TAGGART -- TERRY LYNN Age 69, passed away at home Friday, December 2, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 8, 1942 in Enid, OK and was raised near Hennessey, OK on a wheat farm. He became interested in art as a boy and eventually graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1964 with a BFA in painting. He then attended the Ohio State University, where he was a teaching assistant, and from which he received his MFA in painting and lithography in 1967. He met his future wife, Diane Salazar at Ohio State and following his graduation, they moved to Guam where Terry taught in the Art Dept. at the University of Guam. In 1969 the couple moved to New York City where Terry pursued his dream of painting professionally. He was represented by a SoHo art gallery and one of his large canvases hung in the JAL terminal at JFK airport. The couple moved to Albuquerque in 1973, where Terry became interested in adobe home design construction. He studied under several local builders, most notably Nat Kaplan, and eventually formed Taggart Construction Co. in 1976. He designed and built over 400 custom adobe homes, as well as other projects around the state, including buildings at Isleta and Jemez pueblos. He was especially proud to be chosen to rebuild the two kivas at Cochiti Pueblo, as well as their community center. Terry continued painting throughout his entire life and was represented for a time at the Dartmouth Gallery. When he closed Taggart Construction in 1999, he went to work at Adobe Building Supply, becoming their top salesman and designer. He and Diane both retired in 2008 and they made three road trips that year before his health began to fail him. Terry loved his family, travel, talking about art, old movies, and life. In his last years he taught himself how to "paint" on the computer using the latest version of Photoshop. He completed three different art projects the week he died. Over the years he was a member of several Episcopal churches in the Albuquerque area, the last one being St. Francis, Rio Rancho, where he was proud to serve on the Building Committee during the time when the congregation built their new facility. After his hospitalization in 2008, Terry joined the Presbyterian Health Plex, where he regularly attended a chair exercise class for COPD and heart patients. Terry will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his generosity.
