BENTZ -- Mary Jukich Bentz, 86, passed away on November 9, 2009 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mary Bentz was born March 5, 1923 in Calumet Minnesota to Father Stefan Jukich and Mother Mara Ljeskovac. Mary attended Greenway High School and Itasca Junior College in Northern Minnesota where she met her husband Fred Bentz. Mary finished her Bachelors degree in Dietetics at the University of Minnesota and had a life long career as a registered dietician. Mary and Fred were married November 10, 1951 in Grand Rapids Minnesota, and moved to Albuquerque New Mexico where Mary worked for the Veterans Administration hospital, Presbyterian hospital, and numerous nursing centers. After retirement, Mary traveled the world with Fred. Fred and Mary were active members of the Slavic Club in Albuquerque. Mary liked making (and shopping for) jewelry. Mary enjoyed caring for her pet turtles. Mary was preceded in death by husband Fred Bentz. Mary is survived by her brother Mike Jukich of Keewatin Minnesota; two sons, Karl (Felicia) Bentz and Mark (Karen) Bentz; grandchildren Matthew and Ryan Bentz (Karl), their mother Alma Bentz, Brian and Meghan Bentz (Mark), and a large extended family. BETIN -- Richard George Betin, 56, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. Richard was the youngest in a family of two sisters and a brother. His family emigrated from Europe after World War II to Texas, where Richard was the first of his family to be born a US citizen. He was born in Dallas in 1953 and spent his early years in Dallas And Austin, graduating from high school and attending Eastfield College and the University of Texas at Austin. Richard was a technician and foreman in the air conditioning business before changing careers to the microprocessor industry and moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was proud of the work he and his fellow team members performed and was fortunate to work on several innovative processes. He was a well-respected team member of Intel for more than 15 years at the time of his sudden death. Richard had many interests, especially travel and the outdoors. He never spoke unkindly of others. He was an attentive uncle and great uncle to his nieces and nephews in Texas. His passing has left a hole in the hearts of those who loved him and he will be deeply missed by his entire family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother John of Denver, CO, his sister Irene of Aurora, CO, sister, Barbara and husband Mark Macha of Highland Village, TX, along with aunts, and uncle, nieces and other family members. A Memorial Service will be held today, Saturday, November 14, 2009 in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. BIGGS -- Colonel George Joseph Biggs, USAF (Ret.), passed away on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009. Colonel Biggs, who was known to everyone as "Joe", was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 8, 1918 to Augusta and George Biggs. He was 91 years old. Colonel Biggs was a 1937 graduate of Jamaica High School in Queens, New York. He was commissioned in the Army Reserves in 1941 and called to active duty in 1942. He completed pilot training at Williams AFB, Arizona; Mather Field, California; Columbia Army Airfield, South Carolina; and Hunter Field, Georgia, and went on to fly 82 missions in B-25 bombers in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. His missions were both low level, including strafing, and high level with targets consisting of supply depots, bridges, and railroad yards in Burma. Following the War, Joe served as a Budget and Fiscal Officer in Assignments with the USAF Watson Laboratories at Red Bank, New Jersey, and the Directorate of Intelligence at USAF Headquarters, The Pentagon, until 1953. His next 14 years were with the Strategic Air Command (SAC) at Lincoln AFB, Nebraska, and Moron and Torrejon Air Bases in Spain. Among his many duties were serving as a B-47 medium bomber Aircraft Commander, Squadron Commander, and Vice Wing Commander. He also piloted KC-135 jet tankers while stationed in Spain. Joe left SAC in 1967 to become Chief of Aircraft Maintenance for the Air Force Eastern Test Range at Patrick AFB, Florida. On July 29, 1968, he received his final assignment at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, where he served as Commander of the 4905th Maintenance and Supply Group. Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1972, he received the Legion of Merit, a high-ranking decoration, for exceptionally outstanding service to the United States. During his 30-year service career, Joe earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Air Medals, and three Air Force Commendation Medals among other military decorations. At retirement, he held the dual aeronautical ratings of Command Pilot and Navigator. While in the Air Force, Joe earned a BS degree in Military Science from the University of Maryland. In retirement, he earned an MBA from the University of New Mexico. Joe resided in Albuquerque since 1968. He was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, serving several terms as President of the Parish Council and the Holy Name Society. In recent years he lived in the Montebello retirement community and served as President of the Resident's Council until his death. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Irene Crawford; a son, Michael Crawford Biggs; his mother, Augusta; his father, George; and sisters Lillian, Viola and Eleanor. He is survived by his sons George Joseph Biggs and wife Prompon and step-daughter Supphanida of Albuquerque; James Michael Biggs and wife Diane of Albuquerque and their children Jennifer Keltos and husband Michael of Springboro, Ohio, Jill Spears and husband James of Ocoee, Florida, and Joseph Biggs of Chicago, Illinois; and daughter Patricia Anne Morrisette and husband Robert of Huntington Beach, California, and their children Andrea of New York City, Hayley of Los Angeles, California, and Corey of Huntington Beach. Joe had five great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Benjamin Keltos; and Hayden, Connor, and Adeline Spears. Joe was, put simply, a good and generous man, highly respected and admired by family and friends alike. He will be very much missed by all. BROWN -- Kenneth George Brown, 67, born February 4, 1942, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester K. Brown and Louise U. Brown; grandparents Nellie Shibley Mahboub and Said Mahboub; niece Shirley Rosie Brown,; and father-in-law Sal Gurule, whom he looked to as a Father and Friend. He is survived by his wife and friend of 37 years, Shirley Brown; and sons Thomas Brown and Kenny Brown; his three dearly loved grandchildren Zoey, Madison and Diego; his sister Annelle, husband (Gary); and godson, Sean; sister Angelle Brown; and brother Ron and his wife Sue, and their children Caton and Chet. Shirley's family was very dear and close to Kenneth. He loved and respected his mother-in-law Emma; brothers-in-law Peter Gurule (Ronnie and Steven), Ken Gurule, Jerry Gurule and wife Lisa (Kyle, Carey and Allison), Billy Gurule (Samuel, Samantha, Matthew, Jonathan), Keith Gurule and wife Janell (Bryce); sister-in-law Diane Jackson and husband Rodney (Joey, Jennifer and Tyler), and many friends and colleagues who loved and respected him. He attended grade school and high school at Our Lady of Sorrows, Bernalillo and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of New Mexico School of Law. He served as an assistant district attorney, had a law practice in Bernalillo for nine years during which time he served as the Town Attorney, and in 1984 he was elected District Court Judge in the 13th Judicial District, a position he held for twenty years. He received numerous awards and recognitions for his service as District Judge and was responsible for the creation of Grade Court, a specialty program he started in 1999 that is credited with keeping young people in school and resulting in a very low rate of recidivism. Ken loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren, which was the major reason he retired from the bench. He will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched during his career. Visitation will be held at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming Blvd., NE Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Sunday, November 15, 2009, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. followed by the Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Mass will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lay of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo, with the Rev. Fr. William "Bill" Sanchez officiating. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven. CAMPBELL -- Helen Lorraine "Cissie" Campbell, 77, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly while vacationing in Arizona on October 21, 2009. Born March 1, 1932 in Junction City, Kansas to George and Helen Moses, Cissie grew up in Kansas. In 1953, she met and married Lt. Robert E. Campbell. During their 56 years of marriage, Cissie and Bob delighted in the joys of their growing, active, and loving family. Cissie is survived by her husband, LTC (US Army retired) Robert E. Campbell; her sister, Janice Durrett of Kansas; her adult children, David S. Campbell and wife Shelly, Joseph Mark Campbell, Cathy Sanchez, Carter Jay Campbell and wife Elena; grandchildren, Melissa Campbell, Brittany Saldivar and husband Jose, Sean Austin, Heather and Damon Campbell, Moses Campbell; great-grandson, Ivan Saldivar and numerous other relatives. Cissie volunteered nearly 6,000 hours at the Presbyterian Hospital Gift Shop, was a 27 year volunteer with the Presbyterian Hospital Auxiliary, and was active in the Puerto del Sol Ladies Golf Association. She enjoyed her family and friends to the utmost, was much loved, and will be sorely missed by all. A service celebrating Cissie's life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd., SE. DISANTI -- Johnny L. "Papa" DiSanti, 82, born in Pueblo, Colorado, slipped away Tuesday, November 10, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 58 1/2 years, Patty; sons, Rocky of Albuquerque, David and wife Debbie of Albuquerque, Danny and wife Trisha of Torrance, CA; daughters, Lesley Haney and husband Tim of Mission Viejo, CA, Vickie Robertson and husband Rich of Albuquerque, and Rose Anna of Albuquerque. Papa is also survived by his granddaughters, Gina Lance and husband Jeff of Mission Viejo, Ca, Michele Connors and husband Matt of Sandia Park, NM; grandsons, Josh Haney and wife Carla of Chula Vista, CA, Nick Robertson and wife Theresa of Albuquerque, Rocky Robertson of Albuquerque, Doug DiSanti of Torrance, CA, and Daniel DiSanti of Torrance, CA; great-grandsons, Daniel and Aiden Connors, Noah and Adam Lance and Devin Poole; and great-granddaughters, Maycie Robertson, Jayly Poole and Brooke Robertson. He was preceded in death by his parents Rocky and Vera Rose DiSanti; and his mother-in-law Goldie Mitchell. Mr. DiSanti was a line driver, retiring from Consolidated Freightways in 1989, after more than 30 years and 3 million safe driving miles. GARCIA -- Santiago G. Garcia, age 75, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009. He was born on May 14, 1935 and was a life long resident of Albuquerque. Mr. Garcia was an Honorable Veteran who served our country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Pilar Garcia; two sisters, Dora Maldonado, Ida Perea; and a son Lawrence Garcia. Mr. Garcia is survived by two brothers, Edward Garcia and Arturo Garcia; two sisters, Carlota Lilly Garcia and Carmen Bachicha; his children, Lisa, Rebecca, Antoinette, and Gilbert Anthony Garcia; daughter-in-law, Becky Garcia; numerous grandchildren; special nieces Rose Rodriguez and husband Agustin, Jocelyn Padilla and Tenisha Rodriguez; and other numerous relatives and friends. GLEASON -- Barbara Jean Gleason, devoted wife, loving mother and loyal friend entered eternal peace on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. Barbara is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Henry Gleason; son, William Lawrence Gleason and his wife, Melanie, of Aurora, CO, and children William Brendan Gleason and Jamie Nicole Gleason; son, Michael Leslie Gleason; and daughter, Linda Jean Fresques and her husband Frederick, of Las Cruces, NM, and their sons Lee Devon and Taylor Austin. Barbara was born on November 24, 1929 to Lawrence Glenn and Marian Bates in Powell, WY. She grew up in Azusa, CA where she attended Pomona City College. A mutual friend arranged a blind date for Barbara with Bill Gleason, a Marine stationed at Terminal Island, San Diego. After three months they wed on March 19, 1947 and shared 62 years of glorious marriage. The couple moved to Bill's home town of Albuquerque in 1949 and have lived here ever since. Barbara retired as a secretary from Albuquerque Public Schools. She filled the lives of her family and friends with love, grace and beauty. Visitation will be held Friday, November 13, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. HARTY -- Gene R. Harty, 74, a resident of Horseshoe Springs, NM, in the Jemez Mountains, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. He was born to Gwendolyn London and Cecil Eugene Harty on November 14, 1934 in Carlsbad, NM. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Mary, of 46 years; daughters, Liz Winn, Jeanine Rogers, and Gwenette Bradley and husband Larry; grandchildren, Steve Winn and wife Heather, Mike Winn, Shawna Chavira and husband Steven, Eric Rogers, and Tessa Bradley; great-grandchildren, Stevie Chavira, Justyn Winn, and Samantha Chavira, and brother-in-law, James Gleason. Gene proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. Gene lived by the motto "Freedom is not Free". He had a long career, mostly dedicated to the defense of our country. He spent 10 years with ACF Industries and in 1967 went to work for Sandia National Labs as a mechanical engineer until his retirement in 1990. After moving to Horseshoe Springs, he became involved with the La Cueva Volunteer Fire Department and served on the search and rescue team. Gene loved nature, the outdoors and physical fitness. He shared hunting, shooting and woodworking with his family and was a lifetime member of the NRA. Gene played a central role in the creation of the Horseshoe Springs community at La Cueva. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Gene's life will be held Sunday, November 22, 2009, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at American Legion, Post 75, 17691 State Hwy 4, Jemez Springs, NM. HERRERA -- Matthew David Herrera, also known as "Potatoe," age 21,was born May 19, 1988 in Albuquerque to parents, Edward Herrera and Michelle Sanchez. Matthew attended Eldorado High School and was currently attending CNM in hopes of becoming a physical therapist or better yet, a traveling nurse with his best friend, Alex. He had aspirations of continuing his education at a Christian-based college. Matt was currently employed as a Mental Health Technician at UNMH and enjoyed helping others in any capacity. He was a well-respected First Aid and CPR trainer with Expressions of Life and supported caregivers and worked with people with disabilities for several years. Matt loved with all his heart and was loved immensely in return, but he had a special place in his heart for his friends, Anthony and Bennie. Matt's first love was God, whom he came to know at two years old. The joy God gave him allowed him to love nature, camping and diving in the Jemez Mountains. Nurturing his niece and younger cousins was another of Matt's priorities and he was a hero to the children who loved him. He was the most forgiving person anyone could meet and he had a passion for his family, bible study, dogs and was also a strong advocate for human rights. Matt was inseparable from his other half, his one and only sister, Debrionna. A shared promise between them was the vow to be inseparable; even through physical separation the two were a constant. Matt will be terribly missed by all fortunate enough to have crossed his path. Our beloved Matt is survived by his father, Edward Herrera; mother, Michelle Sanchez; sister, Debrionna "Sister" Herrera; grandmothers, Virginia Herrera and Dolores Botts and husband, Gary; his one and only niece, Ashlynn and his girlfriend and best friend, Alex. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. When Matt completed his journey to heaven, he met with his grandfather, Justo Herrera and an uncle, David Lopez. A celebration of Matt's life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside Church of Christ, 3100 La Orilla Rd, NW, Albuquerque, with Minister Mark McKenzie officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. and inurnment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Urnbearers will be his parents and beloved sister. Honorary urnbearers will be Joe Montoya, Jeff Herrera, Noah Herrera, Sean Avrit, Michael "Bubbies" Alirez and Marco Lopez. KECK -- Frances A. Keck, 78, went to be with our Heavenly Father and her loving husband Russ on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 after a long battle with Alzheimers. Frances was born Francesca Scimonelli on April 25, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York. She married her first husband, Robert Quanz, and had six children. Frances became a widower in 1974. She then met the love of her life, Russell Keck, who also had a daughter, and they married on August 6, 1977. Their life together was very special and very active. They were members of the Rio Rancho Country Club where she played tennis every weekend. They loved to travel. Frances is survived by her seven children, Debbie LoGuercio and husband Steve, Robert Quanz, Richard Quanz and wife Barbara, Kathy Quanz-Martinez, Wendy Iorg and fiance, Michael, Stephanie McCullough and husband John, Patti Salaz and husband Marcos; sister, Margaret (Tootsie) Ayers; and brother Roy Scimonelli and wife Pat; fourteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many. The family would like to especially thank the caregivers of Haven Home Care, Ester, Maryann, and Joan for their tenderness and loving touch they provided during her four year stay. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, Friday, November 13, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Interment will be on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park where Fran and Russ's remains will be buried together. KORTKAMP -- Karl Robert Kortkamp, a long time resident of Albuquerque passed away suddenly at his home on November 10, 2009. He is survived by his wife Kathryn; and children Katie, Kerry and Kevin. Born on April 3, 1952 in Seattle, WA, he was the only son of Walter and Ruth Kortkamp. After receiving his Electrical Engineering Degree at the University of Washington, he obtained his master at Stanford. The Air Force brought him to Albuquerque. After his discharge, he chose to make Albuquerque his home and worked for BDM and a Neurosurgeon designing computer equipment. He worked for Silicon Graphic (SGI) for 20+ years as a systems engineer. He designed supercomputers and was the lead systems engineer and architect on the NMCAC Altix ICE Supercomputer. He was considered an authority for high performance computing and visualization. He was a loving father and devoted husband. His joy for his life extended to all he met and he often called himself an amateur gourmet cook. He built radio control planes and enjoyed golf. We will all miss him dearly. Memorial service will be Saturday, November 14, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust St., NE (I-25 and MLK.). OLSEN -- Alyce Marie (O'Callaghan) Olsen, 69, resident of Albuquerque, graduate of Lexington High School 1958, passed away Monday, November 9, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Charles H. Olsen; daughters, Vicky Matlock and husband, Lyn, and Mardy MacKay and husband, Scott; son, Charles H. SALAZAR -- Antonio Salazar, 77, passed away on November 11, 2009. Having retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, he served in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded two Purple Hearts while serving in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion Post 69. He is survived by three sons; one daughter; and two sisters. SCOBY -- Betty Jo Scoby, born February 17, 1934 in Tucumcari, NM left this life November 10, 2009. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Opal Lowe; her first husband Gene Street; and son-in-law Bob Gorsline. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joe Scoby; her only sister, Shirley Swindle and her husband Don; five children, daughters Carman Lasiter and her husband Calvan, Judy Street and her partner Pietro, Annette Martin and her husband Darell, sons Bob Scoby and his wife Vicky, Greg Scoby and his wife Dana; fourteen grandchildren; Tonya Littrell, Sheri Jones and her husband Darwyn, Samantha McCoy and her husband Woody, Megan, Taylor and Grant Scoby, Kaisi Ingersoll-Jaramillo and her husband Israel, Kory Ingersoll and his wife Trish, Laura, Claire and Kyle Scoby, Paul Gorsline and his wife Feydra, Karyn Murman and her husband Chris, and Andrea Gorsline. Eleven great grandchildren, Dmiri and Savannah Jones, Ariel and Rhylyn Jones, Faith and Israel Jaramillo, Fisher, London, and Avyn Gorsline, Khloe Ingersoll and Ella Murman. And her son-in-law Mike Ingersoll and countless friends. Betty was a retired R.N. working at Presbyterian Hospital and State Hospital Turquoise Lodge. She was a faithful member of Netherwood Park Church of Christ. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother and an awesome "Grannie" who will be deeply missed and never forgotten. WEAVER -- June Northrop Weaver passed away after a lengthy illness in Green Valley, AZ on October 31, 2009. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Stuart Northrop. A graduate of UNM and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, June taught Earth Science at Creighton Jr. High in Lakewood, CO for 20 years. She is survived by her husband Earl "Buzz" Weaver; three children, Michael (Paula), Sandy Tyler (Steve), and Brad. grand children; Kelli Oldham, Kerri Holman, Matthew Tyler, Hilary Tyler, Sean Weaver, and Hannah Weaver. She was beloved by all who knew her and will be missed by all those she helped with her volunteering.
