be greatly missed by her loving family and dear friends. She is survived by her daughter Jo (husband Cameron Cunningham), her son Curtis (wife Shannon), her grandson Colin Cunningham (wife Paula Makarewicz), and her granddaughter Kelsey (husband David Fredericks). In memory of Nina, donations can be made to Presbyterian Anna Kaseman Hospice, 8100 Constitution Pl. Albuquerque, NM 87110. Cremation will take place and services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Steed-Todd Funeral Home & Crematory, 800 E. Manana Blvd. Clovis, New Mexico (575) 763-5541.
