Padilla -- Orlando Padilla, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away November 14, 2002. He was the second of five children born to Solomon and Ida S. Padilla on February 14, 1924. Waiting with open arms to greet him at heaven's gate, along with our Lord, will be his parents, Solomon and Ida; and his only son, Orlando Jr. Orlando was a retired home builder and built many homes in Albuquerque and Bernalillo. He served in the US Army and was a Veteran of WWII, having served in Africa and Italy. Orlando is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Apodaca Padilla; brothers, Leo and wife, Mary Padilla and family, Willie and wife, Terry Padilla and family all of Albuquerque, Solomon Padilla Jr. of Santa Fe; sister, Mary Lou Gomez and family; brother-in-law, Richard and wife, Lena Apodaca and family; sisters-in-law, Viola Jackson and husband, Scottie and family of Whittier, CA., Lucille Flores and Grace Andre and family of Albuquerque; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who will miss him greatly; special nephews, James Edwards and Leon Padilla; nieces, Cathy Roland and Arella Brenning. At the request of Orlando, cremation has taken place. Graveside Services will be held at Mt. Cruz -- Rosendo Cruz age 35, passed away October 19, 2002. A native of Albuquerque, he graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1985. He is survived by his children Rosendo IV and Monique, and their mother, Patsy Cruz; parents, Rosendo and Mary Ann Cruz; siblings, Marlene Duarte and husband Pedro, Zachary P. Cruz, Tanya Garlick and husband, Johnny; grandparents, Rosendo and Luisa Cruz, and Teodorita Garcia; eight nieces and nephews; other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. Services will be held at Praise and Worship Center, 3044 Isleta SW. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2002. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2002 with burial following at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Martinez -- In loving memory of Loina Martinez passed away October 4, 2002 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving children. She is survived by her daughter, Ramona Lopez and husband, Nemico Lopez, Son, Mike Roybal and wife, Mary, Son, Danny Roybal and wife, Catalina, Son, Tony Martinez of Houston, TX and wife, Ellie, Daughter, Loretta Gallegos and husband, Leonard,¯ Daughter, Gloria Flores of Sylmar CA, Son, David Martinez and Daughter, Natalie Sena and husband, Eddy, and also stepson, Rudy Martinez.¯ Preceeded in death is her husband, Natividad Martinez,¯ her father and mother, Juan and Amalia Garcia; her brothers, Candrilia Garcia and Albert Garcia. Also her grandson, Johnny Ray Lopez and her son-in-law, David Flores. She is survived by all her grandchildren and also her great-grandchildren. Sigala -- Patricia M. Sigala, 41, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family on October 1, 2002 and is in heaven with our Lord. Patricia is the beloved wife of 22 years to Alfred Sigala; Patricia is also survived by her daughters, Carolyn Marie Flores and Jake Flores, Janice Marie Sigala and Devine Barela; one son, Jonathan Sigala; her loving parents, Joe M. and Mary Baca; mother-in-law, Rosa Chavez; grandchildren, Christopher and Anthony Ray Flores and Deijah Brianna Marie Barela; two sisters, Nadine Felix and Fiance Chris Chavez, Annette Gallardo and husband, Manuel; four brothers, Albert Baca and Rosalie Gomez, Alfred Baca and wife, Karen, Andrew Baca and wife, Sara and Joseph Baca; her Godchildren, Gilbert Martinez, Jenique Baca Chavez and Kristen Baca; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Patricia was a member of the Catholic Church and will be missed by all who knew her. A visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Gabriella Nieto. A final visitation will be Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. by Father Manuel Viera. Ariaz -- Arturo F. Ariaz, 83, a lifelong Guadalupe County resident died Friday, August 2, 2002 at the Guadalupe County Hospital following an illness. Arturo was born June 30, 1919 in Puerto de Luna, NM to the home of Seferino Arias and the former Juanita Griego. He was reared and attended schools at Puerto de Luna and Santa Rosa. He attended Eastern New Mexico University for two years. Arturo was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. He married Guadalupe Garcia on January 25, 1946 in Puerto de Luna. Arturo served as Guadalupe County Assessor, worked for the NM State Highway Department/Santa Rosa District and was employed until his retirement by the NM Employment Service Commission. Arturo ranched and farmed at Puerto de Luna and spent many hours there in the evenings and following his retirement. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. He was a charter member of the Guadalupe County Soil Water Conservation District, was a past St. Rose of Lima school board member and a longtime member of the San Jose Society of St. Rose of Lima Parish, Arturo was a loving husband, father, and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Barbara Ariaz in 1978; four brothers, Margarito Arias, Erminio Arias, Richard Arias, and Marcos Arias. Survivors include his wife, Guadalupe Ariaz of the home in Santa Rosa; two daughters, Mary Ann Caldwell and husband, Wayne of Snyder, TX Magdalena Monserrat and husband, Javier of Puerto de Luna; three sons, Arthur Ariaz Jr. and wife, Christine of Santa Rosa, Andrew Ariaz and wife, Kristie of Albuquerque and Albert Ariaz and wife, Roberta of Puerto de Luna. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louisa Romero and husband, Alfonso of Amarillo, TX, Oralda Cross of Portage, Indiana; and a brother, Joe Arias and wife, Lou of Tucumcari, NM along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends and good neighbors. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2002 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the church at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2002 with Father Stephen Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Garcia, James Eddie Caldwell, Louis Flores, Mark Chavez, David Sanchez, and Art Ariaz III. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Ralph Arias, Albert Arias along with all his other nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation hours will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Gallegos -- Jose S. Gallegos died Sunday July 21, 2002 in Albuquerque at the age of 72. He is survived by his son, Raymond Romero; daughter-in-law, Rosalie Garcia. Three brothers, Vince, Jake and Andres Gallegos; two sisters, Mary Chavez, Esmeralda Perkowski; one sister-in-law, Louisa R. Jones; and one grandchild, Julie Romero. Funeral Service for Mr. Gallegos will be held on Friday at San Felipe Church where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Anthony is also survived by his brothers, Steven Sena and wife Carol, and Ken"Chunky" Sena and partner Sophia; sisters, Alice Wood Garman and husband Gary, Jeanette Sena, Sandra Sena and partner David, Deborah Sena and partner Leo, Bernadette Sena, Diane Sena and partner Gene; Aunts, Eleanor Chavez, Los Angeles, Calif., and Dorothy Flores, Simi Valley, Calif; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Santuario de San Martin Catholic Church, 8321 Camino San Martin SW. Barela Ortega -- Barela Amalia Barela Ortega died on Monday May 6, 2002 in Albuquerque at the age of 89 she is survived by her son, Anthony Ortega; and her daughters, Mary C. Gonzales and Viola Flores; and by ten granchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Her Funeral Service was on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Chuch. Flores -- Ruben Flores, age 84, lifetime resident of Las Cruces left his dwelling place on earth and entered eternal life to be with his heavenly Father, Saturday, April 13, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born August 23, 1917 to Julian Flores and Anita Mariana Flores. From 1939 to 1941, Ruben spent time as a US Merchant Marine on the U.S.S. American Seaman and the U.S.S. America. On April 3, 1941, he was inducted into the United States Army and assigned to Clark's Airfield in the Philippine Islands. During his service, Staff Sergeant Ruben Flores was a prisoner of war from April 9, 1942 to August 15, 1945. He was also a survivor of the Bataan Death March. He was honorably discharged from service on March 14, 1946, and was decorated with the Bronze Star for Service, Philippine Defense Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Philippine Independence Ribbon, American Defense Service Medal with Foreign Service Clasp, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Distinguished Unit Emblem with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation Badge and a World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Flores was very active in his community where he was a member of the Las Cruces Chapter of the Bataan Veterans Organization, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3242 and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 10. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the St. Genevieve's Catholic Church and a member of the Sunshine Boys Breakfast Club. Survivors include one son, Art Flores and wife, Lourdes of Loving, NM; three daughters, Carmelina and Freda Claudeen Flores both of Las Cruces, Sandra Christine Jacquez Flores of Albuquerque; three brothers, Robert F. Estrada and wife, Bertha and their daughter, Rachel, Florencio"Lencho" Montoya all of Las Cruces, Jose G. Flores and wife, Angelita of Dona Ana; four sisters, Celia Montes of Nampa, Idaho, Manuela Mestas of Sacramento, CA, Adelina Flores of Albuquerque and Josefina Montoya of Las Cruces. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Michelle Fyfe, Michael, Jasmine, Danielle and Amanda Flores, Annette Mendoza and Pamela Vasquez two great-granddaughters, Ruby Fyfe and Samantha Flores. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Manuela Flores; two brothers, Guadalupe Flores and Bessie Montoya. Visitation for Mr. Flores was held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled to begin 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in the same church with the Most Reverend Bishop Ricardo Ramirez, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho with military honors accorded. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Mike Ortega, Casimiro Gonzales, Jesus Hernandez, Jim Fyfe, Michael and Manny Flores. Honorary Bearers will be Ben Rios, Jack Aguirre, Ventura and Maria Inez Garcia, Ex-POW (Bataan) Survivors, Knights of Columbus, Las Cruces Chapter and Women's Auxiliary, VFW Post #3242 and Women's Auxiliary, DAV Chapter 10, Hector Apodaca, David Lujan, Eli Gipson, Jack Valencia Sr., Joe Jacquez and Blas Molina.
