BIGGS -- Colonel George Joseph Biggs, USAF (Ret.), passed away on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009. Colonel Biggs, who was known to everyone as "Joe", was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 8, 1918 to Augusta and George Biggs. He was 91 years old. Colonel Biggs was a 1937 graduate of Jamaica High School in Queens, New York. He was commissioned in the Army Reserves in 1941 and called to active duty in 1942. He completed pilot training at Williams AFB, Arizona; Mather Field, California; Columbia Army Airfield, South Carolina; and Hunter Field, Georgia, and went on to fly 82 missions in B-25 bombers in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. His missions were both low level, including strafing, and high level with targets consisting of supply depots, bridges, and railroad yards in Burma. Following the War, Joe served as a Budget and Fiscal Officer in Assignments with the USAF Watson Laboratories at Red Bank, New Jersey, and the Directorate of Intelligence at USAF Headquarters, The Pentagon, until 1953. His next 14 years were with the Strategic Air Command (SAC) at Lincoln AFB, Nebraska, and Moron and Torrejon Air Bases in Spain. Among his many duties were serving as a B-47 medium bomber Aircraft Commander, Squadron Commander, and Vice Wing Commander. He also piloted KC-135 jet tankers while stationed in Spain. Joe left SAC in 1967 to become Chief of Aircraft Maintenance for the Air Force Eastern Test Range at Patrick AFB, Florida. On July 29, 1968, he received his final assignment at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, where he served as Commander of the 4905th Maintenance and Supply Group. Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1972, he received the Legion of Merit, a high-ranking decoration, for exceptionally outstanding service to the United States. During his 30-year service career, Joe earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Air Medals, and three Air Force Commendation Medals among other military decorations. At retirement, he held the dual aeronautical ratings of Command Pilot and Navigator. While in the Air Force, Joe earned a BS degree in Military Science from the University of Maryland. In retirement, he earned an MBA from the University of New Mexico. Joe resided in Albuquerque since 1968. He was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, serving several terms as President of the Parish Council and the Holy Name Society. In recent years he lived in the Montebello retirement community and served as President of the Resident's Council until his death. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Irene Crawford; a son, Michael Crawford Biggs; his mother, Augusta; his father, George; and sisters Lillian, Viola and Eleanor. He is survived by his sons George Joseph Biggs and wife Prompon and step-daughter Supphanida of Albuquerque; James Michael Biggs and wife Diane of Albuquerque and their children Jennifer Keltos and husband Michael of Springboro, Ohio, Jill Spears and husband James of Ocoee, Florida, and Joseph Biggs of Chicago, Illinois; and daughter Patricia Anne Morrisette and husband Robert of Huntington Beach, California, and their children Andrea of New York City, Hayley of Los Angeles, California, and Corey of Huntington Beach. Joe had five great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Benjamin Keltos; and Hayden, Connor, and Adeline Spears. Joe was, put simply, a good and generous man, highly respected and admired by family and friends alike. He will be very much missed by all. DUNHAM -- Willis C Dunham Sr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico and formerly of Niles, Michigan, died on Saturday, November 7, 2009. He was born on December 28, 1926 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Charles Dunham and Flossie Margarite Dunham. Will graduated with a BA from Western Michigan University and a Masters Degree from Colorado State College. He honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War. Will taught Industrial Arts at Niles Senior High school in Niles, Michigan for 39 years. He started the building trades program for his and several other adjoining schools. He also built an airplane in his class with the students. Will loved flying and attended the annual fly in at Osh Kosh Wisconsin many times. He was a charter member and deacon at the Bethel Baptist church in Niles and served in many capacities for the Southwestern Michigan Baptist Association. Will also served on the Baptist State Convention Executive Board and the Mission Service Corps of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. He also planned and built several churches with the aide of volunteer help. Will also built a Migrant workers mission in Lawton, Michigan which is in Southwestern Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann; daughter, Marnice Ann Clark of Albuquerque, NM; son, Willis C. Dunham Jr. of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Molly A. Clark and Hannah R. Clark both of Albuquerque, NM and Kelsie L. Dunham and Kinsie J. Dunham of Carrollton, Texas; great granddaughter, Story Ann Rael of Albuquerque, NM; sisters in law, Betty Meyers of Jefferson City, MO and Dr. Barbara Thompson of Kansas City, MO. Services will be held at Del Norte Baptist Church, 5800 Montgomery Blvd. NE. on Friday, November 13, 2009. Friends will be received at 9:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Robert E. Myers, officiating pastor. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., with US Army Honors. BROWN -- Charles Frederick Brown (Charlie, Freddie, Chuck) 61, passed away November 5, 2009. Born in Pasadena, CA August 4, 1948 to Lucy Ruth and Theo R. Brown, he was raised in Albuquerque with his siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are brothers James and Ted Brown of Albuquerque and sister, Eleanor Brown Rucker of San Antonio, Texas. Charles attended Manzano Day School and Del Norte High School where he was captain of the Del Norte Knights basketball team, President of his class and on the honor roll for 3 years. He attended Wheaton College. He was much loved, was generous and had a great sense of humor. He always had a mischievous grin for everyone. Charles will be missed by many. The family wishes to thank the staff at Westwind House and his devoted caregiver, Gloria Graber. Visitation will be held at French Mortuary, University, 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., November 9, 2009. GONZALES -- Carmen Gonzales, born in Casa Colorada, New Mexico to Valentin and Antonia Sais, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Francisco (Kiko); children, Elizabeth Gonzales Pimentel and husband Robert, Maurice Gonzales, Malcom Gonzales and fiancee Elsa Glassman, Elaine Gonzales, and Emily Lucero and husband John; grandchildren, Lawrence Gonzales, Angela Lucero, Catherine Lucero, Marie Lucero; great-granddaughter Shiloh Gonzales, sisters; Dina Bisio and Sylvia Armijo; and numerous other family and friends.
