RODRIGUEZ -- ALFONSO BARTHOLOME RODRIGUEZ (AL), born on August 24, 1922 and returned to the Lord on March 12, 2005, surrounded by his loving wife, daughters, sons, and grandchildren. Alfonso (Al) passed away after a six month battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents: Erineo and Ramoncita Rodriguez; brother, David; sisters: Melinda Bias, Maria (Demesia) and husband, Saturnino Hernandez, Genoveva and husband, Antoino Rodriguez. Al retired from AFL-CIO as an International Representative, where he tirelessly worked for the workers rights amongst the Carpenters, Lumber Mill, Ironworkers, Hospital and State workers across North America. During his final years he worked for the rights of Union Workers in South America and Puerto Rico. Al was loved and cherished by everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Alice G. Rodriguez; son, Charles (Chuck) Rodriguez and wife Charlene (Char), Chuck's son, Jared and soon to be wife Roseanne Ruiz and great-granddaughter, Sierra; daughter, Mary Ellen Flores and husband Martin and grandchildren Andrea and Martin Jr.; son, Dennis Rodriguez and grandsons; Brian and Christopher; daughter, Melinda Wedemeyer and husband Robert (Bob) and granddaughters, Cassandra (Cassie) and Annalise (Lise); daughter, Annette Brumley and husband Mark and grandson, Gabriel Alfonso Rodriguez. Alfonso's brother, Higinio and wife Elisa Rodriguez; his sisters: Maida Duran and husband Feliberto and Martha Jones. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends and loved ones in Las Vegas. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nelson's Funeral Home, 801 Douglas Ave, Las Vegas, NM. Another Rosary will be recited Wednesday, March 16, 2005, 7:00 p.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 17, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. SANCHEZ -- Panfilo (Pompi) 84, born 1920, went home to be with the Lord March 2, 2005. Panfilo was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque NM and a WWII veteran; he served in the South Pacific and in many islands with exotic names, such as Vela La Vela, New Caledonia, Guadacanel and many more. He was on the way to the invasion of Japan when the war ended; he was also a life long member of the DAV. Panfilo was a dedicated fire fighter for 25 years at Sandia, Kirkland A.F.B. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Carmen Sanchez; and by a younger brother, Albert Sanchez. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Ann Sanchez; sons, Raymond Sanchez and wife, Yvette and Victor Sanchez and wife, Christina; daughter, Carmen Schobey and husband, Glenn; granddaughters, Jennifer Sanchez and Jocelyn (Grasshopper) Schobey; brother, Julian Sanchez and wife, Agnes; sisters, Ida Rippberger and Viola Sanchez and husband, Frank; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was an avid outdoors man, hunter and fisherman. Pallbearers will be Mariano Flores, Peter Sanchez, Julian Paul Sanchez, Julian Sanchez, Tony Martinez, and Ray Gallegos. Honorary Pallbearers are Raymond Sanchez, Victor Sanchez, Carmen Schobey, Glenn Schobey, Jennifer Sanchez, Jocelyn Schobey, Frank Sanchez, Little John, and Donald Sanchez. A Rosary is to be recited on Sunday March 6, 2005 at Salazar & Sons Mortuary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Church at 10:30 a.m. on Monday March 7, 2005. RIVERA -- Alfonso Rivera, born in Santa Fe, NM, age 83, left us to join the angels and saints on Friday January 14, 2005 in San Antonio, TX. He passed away from complications following a fall. He will be buried at Fort Sam Houston on January 19, 2005 next to his beloved wife, Mayna. He was born October 11, 1921 in Santa Fe, NM and was the son of Emiterio Rivera and Antonia Garcia. He graduated in 1937 from St. Michael's High School in Santa Fe and attended Pasadena (CA) Junior College. During World War II, he was a Staff Sergeant in the 339th Army Air Force in Fowlmere, England where he served as crew chief of mechanics servicing American bombers and fighter aircraft. He married Mayna Lopez, also of Santa Fe, upon returning from World War II. The couple established the Corner Grocery, located at 880 East Palace Ave. The store was connected to the family home. He closed the store in 1965 and began a career in insurance. For several years he was a district manager in Albuquerque for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. In 1984 he returned to Santa Fe as an independent insurance agent operating out of his home at 105 W. Barcelona St. Alfonso and Mayna were married for 54 years, until her death from cancer in December 1999. Prior to the death of Mayna, the couple moved to San Antonio TX to live with their daughter Mary Ann. His 5 children are successful, happy and live in the loving spirit of their father and mother -- Dr. Charlene Rivera, husband Charles Stansfield, of Bethesda, MD; Mary Ann Mireles of San Antonio, TX; Dr. Michael Rivera, wife Vicky of Prince George, British Columbia; Philip Rivera, wife Rachael of Albuquerque, NM; and Chris Rivera, wife Sally of Maple Valley, WA. We will always be grateful for the spirit of independence he instilled in all of us and we will miss him dearly. He has nine grandchildren - Danny, Michael, Alegra, Jordan, Daria, Liam, Josh, Kaeli, Nicholas; and two great-grandchildren - Alanis and Ashley. Other living relatives include sister-in-law, Della Vigil of Santa Fe; niece, Tessie Flores of Montebello, CA; and many other nieces and nephews. Alfonso's two sisters, Nellie Saiz and Lucy Rushing preceded him in death. Alfonso was a phenomenal, intelligent, kind, loving, and very special father, husband, and friend. He deeply loved his family, enjoyed life and emitted happiness to all who knew him. He will be missed and never forgotten. SANCHEZ -- Mabel Sanchez, age 80, passed away Friday, January 14, 2005. She was a lifetime resident of Albuquerque. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Tony M. Sanchez, and she is survived by her children, Conrado Sanchez and wife, Agnes, Emiliano Sanchez and wife, Christine, Ruth M. Flores and husband, Ralph; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Victoria Martinez and Veronica Lucero; one brother, Bernadino Lucero. Services will be held at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 4th and Alameda NW, with a Rosary being recited on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 17, 2005 at 9:00am, with burial following at Mt. CRUZ -- Rosendo Z. Mr. Rosendo Z. Cruz, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on January 11, 2005. Mr. Cruz is the beloved husband to Mrs. Luisa V. Cruz, married for 65 years. Mr. Cruz is also survived by his children, Diana Benavidez and George, Rowena Albertorio and husband, Roberto, Rosendo R. Cruz and wife, Mary Ann, Joe Cruz and wife, Annette; two sisters, Eloisa Jaramillo and Fedelina Garcia; one brother, Roberto Cruz; 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; several sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Cruz was preceded in death by his mother, Margarita Cruz and a grandson, Rosendo the III. Mr. Cruz was a member of the Catholic Church, a Veteran of the United States Army/Air Force serving during World War II, and was a retired contractor and owner of Star Paving Company in the south valley for over 25 years. A visitation for Mr. Cruz will be Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Santuario de San Martin Catholic Church, 8301 Camino de San Martin SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. by Logie Turrietta. A final visitation will be Friday morning at San Martin Church from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. by Father Joel Garner. MARQUEZ -- Chris "Funky" Marquez, 25, of Santa Rosa, NM died Thursday, January 6, 2005 in a work- related accident on I-40 east of Tucumcari, NM. Chris was born May 4, 1979, the son of Louie and Susan (Paiz) Marquez. He was reared from age 6 in Puerto De Luna, and attended Santa Rosa Public Schools. Chris excelled in track and football and participated in the 1993 and 1996 football playoffs and was a member of the 1995 AA Santa Rosa Lions State Runner Up Football team. Chris was also an outstanding academic student and a member of the National Honor Society. Following graduation in 1997 he attended Luna Vocational Technical School where he received his Associate Degree in Horticulture. He worked for his grandfather, Mauricio Paiz, for a short time in Santa Rosa until he began his employment with San-Bar Construction Corp. in March 2000. He was part of a highway stripe painting crew and traveled throughout the state. Chris was a member of Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna. According to his parents, "he loved landscaping and working in the yard at his home. He was a great kid, very responsible and was always willing to help anyone." Chris was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Joe Montano. Survivors include his parents, Louie and Susan Marquez of the family home in Puerto de Luna, NM; two brothers, Ernesto "Neto" Marquez, and Jose Luis Marquez, both of the family home; one sister, Mary Frances Marquez of Santa Rosa; a niece, Anastacia Romero of Santa Rosa; paternal grandmother, Petra Montano of Santa Rosa; paternal grandmother, Mary Marquez of Santa Rosa; paternal grandfather, Benny Marquez of Greenfield, OH; maternal grandparents, Mauricio and Frances Paiz of Sierra Vista, AZ. Also surviving are numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins, including his Godparents, uncle John Montano, aunt Betteena Pizano, and uncle John Paiz. He is also survived by many other classmates, co-workers, and good friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2005 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa; Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2005 from Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna, NM with Father Bill Sanchez officiating. ARAGON -- Phillip James Aragon, age 49, passed away on December 9, 2004 in Albuquerque following an illness. Phillip was born May 1, 1955 in Cuervo, NM to the home of Nicolas and Beatrice Salas Aragon. He attended schools in Santa Rosa, graduating from Santa Rosa High School. He made his home in Los Lunas in 1978. Phillip was a member of the San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. He enjoyed welding, fishing, fixing and working on old cars, raising rabbits and loved being with his grandson. Phillip was employed with TDS Tire Company as a tire technician. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Pablo and Guadalupe Salas; paternal grandparents, Max and Miquela Rael; and his cousin, Max Rael. Survivors include his daughter, Candace Aragon; and his son, Ryan Aragon both of Los Chavez; grandchildren, Lorenzo Aragon, Camille Aragon and Dante Aragon, parents Nicolas and Beatrice Aragon; brothers, Henry Trujillo of Anton Chico, Nick Aragon and wife Priscilla and Ray Aragon all of Los Lunas; sisters, Angie Baca and husband Isidro of Amarillo, TX, Ruth Cline of Los Lunas, Lenora Flores of Mesa, AZ, Pauline Aragon of Los Lunas, Lucille Baca and husband Victor of Santa Rosa, Madlin Aragon of Los Lunas, Fay Aragon of Los Lunas and Mary Chavez and husband Arthur of Los Chavez along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. FLORES -- Richard. Mr. Richard Flores, 75, a resident of Albuquerque passed away at home in the loving arms of his family on August 20, 2004. Flores; four children, Irene Valdez and husband, Robert, Donna Gunderson and husband, Glen, Felipe Flores, and Oscar Flores and wife, Christine; eleven grandchildren, Sharon, Sheila, Rick, Adrian, Erika, Pablo, Dominic, Merlinda, Matthew, Gabriel and DeeAnna; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Flores was preceded in death by his son, Paul Flores. Mr. Flores was a member of the Catholic Church, and a Veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was the past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and an Usher at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
