ACQUISTO, ZULEMA "SUE" (MARTINEZ) of Albuquerque NM, passed away on Jan. 4, 2013 at age 91. She was born on Aug. 8, 1921, in Chimayo, N.M. to Teodoro and Froilan Martinez, one of six children. She reminisced often about attending Allison James (Santa Fe) & Menaul School (Albuquerque). She is survived by her daughter, Jeannette Acquisto of Albuquerque; son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Dee Acquisto of Phoenix; and sister and brother-in-law Lusinda and Luther Martinez of Albuquerque. She is also survived by grandchildren, Robyn Vines Smith and husband Mark Smith of Albuquerque, Ryan Vines and wife Charity of Thorndike, Maine, and Michael Acquisto and wife Virma of Phoenix; great-grandchildren, Brock Smith, Brenna, Hunter and Julia Vines; and Michael, Talia and Jordan Acquisto. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Acquisto; her parents; and her other siblings. BLAKELY, WAYNE MARCUS passed away peacefully on January 1, 2013 at the age of 55 years. Born on September 27, 1957, Wayne was a life long resident of New Mexico and had resided in the East Mountains for most of his adult life. Wayne was a 1975 graduate of Valley High School in Albuquerque. He was a highly accomplished carpenter and craftsman and took great pride in creating beautiful works. He left behind many examples of his craftsmanship that his family and friends will enjoy for years to come. Wayne had a love of history and fishing. He was preceded in death by his sister Sharon and his father Garry. Wayne is survived by his mother Marilyn Lake; his brother Stuart and wife Ruth; his aunt Louise Hardy; many cousins, nieces, nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and his beloved cat Concha who was his constant companion. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 11th at 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church at 215 Locust Street NE, Albuquerque, NM.

CASAUS, GERTRUDE R. "TULIE" Age 81, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went with the Lord, Sunday, January 6, 2013, while surrounded by her loving family. CLEMENTS, WILLIAM GEAROLD "BILL" Was born October 27, 1924 to William George and Mable Ethyl Hysom Clements in Fowler, Kansas. He was the sixth of seven children. His sisters, Pauline Wright, Della Barry, Leola Tillinghast, Pearl Youngs and his brothers Lloyd and James are all deceased. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann and his children Kathy Rosier of Cokeville, Wyoming, Deborah Case of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Mike Clements and his wife Michelle of Nederland, Colorado; stepchildren Jackie Kerby Moore and her husband Fred of Albuquerque, and Stephen Kerby, of Wagoner, Oklahoma. Grandchildren are Dee Dee Kerby, Mary Case, Willy, Charly, Kody and Kacy Clements. In addition, Bill is survived by his special family members, Jim and Kay Magovern, and Billy, Laurie, Jude, Lila and Hope Thiebaut. He also had a best friend, John Tonne. Bill retired from Mountain Bell Telephone Company in 1982 and relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico to join his new wife Jo Ann. They spent 30 years together and enjoyed a well-earned retirement. Bill and Jo Ann loved their children and grandchildren and would readily produce pictures and tell stories to anyone who would listen! Bill spoke with pride when relating his experiences during World War II. Bill joined the US Marines at age 17 and was discharged one day after his 21st birthday. He served in excess of 30 months in the Pacific, was honorably discharged in October 1945, and received a citation for his efforts. Bill's life touched many people. His Mountain Bell assignments included Line School Instructor, Supervising Foreman, Corporate Safety Supervisor and Corporate Construction Manager. His knowledge of outside plant and his ability to relate to the craft employees enabled him to be instrumental in originating several training courses involving safety, pole climbing and operation of heavy equipment. For many years he traveled the seven states of Mountain Bell reviewing the safety and construction operations. He loved his work. By Bill's own standards, he was successful. He left the place in better condition than it was when he arrived. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at FRENCH - Lomas, Wednesday, January 9, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.. COON, MARVIN Marvin was a resident of Albuquerque for over 50 years. He went to be with our Lord on Saturday, January 5, 2013. Marvin was born on October 20, 1930 in Villisca, IA to Fred Coon and Marnice (Findley) Coon. Marvin graduated from high school in Macksburg, IA and went on to graduate from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force in the 1950's during the Korean Conflict. Marvin married Marjorie Fisher in 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church in Omaha, NE. In 1957, they moved to Albuquerque when Marv joined Sandia National Laboratories. He worked at Sandia Laboratories for 35 years from January 1957 to March 1992, most recently as a Division Supervisor in Benefits. Marvin was a longtime member of Oasis Family Church and devoted Christian husband and father. He enjoyed photography and traveling with his family. Marvin led by example, he was a faithful friend and respected member of his community. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy of Fort Worth, TX and Peggy Irwin and husband Scott of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Tyler Oltmanns of Fort Worth, TX, Amelia Irwin and Jeffrey Irwin, both of Bossier City, LA; great-granddaughter, Madison Oltmanns of Fort Worth, TX; sister-in-law, Helga Fisher of Show Low, AZ; niece, Rochelle Fisher; nephews, Greg Fisher, Alan Fisher, and Bart Fisher; grand-niece, Lyldia Fisher; grand-nephews, Nathan Burch and Daniel Fisher; and other relatives and friends. GURULE, JOSEPH F. Age 67, beloved and devoted father, grandfather, son and brother, was embraced by the Lord and taken to his heavenly home, December 28, 2012. He was born in Cuba, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque. Joseph was a proud Marine Veteran. He retired from the Cuba Police Department. Joseph was a kind and loving person, who revolved his life around his mother and his children, and of course the apple of his eye, his grandson. He enjoyed working on his ranch, spending time with his family; and his favorite restaurant was the Western View in Albuq. He was preceded in death by his son, Luciano Valdez. HESTER, KATHRYN MARIE On Saturday, January 5, 2013 the angels came and took Kathryn Marie Hester home at age 81. Kathryn was born in Smiley, Texas on June 4, 1931. She is survived by her three daughters, Jeri Walker and husband Will, Sherry Scott and husband Rob, and Teri Gutierrez; eight grandchildren; and 11 greatgrands. Kathryn lived her life to the fullest with a wonderful sense of humor and a sharp wit. She was known for her fiesty firecraker attitude. She had a warm loving heart, a wonderful smile, and great big blue eyes. She was loved by many and will be missed. He was a member of the Happy Valley Baptist Church. Al was a US Navy Veteran. He worked in the insurance industry for American National as a broker/salesman. He owned a barbershop for awhile. He and Roberta were married on May 5, 1990. Al liked to work with tools and weld in his spare time. He loved to fish and play dominos and cards. Al was a strong and faithful Christian who loved to share the word of the Lord. He served as an ordained minister and would help in churches. After he retired he stood out front of the locals businesses and would hand out bibles handing out over a thousand English and Spanish bibles. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Johnson of Carlsbad, NM; son, Bill A. LESLIE, SHIRLEY CHAPMAN Loving mother, devoted grandmother, caring sister and cherished friend left us to be with her Heavenly Father on January 2, 2013. She passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She is predeceased by her husband Gene Edward (Ed) Leslie, son Todd Edward Leslie, and her mother and father George and Helen Chapman. Shirley was born in Savannah Georgia and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended Texas Tech in Commercial Art. Shirley's first job was in the 1940s as a stewardess for Braniff Airlines out of Dallas, Texas. She met her husband Ed, an Air Force pilot, while working at Braniff Airlines. Shirley and Ed settled in Albuquerque in 1954. They founded Home Planning Development Company, a successful building and development business throughout New Mexico, New Mexico Capital Corporation, and led New Mexico Savings and Loan Association. She was a tremendous supporter of the Republican Party, serving two terms as the National Committeewoman from New Mexico, numerous terms as a delegate to the National Republican Convention, and member of the National Republican Party's Regents. Shirley also devoted herself to supporting the Albuquerque community through her many philanthropic endeavors including: serving as a charter member of the Albuquerque Community Foundation, board member of the UNM Cancer Treatment and Research Center, first woman to chair the Lovelace Medical Center's Board of Advisors, board member of the Lovelace Respiratory Institute, service as the first woman vice president of the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, member of the first graduating class of Leadership Albuquerque, board member of the Santa Fe Opera, and serving as one of the first women New Mexico Amigos, membership in the Thursday Literary Club, and Los Amapolas Garden Club. She selfishly devoted her time and energy to giving back to her community and to making Albuquerque and New Mexico a great place to live and raise her children. Shirley is quoted as saying, "If I've passed anything onto my family, I hope it is a sense of responsibility, determination, and integrity." Her family and friends can attest that she did just that. Shirley lost her beloved husband Ed in 1975, leaving her to operate the businesses and raise six children on her own. She did a remarkable job. Our mother was an amazing woman who instilled a sense of integrity in each of us and an understanding of the Lord's presence and blessings in our lives. She valued and practiced close, loving relationships with her friends and family and modeled the importance and strength that flows from loving service to one another and our community. MARTINEZ, ROBERTO On January 3, 2013, the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, Roberto Martinez was called home by Our Lord. Roberto was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, friend and mentor. Roberto was born on May 22, 1929 in the small New Mexico mountain village of Chacon in the Mora Valley. He attended school in Mora and was educated by the Sisters of Loretto. After graduating high school, Roberto joined the United States Air Force, serving a four year duty. Afterwards, he worked at the New Mexico State Hospital in Las Vegas, N.M. where he met his future wife, Ramona Salazar, also an employee at the facility. They soon married and the young couple moved to Denver, Colorado in 1952, where Roberto worked as a civil servant for the Federal Government. Always having a passion for Mexican music, he started singing and playing the guitar, performing at restaurants and bars throughout Denver. When the Martinez family moved to Albuquerque, N.M. in 1961, Roberto started performing as a mariachi musician, forming the legendary group, Los Reyes de Albuquerque, in 1962. He performed with his group throughout New Mexico and the United States for almost fifty years. Through those years, Roberto received many awards and accolades. These include the 2003 National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship (awarded along with his son Lorenzo) for preserving and promoting New Mexican Hispanic Music and Culture, and recognition by the Smithsonian Institution as a Corridista, or composer of corridos, which are Mexican ballads. Roberto was also a civil rights advocate, leading many causes and struggles for all minorities who experienced discrimination and racism in the 60s and 70s. When he retired from civil service, Roberto devoted his energies to establishing the Los Reyes de Albuquerque Foundation for the promotion of New Mexican Hispanic Music and Culture. For over two decades, senior centers, public schools, and children's centers throughout New Mexico were exposed to music and history Roberto and his band of musicians brought to young and old alike. He was also a devout parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption in Albuquerque, where he lent his voice to the Spanish choir for decades. Roberto was the son of Maximiano Martinez and Rosa Lovato. He was preceded in death by his daughters Roberta Maxine and Debra Susan. Roberto is survived by his wife, Ramona Elena Salazar; their daughter Doris; their sons Lorenzo and Robert Jr.; and their grandchildren Bernadette, Darla, Manuel, Carlos, Sheila, and Larry; also, their great grandchildren Desiree, Antonio, Tino, Ramon, Carlos Jr., Damian, and Asia. A Rosary will be held at our Lady of the Assumption, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior. The funeral Mass will be at our Lady of the Assumption Wednesday, January 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the burial at Gate of Heaven. MNUK, ANITA MAE LAWSON whose unselfishness in successfully raising four children as a widowed single mother was equaled by her bravery resisting Alzheimer's disease over several years, died in Kenosha, Wisconsin on December 8, 2012, at the age of 80. Born May 3, 1932 to Ralph and Eva (Murphy) Lawson, she grew up on a small farm near Macedonia, Iowa, about 20 miles east of the Missouri River. After graduating from high school she attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she became a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. There, she met Frank Joseph Mnuk, Jr., whom she married at Macedonia in 1952. The couple resided in North Platte, Nebraska; Amarillo, Texas; and New Berlin, Wisconsin, and had four children: Dr. Joseph (Julie) Mnuk; Christine (Joseph) Golebiowski; Philip (Holly) Mnuk and Katherine (David Hoopman) Mnuk. When her husband, a regional sales executive for Allis Chalmers Corp., passed away in 1972 at the age of 40, Anita sought employment and became a secretary at W.A. Krueger Company in Brookfield, Wisconsin, where she worked until the early 1990's. In 1991 she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she helped care for her granddaughters Rebecca and Rachel Mnuk. In 2009 she returned to Wisconsin, residing in Madison. Anita Mnuk was preceded in death by her parents and by her sisters Dr. Ellen (Aaron) Stevens and Lois (William) Mayberry. She is survived by brother-in-law Dr. Aaron Stevens; sister-in-law Mae Maxwell; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews living across the country. Those who knew Anita appreciate and deeply respect the way she lived her long and challenging life: with quiet refinement, strength of character, unfailing grace in confronting adversity, and unconditional love and support for those around her. NOLAN, JOSEPH C. age 80, was born December 3, 1932 and passed away January 7, 2013. Mr. Nolan is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Carol; children, Mark J. Nolan and wife, Kathleen, Edna Nolan and partner, Lucretia Nolan, Patricia Rajala and husband, Bruce; grandchildren, Savanna Nolan, Matthew Nolan, Erin Davis, Bradley Rajala and wife, Nichole, John Hoffman and wife, Robin. Joseph was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy, and was attached as a Corpsman to the Marine Corp from 1951 until 1955, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a dedicated Teacher for thirty-three years; he volunteered for over five thousand hours with Presbyterian Hospital; was an Extra Ordinary Minister of Communion at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church; and was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Joseph showed his love and compassion in all that he did. We are blessed to have known and loved him, and he will be greatly missed. PORTER, WILLARD JACK 1922 - 2013 our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, gentle brother, uncle and loyal friend, passed from this life into the next phase of his eternal journey on Jan. 2, 2013. His beloved wife and eternal companion, Evelyn, as well as loving parents, siblings, grandparents and grandson, joyfully greeted him with open arms. Jack was born Feb. 2, 1922 in Ashton Idaho, the third of six children born to Melvin Homer Porter and Ada Carlson. He graduated from Weston High School in Idaho and attended Weber State College in Utah and the University of New Mexico. Jack served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He made lifelong friends as he served during the war in Australia, New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. In 1947, after the war, he moved from Utah to Albuquerque to help his father and brother in a newly acquired coin operated amusement vending machine venture. Music Service Co. was the result of their efforts and 65 years later, 'til the day Jack left this earth, he was involved in that business. Jack married the love of his life, Evelyn Arlene Holloway on July 11, 1953. They were later sealed in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. Jack was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved God with all his heart. His kind, generous spirit was a reflection of that love. Jack and Evelyn both held their private pilot license and one of their fondest memories was flying together in their Cessena 182. Jack loved to cook breakfast (he was a short order cook in San Francisco before the war) and we will miss his delicious morning meals, his kind generosity and how everything was "maavelous" in his eyes. Jack is survived by his three daughters, Kathy (Wayne) Buell of Heber City, Utah, Pat Nodal of Albuquerque, and Kimberlee Porter of Midvale, Utah. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother; two sister-in-laws; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service prior to burial will be held for Jack on Jan. 12, 2013, 1:00pm at the Heber City, Utah cemetery and afterwards a celebration of his life will be at the home of his daughter, Kathy, in Heber City, Utah.
