GONZALES, KATIE O. Age 75, a resident of Albuquerque, passed into paradise surrounded by family, friends and loved ones to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, January 14, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Raymond Gonzales of Albuquerque, NM; Son Jeffery R. Gonzales and wife Melissa of Broomfield, CO; granddaughter Catherine Gonzales of Honolulu, HI; Daughter Sandra Rasnake and husband Tony of Colorado Springs CO; siblings Cruz Ornelas and partner Virginia Cooper, Andrea Huebner, Richard Ornelas and wife Veronica, Isidro Ornelas and wife Mary Ann, and many other family and friends. Mrs. Gonzales was preceded in death by her parents Octaviano and Lupe Ornelas. Katie grew up on her parent's farm in Luis Lopez, New Mexico. She met her husband at a Sadie Hawkins dance. They became sweethearts and married. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Because her husband relocated about the country as an engineer, she took care of her family through many moves. She lived in Colorado, Montana, Washington, South Dakota, California and back to New Mexico. She also greatly supported her Navy son with visits to Annapolis MD, Texas, Meridian MS, Oak Harbor, WA, New Orleans, LA, Tokyo Japan and Honolulu HI. She also traveled to Alaska, various places in Mexico, Florida, Las Vegas NV, and the Bahamas. Katie was a faithful member of the Shrine of St. Bernadette serving in the Alter Rosary Society, as a Eucharistic Minister with her husband, and a Catechist. Mrs. Gonzales had served on the boards of the YMCA and the Dominican Retreat House. She completed the four year Religious Education Program in Theology at the Benet Hill Monastery in Colorado Springs, CO. She was an avid supporter of the military and of disabled veterans. She worked as a floral designer and in promotions and advertising. She appeared in a commercial with her husband for Presbyterian Senior Health Care. She was a devoted dog lover who loved and took care many over the years. Her favorite dog, a white poodle named Sir Jaws, will be waiting for her by Rainbow Bridge. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, January 18, 2013, 6:00 pm at FRENCH - Lomas, with Deacon Al McLane reciting with visitation beginning at 5:00 pm. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 9:00 am at the Shrine of St Bernadette, 11401 Indian School RD NE with celebrant Reverend Leo Padget and Deacon Al McLane. Entombment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery after Mass. Pallbearers will be Christopher Albert Ornelas, Christopher Ornelas Junior, Michael Young, Anthony Ornelas, Richard Ornelas Junior, Julius Tachias, and Carlos Ornelas. Friends and family are invited to the reception for Katie at the Shrine of St Bernadette Parish Hall after entombment. CORDOVA -- PHILLIP AL age 57, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 8, 2012, at home with his family at his side. Phillip is survived by his mother, Mrs. Sofie Martinez; son, Philip Lucero and fiancee, Jessica; fiancee, Rebecca Crespin; sisters, Lillian Diane Lopez and husband, Jose, Elaine Gurule and husband, Bob, and Maxine Vallejos and husband, Mike; brothers, Donnie Tafoya and fiancee, Viola Vallejos, and Martin Cordova and wife, Sheetal; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Cordova; and his aunt Julia Trujillo. Phillip was a renowned Artist. MONTOYA -- EUGENIA (NANA) Age 95, a resident of Albuquerque, was called home to our Father on December 6, 2011, after a full life of love, happiness, family, friends, smiling, laughing, dancing, sewing, cookies, and pies. Mrs. Montoya was surrounded by the love and care of her family at her home in Albuquerque, NM. Eugenia was born in Roy, NM on January 30, 1916, to Agapito and Lucia Vigil. Eugenia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Jose Domingo Montoya; son Edward; three brothers; two sisters; and an infant son. Mrs. Montoya is survived by four daughters, Prudy Holguin and husband, Zef, Eleanor Martinez and husband, Frank, Odilia Romero, and Priscilla Darby; her son, Vidal (Al) Montoya and wife, Chrs; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Angie Elliot, Elena Hurling, and Dolores Duran; brother, Vincent Vigil and wife, Lucille; and her brother-in-law, Tobias Ortega. Visitation will be Thursday, December 8, 2011, in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, from 5:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. by Kathy Garcia. SPENCE -- Marie Spence, 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on February 23, 2011. She was born on May 6, 1921 in Memphis, Texas to Mary Amanda Russell Finley and Matison Earl Finley. She graduated from high school in Muleshoe, TX, in 1937. (In July, 2010, she returned to Muleshoe for a class reunion and was the oldest graduate in attendance). She traveled alone by train to Seattle, WA. to begin 54 years of marriage to Robert Cecil (Bob) Spence on June 10, 1942. Within the year, Bob shipped overseas to serve in the European Theatre in WWII. In 1948, they moved to Albuquerque when Bob joined Sandia National Laboratories. His job took them to Las Vegas, NV. in the early 70's for four years, after which they returned to Albuquerque. Marie was an avid bridge player, cook and seamstress. A great pleasure for her was her large extended family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchild, and many wonderful friends through the years. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her two brothers, Russell Finley and Clifton Finley and his wife, Owetha. She is survived by her daughters: Karon Boutz and husband John, Kelly Vottero and Andy Gonzales, all of Albuquerque, and Karla Spence and partner Linda Davis, of Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren: Paul Boutz and wife Abby of Boston, MA, Shelley Boutz Kapikian and husband Gregg of Annapolis, MD, Danny Boutz of Austin, TX, Amanda Boutz and fiance Ben Specter of Belen, NM, Nick Vottero and girlfriend Jackie Oliver, and Louis (Al) Vottero and girlfriend Laura Baldwin all of Albuquerque; her one great grandchild, Alexander Kapikian; her sister-in-law, Wilma Finley of El Paso, TX; her cousin, Sammie Johnson of Quitaque, TX; five nieces, two nephews, and devoted friends, Jan Gallo, Fran Griffeth and the Boutz extended family. The family wishes to give thanks to all of the special people with Hospice de la Luz and to the dedicated caregivers at Life Spire on Rio Grande and at Tender Heart Assisted Living-especially Amy Hourigan. Marie's cremated remains will be interred with her husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery and a private memorial will be held at a later date.
