DAVIS -- Ann. My mother lost her war with breast cancer, but not without one hell of a fight. She was diagnosed with stage 4 in 2004; there is no stage 5. It had already spread throughout her body. Dr. Lee gave her six months to live-I was devastated, she wasn't. Doctors are not God, she said. Ann fought valiantly for 5 1/2 years. She never gave up or lost hope. She believed in me, even when I didn't. It was 3rd down & forever in the 4th Qtr.-2 min. warning-She called the play; it was a screen to the running back, but the cancer was ready! No gain, 4th and long-So she called Hail Mary, two wide receiver sets, all go. The ball was snapped, she avoided cancer's pass rush, threw deep, complete! 1st down... Time expired on October 14th, 2009, no time for another play-she was my hero. Ann was laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park on November 7th, 2009. She is survived by her son, Brandon; daughter-in-law Michelle; granddaughters Arlene, Sariyah and Autumn. Please make donations of any size in her honor to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Annie-I love and miss you dearly. Her will and strength fought the enemy for five and a half years. If someone said she couldn't do something she'd prove them wrong and do it. I want the will and strength she had. I wish more people were like her. I know she is in a better place now, without anymore suffering. Love forever and always Arianne (Sweetie) Annie-I love and miss you. I appreciate what she did for me. Thank you for caring for me. Love forever and always Sariyah & Autumn Arrangements in care of RIVERSIDE FUNERAL HOME OF ALBUQUERQUE 225 San Mateo NE 764-9663

JENKINS -- Ryan Michael Jenkins. The world lost a bit of its humor today; its colors dimmed and moved forever to a lighter shade of gray. Ryan Jenkins, beloved son, brother, friend and poet left us; and for a moment the music stopped. But the music never stopped for Ryan, it was a part of him as was his huge smile and endless sense of humor. Kindness came as naturally to Ryan as water flows down a mountain stream; the first to offer a hand to Mom or Brent, or a broke and busted friend, or a random stray down to their last he happened upon. Ryan's heart knew no limits and never contemplated judgment or prejudices. An advocate, friend, volunteer and member of the Special Olympics, Ryan's big heart knew no boundaries or limits; and God could he smile with the best of them. So many, many of us will miss Ryan and all of the wild color, endless kindness and positive glow he could provide in even the most tragic situation. That was Ryan, a rock standing strong and grinning through a hurricane. Now we grab that smile, that huge teddy bear spirit and hold it close to our chests. Ryan will never leave us. His smile, humor and beat, a reminder of the happiness and joy life holds even through tragedy. Until we all meet again, Ryan, we love you. Ryan was born in Albuquerque on June 5, 1977, and is survived, loved and remembered by parents Donna, and the late Robert Duke, and Doug and Linda Jenkins; brothers Brent, Kyle and his son Pele Jenkins, Marc, Jason and Greg Shafer; and Peter and Robert Duke; his grandfather, Harry Jenkins; aunt Vicky Yakus and family, aunt Susie Howard and family; cousins Angelo, Natalie, Ava, Annie, Rob and Allison, special friends Jeremy Manzer, Jason Vosburg and Scott Dante in addition to so many, many more of us that Ryan touched in his time on this earth. MILLER -- Ransom Augustus Miller, 95, passed away on November 5, 2009, after a long illness. He was born January 16, 1914, in Cement City, MI, to Samuel Miller and Minnie Douglas Miller. Ransom was survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Hester Miller. He grew up as the son of a country store keeper. Ransom taught in a one-room country school house in Pulaski, MI., to earn money for his tuition to the University of Michigan, from which he graduated. Following graduation he worked in Detroit, MI, at Jam Handy, a maker of commercial films, and for McManus, John and Adams, an advertising agency which later transferred him to their New York City office where he lived for a wonderful four years. To satisfy a long time dream, he left New York in order to attend the restaurant school at Michigan State University. After completing that training, he joined the Fred Harvey Company for whom he acted as relief manager for various restaurants around the country, until finally being transferred to The Airport Terminal Restaurant in Albuquerque. Later, the "dream" having been fulfilled, he returned to advertising at the Ward Hicks Agency, and as a partner at Stoller, Miller, and Swanwick. He retired in 1971 from his own agency, Miller Advertising. Ransom was for all his life a lover of the musical and theatrical arts - opera, symphony, dance, drama. He was an especially devoted follower of The Santa Fe Opera from the time of his arrival in New Mexico, in 1958. NEWSOM -- Christine M. Newsom, 46, of Greenville, NC, died Thursday, October 22, 2009. Christine was born December 14, 1962 in Washington, DC to Keith and Brigitte Newsom of Fort Washington Forest, MD. She was the youngest of three children. When she was eight years old she moved with her parents to Albuquerque, NM. she graduated from El Dorado high school in 1980 and completed work on a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of New Mexico in 1984. She enjoyed sports and was a member of her high school volleyball team. She enjoyed hiking and camping in the mountains, and she loved music. Christine's early accomplishments were all the more remarkable because while she was still in middle school and high school her mother became more and more incapacitated from the ravages of Huntington's disease. Her mother died in 1984 at age 50. Unfortunately Christine inherited the gene for Huntington's disease for which there is no cure and which invariably results in an early death. During her long illness Christine demonstrated great courage and good humor, but the illness is debilitating, cruel and relentless. Christine was preceded in death by her mother; and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her father Keith R. Newsom of Greenville, NC; her sister Sylvia (William) Hunneke of Greenville, NC; her brother Rob (Sidney) Newsom of Richland, WA; and her aunt Hazel Hanson of Marysville, KS. She also leaves a niece and nephew, Sadie and Zachary Newsom of Richland, WA, and several cousins from various locations. Christine has been cremated and no services will be held at this time. A small informal memorial service is planned tentatively for next spring at Woodland cemetery near North Bend, Nebraska. At that time, on a plot next to her uncle Jack Newsom, a grave stone honoring Christine and her immediate family members will be dedicated. Memorials may be directed to your charity of choice or to the Huntington Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018. As Christine walks through the valley of the shadow of death she fears no evil for she is on a direct pathway to heaven!

WEST -- J. C. West, 94, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2009. He is survived by his wife Beatrice West; children, Sandra Braswell Jenkins, Nancy Lister and husband Jimmy, John West and wife Cathie (CJ), Joseph Murrietta and wife Alberta, daughter-in-law, Pat Blea Murrietta, and many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Mr. West was preceded in death by his son Jerry West, step-son Dennis Murrietta, his three sisters (Anne, Lura and Alta) and two brothers (Otis and Tommie). Born in 1915 in Necessity, TX, he graduated from Pain Rock High School in 1932. Other education includes graduation from Hemphill Diesel Engineering School in Los Angeles, CA in 1938. The Great Depression found Mr. West working at a bakery, a soda fountain, an industrial laundry and measuring agricultural fields for the government in addition to helping to run the family ranch with his older brother. Wanting to find a way off the ranch in 1936 he bought a bowling alley in Sweetwater, TX which was, he thought, the answer to his dreams. The place was packed with customers all winter long, but then, as spring and summer approached, the townspeople went back to farming and ranching leaving the lanes empty along with the cash drawer. So, it was back to the ranch for survival. In 1938, he traveled to Los Angeles, CA to attend diesel engineering school with hopes of being hired by one of the companies doing exploration off the coast of South America, but the jobs were scarce and he was again needed to help his brother work the ranch. In February of 1941, Mr. West joined the US Army serving stateside until the attack on Pearl Harbor. He then served for the duration of the war with the 1st Armored Division in North Africa (Tunisia, Algeria, French Morocco) and Italy (Anzio, Naples and Foggia). After the war, he returned to ranching in Paint Rock until he and his brother decided to sell the livestock and move on for good. He would say, "I knew God was sending me a message after weeks of hauling water from the Concho River to thirsty cows and sheep after too many days of drought, only to sell the livestock just one day before it rained like crazy for several days." With cash in hand, Mr. West then ventured into the movie business, or as he would frequently say with a half smile, "the wrong end of the movie business". In 1948, his Terrace Drive-in was the first to open in west Texas. The citizens of Big Spring were treated to movies shown on the white wall of a building next to the dirt lot where folks parked their cars and listened to the soundtrack emanating from two giant speakers that hung from trees. Having some success and looking to expand, his next venture would take him to Grants, NM in 1950 where he bought, owned and operated the Lux and West theaters, the Trails and Sahara Drive-in theaters for many years. In 1975, he and a partner opened a recording studio in Albuquerque where artists from around the state, including his son John and fellow band members, would come to record their music. He enjoyed very much being all around "go to" guy, promoter, manager, sound engineer and "roadie" for the bands in which John played for lots of years. Along his life path, Mr. West was involved in several business partnerships that netted him lifelong friends, regardless of the success or failure of the ventures. He counted himself fortunate and was most thankful for those friendships. We, as a family, feel blessed that Dad lived such a good and lengthy life leaving us with so many warm memories. We will miss him greatly. Private entombment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the The Alzheimer's Association, Albuquerque Chapter 9500 Montgomery NE, Suite, 121 Albuquerque, NM 87111.
