GALLEGOS -- Elena (Lucero) Gallegos, age 93, beloved sister and aunt, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 15, 2004. Visitations will be on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at 10:00 a.m., also at the church. GALLEGOS -- Elena (Lucero) Gallegos, age 93, beloved sister and aunt, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 15, 2004. Elena was born in Corrales, NM to the late Jesus Maria Lucero and Dulecinea Sanchez; she was a resident of Bernalillo, NM. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She helped organize the Catholic Daughters Chapter of The Court of Immaculate Conception in Bernalillo, where she served as Grand Regent and Organist. She was a School Teacher for 40 years for the Sandoval County School Systems. Elena gave of her time and talent to the church as the organist since she was 13 years old, up until 1986, in Bernalillo and surrounding areas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Epimenio Gallegos; brothers, Jose, Eloy, and Robert; sisters, Sorida, and Clotilde. Elena is survived by her loving sisters, Erlinda Gutierrez and Sofia Lucero; and a niece, Aline, all of the family home; a sister-in-law, Margaret Lucero. Also surviving are several beloved nieces, nephews; grand-nieces and -nephews; and great-nieces and -nephews. Elena will be greatly missed by her loving family. Visitations will be Wednesday, August 18, 2004 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. OBERG -- Alice Louise Oberg, Lieutenant Colonel, USAR, 76, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2004. She was born in Springfield, MA and moved to New Mexico in 1947 where she lived until joining the Army in 1957. Alice was on active duty for 20 years with duty assignments within the U.S. and Korea. As a journalist she spent several years assigned to the Army News Service; her final assignment was Battalion Commander, Academy of Health Sciences, Health Service Command, Ft. Sam Houston, TX. Her military decorations and awards included the NDSM, AFEM, ARCOM (1st OLC), MSM, and AFRMXyrDev. Upon retirement Alice was a real estate broker in San Antonio, TX., for several years and traveled extensively. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Alfred Henry Oberg; and brother, Alfred Henry Oberg, Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Evelyn Jean Oberg of Albuquerque; 3 nephews, Mike Oberg and wife, Linda of Gallegos, NM, Patrick Oberg and wife, Kathy of Estancia, NM, and Gary Oberg Berkshire of Estancia; and numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and long time friend, Pat Pavlis. Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or Wide Horizons, Wheatfield, Co. MARTINEZ -- Merejildo (Eloy) Martinez Jr. passed away Monday, August 9, 2004, after a long illness. He is survived by his lifelong companion, Sophie Bazan; son, Claude Bazan; daughter, Mildred Martinez-Gallegos and husband, Trinidad; brother, Gilbert Martinez and wife, Alice; sister, Rosella Marcum and husband, Dale of Michigan. Eloy was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Bazan; daughter, Susan Mora; parents, Merejildo and Dolores Martinez. A rosary and mass were held. He will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, August 13, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. The family would like to thank Presbyterian Hospice for their support and help during these very difficult times. SANCHEZ -- Mr. Guadalupe ( Lupe ) Sanchez, 80, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 4, 2004. Mr. Sanchez is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mrs. Ologia Sanchez. He is also survived by one son, Harry Sanchez; grandchildren, Logie, Maria, Crissy, Cipy Jr., Vanessa, Juan Jr., Fernando, Augustine, Vienza, Matthew, Paul, Bernardo, and Mario; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cristobal Sanchez and Elias Sanchez; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Sanchez was preceded in death by his parents, Theodosio A.and Luz Sanchez; his children, Mary Jane Gallegos, Diana Gutierrez, and JR. Sanchez; two grandchildren, Martin and Rosalea. Mr. Sanchez was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War I I. A visitation for Mr. Sanchez will be Saturday afternoon, August 7, 2004 in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 4:00 p.m. by Gabriella Nieto. A final visitation will be Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father Christopher Hanson. Interment will follow at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery with Military Honors.
